Chapter 576: Chapter 577: Strive to Keep Some Supplies for the Winter Chapter 576: Chapter 577: Strive to Keep Some Supplies for the Winter Su Shu sent Zhan An off and returned to the black market.
Zhan An automatically took over, wrapped the coat around to save trouble.
After strolling around the black market, Su Shu managed to trade the remaining items and got some stuff from others. Then the two turned back home.
In total, it took just over half an hour.
Song Auntie was feeling unwell, resting in bed, but she fell asleep without realizing it. By the time she woke up, she heard the excited yelling of her daughter Zhan Yue coming from the living room.
It seemed quite excited.
She rubbed her stomach and walked out of her room.
In the living room, the whole family was gathered. The coffee table was laden with a bunch of things, either edible or usable, which left her stunned.
“You’re back so early? And you got so many things? What did you trade for them?”
Su Shu looked up, saw Song Auntie coming out, got up to make a cup of warm honey water in the kitchen, and handed it to her.
“Auntie, have some honey water to warm your stomach. It should help you feel better.”
Song Auntie lowered her head and exclaimed in surprise, “Where did you get honey?”
Where did they find such a precious thing?
Zhan An, sitting on the sofa, was about to speak but was preempted by his own daughter.
“Mom, my cousin-in-law and dad went to the black market to trade for them! Look, all of this!” Zhan Yue said excitedly.
Moved by Su Shu’s filial piety, Song Auntie held the warm honey water in her hands, feeling a comforting warmth in her heart.
After taking a small sip, she said, “Mmm, it’s really sweet.” Sweet all the way to her heart.
As she looked at the items they had brought back from the black market today, Song Auntie sat down next to her husband and also took a look.
“There’s really a lot here. What did you trade to get so much?”
When Zelin’s wife had come over, she had nearly emptied her bag of its contents. What else did they have that was so valuable?
Checking the items Su Shu had traded for–there was rice, flour, canned goods, honey, dried fish, and even a small bag of dried vegetables and black fungus. It was not much, but Song Auntie knew that dried goods, even if just a little was rehydrated each time and cooked with other ingredients, could make a full dish.
Fresh vegetables were now very expensive, hard to find even if one wanted to trade. Getting even a bit of dried vegetables was quite rare these days.
Life in the compound might not be starving, but the food quality was far below pre-Apocalypse standards.
What pleased Song Auntie the most was one of the canned goods they had traded for was actually a jar of fermented bean curd.
Zhan An said from the side, “Xiaosu had some painkillers, and she traded them.”
“Painkillers?” Song Auntie looked at her husband, then turned to Su Shu, “Those are quite valuable in the provincial city now, and not easy to trade for. Isn’t it a pity to trade them away?”
Su Shu, sitting on the side, said, “It’s not a pity to exchange for food. I’m leaving in a couple of days, and looking at what we have at home, it won’t be enough. Trading for a bit is something.”
She finished speaking and took out the remaining hundred painkillers from her fanny pack to give to Song Auntie.
“Auntie, here are the last few, along with two boxes of cold medicine. Keep them. Don’t trade them yet. Winter is coming, and people tend to get sick when it gets cold. If we can’t make it back soon, you can use them. If the price goes up by then, you can trade them.”
“But what about you guys?”
“Don’t worry, we still have some at home. When I’m back in C City, I’ll see if I can bring you guys something.”
Song Auntie hesitated, but Su Shu said, “Before I went to trade, I checked our medicine cabinet while looking for stomach medicine for you. It was almost empty, so you keep these for an emergency, and I’ll find some stomach medicine for you later.”
Originally, she had wanted to take the stomach medicine directly from the space, but on second thought, she decided against it.
Having everything would make people suspicious, and sometimes leaving some gaps was more convincing.
Hearing this, Song Auntie nodded and accepted the medicines.
Su Shu planned to leave for C City the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow, she intended to find an excuse to go out alone, which could allow her to “exchange” different things to bring back.
It would also be convenient for her to take out some more items from the space that were suitable for long-term storage to leave here.
Considering Tang Husheng’s occasional support for the officers and soldiers below, their family’s living situation was quite tight as well.
Leaving some provisions for winter would give her and Tang Zelin some peace of mind.
