Chapter 442 - Chapter 442 Chapter 441 Entrusting the Orphan Before Departure

Chapter 442: Chapter 441: Entrusting the Orphan Before Departure Chapter 442: Chapter 441: Entrusting the Orphan Before Departure The two alien humanoids that had wreaked havoc within the borders of C City were eliminated after they coordinated a successful operation.

The bodies of the sniped were processed overnight and then crated and sent to the central research facility.

In these experiments, akin to those conducted on lab rats, the soldiers had no room for discussion; their only responsibility was to capture.

However, it was precisely this difficult battle that caused significant psychological pressure on all the special combat soldiers who participated.

To think that just two required the mobilization of over a hundred well-trained combat personnel; if they were to encounter a swarm of alien humanoids, predicting victory or defeat would be difficult.

Within just one week, special combat teams from military regions across the country rushed to gather and, one after another, arrived in C City. After a brief two-day rest–during which they resupplied with equipment and necessary provisions–the main force continued to march north.

This trek northwards, the task was far more formidable than anyone had anticipated.

After all, there had never been an occasion where so many special combat units coordinated in a joint operation. This highlighted the urgency and danger at the Northern Border.

On the day of departure, Tang Zelin had a brief conversation with Wild Wolf Captain Yao Ke at the regimental headquarters.

“Stay safe.”

Yao Ke laughed, “Don’t worry, as long as I can stay alive. Do you really think I want to die?”

Tang Zelin nodded, understanding that such words were empty; on the battlefield, situations changed in the blink of an eye, and no one could predict which bullet might pierce their chest.

He asked Yao Ke, “Is there anything you need to entrust me with, anything I can help with?”

Yao Ke was about to say there wasn’t, but then he remembered something.

“Now that you mention it, there actually is something I’d like to ask of you. If I sacrifice myself at the Northern Border, and if it’s convenient for you, could you take a trip to the neighboring province to help me pick up my nephew from the Pengcheng Relief Station?”

“Your nephew’s in Pengcheng?”

“Yeah,” Yao Ke said, taking a drag on the cigarette that Tang Zelin passed him, his hands resting on the gun strap across his chest. “You know, my sister’s family used to live there; they lost their home in an earthquake a couple of months ago. I’ve been trying to bring her surviving son to live with me, and just when I had some leads, I got the call to head north.”

After a deep inhale, Yao Ke’s expression seemed somewhat heavy.

“I had planned on completing this mission and then going to fetch him; everything was already arranged. But you see, even dealing with just this recent threat was so dangerous. It’s untrue to say I’m not worried, but what can we do? We’re soldiers; if not us, then who? Right?” Yao Ke said with a faint smile.

Tang Zelin nodded; Yao Ke was indeed right.

“I’ve met your sister-in-law, and I think she’s a very reasonable person. Remember at the dinner table, how Xiaoxu ribbed her with every remark, and she didn’t even get upset. You, Old Tang, are quite lucky to have found such a wife. When I get back alive, you’ll definitely have to find one for me too!”

Yao Ke pulled out his military ID from the pocket on his chest and fetched a slip of paper from a compartment within it, placing it on the table.

“Here’s the address and my nephew’s name. If something does happen to me, please, I’m entrusting you with this. I’m not asking for much–just as long as he has some thin soup to live on.”

Tang Zelin raised his fist and thumped Yao Ke hard, “What are you saying? Rest assured, I’ll bring the child over as soon as we’re done here. Even if I, Tang Zelin, go hungry, there’s no way I’d let him suffer.”

Yao Ke’s eyes reddened slightly; seemingly not good at such emotional moments, he returned the gesture with a strong punch to Tang Zelin.

All their gratitude was understood in the unspoken accord.
