Chapter 317: Chapter 316: The Secret Beneath the Swarm of Snakes (11) Chapter 317: Chapter 316: The Secret Beneath the Swarm of Snakes (11) Over the course of a decade, the snakes that were once here had all but disappeared, leaving one trapped beneath the tomb, unable to leave this circle of woods. After so many years, boredom was driving it insane.
If not for the intervention of Su Shu and the Little Snake King, it didn’t know how much longer it would be trapped here. Now, a glimmer of hope was right before its eyes. Judging by the Little Snake King’s aura, it knew this master was top-notch. With a sudden stroke of genius, it concocted a plan to lure the snake out of its hole.
As for the matter of Hong Yue that the Little Snake King mentioned, Snow Fox pondered for a while before speaking, “I’m really not sure about that, but the eyes of the underground Little Red Snake also turned red last night.”
After giving the full account of past events, Snow Fox still wanted to nuzzle closer to Su Shu, feeling that if it snuggled up more, it might just get taken away with her and escape this damn place.
Su Shu frowned, “Keep your distance from me.”
Tears streamed down the face of Snow Fox…
“Take me with you, please. I eat very little, am useful, and won’t let you suffer any losses. How great is that!”
Su Shu had never seen anyone so eager to become someone’s “pet.” What about the dignity of a fox spirit? Shouldn’t it maintain an aloof and noble demeanor?
Snow Fox declared, “I’m the unprecedented and unique clown in the heavens and on earth.”
The Little Snake King flicked its tongue, unable to bear watching, and turned to slither away to the back of the tomb. After prowling around, it found a spot and pointed with the tip of its tail.
“Hey, hey, hey–what the hell are you doing?” The Fox rushed over to block its path.
“I’m going to dig it out and have a look.”
“Dig what out? It’s still a kid, isn’t it? Its body is weak. What if you harm it while digging?”
“What is there for a transformed spirit to fear from poking? Move aside.”
“It hasn’t transformed into a spirit yet. It’s already lost half its spiritual energy. If you do this, you’ll kill her. Get lost, get lost! Stop fumbling around and stay out of it – it’s a precious baby I’ve looked after for over a decade. Don’t you dare overdo it, or I’ll make sure we both go down together!” The Fox sat down stubbornly, refusing to budge.
Su Shu felt a headache coming on and stood up to walk over, then crouched down, her hand lightly touching the ground.
“Are you saying there’s another transformed Little Red Snake underground here? What does it look like?”
The Fox raised its paw and pointed at a certain cold-blooded creature opposite it.
“Pretty much like that one.”
The Little Snake King exclaimed, “Are you kidding me?!”
After a moment’s thought, Su Shu looked up, “Did you call us here to save you or to save it?”
The Fox blinked and with a sly grin said, “Master is really smart – save it! It’s on its last breath, and if we don’t save it now, it’s really going to die.”
Su Shu waved her hand and said coldly, “You, cunning fox, are too crafty and unpredictable. If it were truly dying, you wouldn’t have wasted so much time telling stories. Be sensible and tell the truth. We’ll see if we can help. If it’s possible, we might as well lend a hand. That way, our trip tonight wouldn’t have been in vain. If we can’t help, there’s nothing we can do. But if you continue to spout nonsense, I might just chop off that tail of yours.”
A kitchen knife suddenly appeared in Su Shu’s hand, indeed startling the Snow Fox quite a bit, prompting it to jump to the side, clutching its tail and shivering.
The Little Snake King smirked, “Blind to the true face of Mount Tai.”
The Fox spoke truthfully, “That Little Red Snake is too powerful. It’s like a huge suction cup, keeping me here to watch over it. It’s been asleep for over ten years, and I was thinking, now that you’re here, could you help me cut the ties between it and myself?” At the end of its plea, it fixated its gaze on the Little Snake King and added, “Of course, you mustn’t harm it. If… Master, you’re willing to take one more, I’m ready to work twice as hard! Anything goes! After all, since you are taking one snake, you might as well take two!”
