Chapter 315: Chapter 314: The Secret Beneath the Swarm of Snakes (9) Chapter 315: Chapter 314: The Secret Beneath the Swarm of Snakes (9) Tomb Owner replied, “Find a solution.”
The blind man calculated again and pointed him down a path, telling him to go straight, cross two streets, and find a vegetable market. If he encountered someone selling foxes, he should buy the white one with money. His issue would then be resolved.
Tomb Owner thought the blind man was talking nonsense and didn’t take it seriously. He rested enough and was about to leave when the blind man added behind him, “After it’s done, release the fox.”
He thought the blind man was being naggy. These days, the markets were full of chicken and duck sellers, not fox sellers, let alone white ones, so he ignored the advice and walked away.
However, maybe it was because of the extra comment by the blind man, or maybe he had no particular purpose, but he really did walk past two streets as the blind man had said.
There really was a vegetable market!
He walked around inside, not seeing anyone selling foxes. He thought to himself that the blind man had indeed tricked him, believing in such nonsense. Just as he turned to leave, he saw two or three burly men approaching with several cages.
It was exactly noon, hot enough to scare, and the market staff had hidden in the pavilion to nap. The small bosses in the market were intermittently fanning themselves to stay cool.
Seeing those men carrying stuff over, his attention shifted there. After watching for a while, amidst the mess of wild chickens, wild rabbits, and wild ducks, he spotted something white.
To say it was white was generous; it was so dirty with mud and looked like it had many dried blood stains on it.
The sellers saw him gazing for a long time and, seeing him staring at the white fox for an extended period, approached with a smile, “Buddy, do you like this one? Want one? Caught fresh from the mountains, wild, good size. I’ll throw in a small cage for you; keep it in the cage for a while at home, beat it a couple of times to curb its wildness, and it’ll be fine. If you like it, keep it as a pet; if not, skin it for crafts, its meat is delicious stewed, what do you say?”
At that moment, Tomb Owner was amazed at how precisely the blind man had calculated; there was indeed a white fox.
However, he didn’t hear what others said and had to ask a second time before asking the price. The other party quoted five thousand, Tomb Owner waved his hands to walk away, but the seller grasped him.
“Not buying seriously?”
“Watching it this long and not seriously considering? Five thousand for a damaged fox, not a good deal.”
“Fine, I’ll cut the price of one leg, four thousand!”
“One thousand.”
“Three thousand.”
“Two thousand.”
“Two thousand eight is the lowest I can go!”
“Two thousand five, agree, and I’ll take it now.”
“Pay up!” the other party stretched out his hand.
Tomb Owner counted out two thousand five hundred and gave it to the seller, grabbing the barely alive white fox and immediately taking a taxi home.
After he got in the car, one of the wild goods sellers approached the elder brother and asked in a low voice, “Brother, selling that thing won’t make it come back for revenge, right?”
The elder brother, happily counting the money, glared at him and scolded, “If it comes back, I’ll wring its neck! You think it’s become a spirit and can seek revenge? Get moving, sell the goods, the quicker they’re gone, the better!”
Meanwhile, after bringing Snow Fox home, Tomb Owner discovered the fox was unresponsive, as if dead. He thought perhaps it was just an object since it had been barely breathing when he bought it, and now it was dead?
However, he still remembered the words of the blind man, who had said that buying it would resolve his difficult issue. He waited until late at night to check, and finally found the fox awake.
He fed it food and drink; initially, the fox was cautious, but perhaps starvation got the better of it, and it began to eat. Just like that, Tomb Owner cared for it from summer through to New Year’s Eve in winter.
