Chapter 291 - Chapter 291 Chapter 290 Let Go of That Girl (17)

Chapter 291: Chapter 290: Let Go of That Girl (17) Chapter 291: Chapter 290: Let Go of That Girl (17) Su Shu listened to it, observed for a bit, and indeed, that seemed to be the case, but she wasn’t completely certain, so she grabbed a small handful of mushrooms and placed them in the chicken coop; the next second, the chickens that were originally strolling in this small area scurried off to somewhere else.

Su Shu then took back the handful of mushrooms to her side of the stone table and placed them on the table top, which elicited a scream from the Little Snake King.

“Oh my god, that stench, get it the hell away from me!”

Su Shu picked up one, putting it near her nose, but there was no smell? Except for the mushroom scent, what other smell was there?

But the Little Snake King’s fleeing posture didn’t seem fake, so before it could escape, Su Shu grabbed it, “You said these mushrooms have a smell? What smell?”

“Just take it away! Put it back!”

“Hold on.”

After swiftly returning the mushrooms, Su Shu came back to question further.

She genuinely couldn’t smell anything special about these mushrooms; they just smelled like typical mushrooms, didn’t they?

The Little Snake King glanced in disgust at Su Shu’s hand that had just touched the mushrooms and stealthily moved away.

“That thing, when you get close, smells so bad, no wonder so many of you died eating it; you really are gutsy.”

“You’re saying these mushrooms are actually poisonous?”

The Little Snake King said, “Just throw that stuff out, don’t eat it. If you end up with a bad stomach, don’t blame me for not warning you. Wanting to eat mushrooms isn’t hard, I saw you have some in storage in your barn, just eat those!”

“It’s not that I particularly want to eat them, I want to know what’s wrong with these mushrooms?”

“What else could it be, they’ve been contaminated.”

“Contaminated?! Contaminated by what?”

The Little Snake King shifted its position to avoid the knife with a menacing gaze nearby, “By the heavens, didn’t the sun disappear for a few days?”

“Yeah, and then?”

“During the time it disappeared, some things in the world mutated, don’t you understand?”

“Are you trying to get killed, can’t you speak properly?”

“Alright, alright, I won’t stoop to your level. Say, hasn’t your farmland been ruined?”

“At the moment, yes.”

She knew that everything would slowly improve in the future.

Upon hearing this, the Little Snake King looked up in surprise, a sharp gleam flickering in its serpentine eyes. Before long, it mumbled to itself, “Space is a freak, and the master is an oddball.”

“What did you say?”

“Nothing. Your farmlands are carefully tended and naturally delicate, so they’re the fastest to be destroyed, while things like wild mushrooms may have stronger resistance, but their strength only goes so far, not comparable to the trees and plants that have survived for many years in the mountains.”

“So what you’re saying is that the short-lived stuff is gone, and only the long-lived can hang on by a thread?”

So the meaning is to come back from the brink of death to rebuild, and if you’re at full health, keep being awesome, right?

“Not absolutely, but… it’s roughly correct. The mushrooms growing in the mountains might still be there for you to dig up; if you don’t believe me, go check the cities, in those corners where there’s soil, and see if they’re still growing.”

Su Shu rested her chin in her hand, staring at the bag of inedible mushrooms, her eyes narrowing as she seemed lost in thought.

“In the future, don’t get too many ideas about the stuff in the mountains. Some things might not kill you if you eat them in excess, but they’re not good for your health. Like some of the mushrooms here, one bite could kill not just you mortals, but even if I tried a little, I’d be paralyzed for half a day.” The Little Snake King looked at its increasingly erratic master, who was still decent enough to cook it a meal, and offered some well-meaning advice.

If she died, it wouldn’t have anything good to eat either. It was its own fault for agreeing to make a contract with her just for a few flattering words…

“Didn’t seem this serious in my previous life?” she suddenly muttered.

The Little Snake King didn’t catch it clearly, “What did you say?”

“Nothing.”

Su Shu’s expression grew slightly solemn as she looked up at the sky, which was growing increasingly somber; an unrepaired space was like this unpredictable Apocalypse.

The Little Snake King flicked its crimson tongue, initially wanting to mock her, but suddenly remembering something, it hastily raised its upper body and leaned in close to Su Shu’s face.

Su Shu was startled, “Coming at me so suddenly, you scared the life out of me.”

“I remembered something!”

Su Shu tilted her head back slightly, “What is it?”

The Little Snake King’s tone was somewhat grave, “I’ve been feeling unusually warm around here lately, something doesn’t feel right, it’s stuffy and gives me a headache. Go find out if there’s something particularly warm nearby.”
