Chapter 1297: Chapter 536: Impersonating Master Sido Again
"A super large base with a population of three to four hundred thousand?"
Having heard Liu Bo’s words, Wang Tao was very surprised.
Seeing this scale of population, it was clear that it was a place similar to Changhe Base.
Wang Tao knew there definitely were places in the world similar to, or even larger than, Changhe Base, but he didn’t expect to encounter one so soon, and so near—no, not exactly near.
Wang Tao quickly shook his head.
He felt it was near, only because he had flown here on the Golden Eagle. If one were driving or walking, those hundreds of kilometers would not be close at all, especially amidst the dangers of the apocalypse...
"It seems Mr. Wang really hasn’t heard of Silver Serpent Base. I can give you a brief explanation..."
Seeing Wang Tao’s surprise, Liu Bo volunteered to explain.
Through his explanation, Wang Tao learned that Silver Serpent Base was indeed very similar to Changhe Base, as it was also initially established by the military, considering that in the apocalyptic environment, only the surviving military had the strength and capability to execute.
However, unlike Changhe Base, after a series of developments and changes, the military lost control over the base. Now, the entire Silver Serpent Base was dominated by Ability Users and Awakeners.
Actually, this was a normal progression. The situation where the military still controlled Changhe Base was rather abnormal.
Because these zombies mutated too easily, the cost of using weapons of mass destruction was too great. And if those weapons were not used, the fighting strength of the military would eventually be transcended by Ability Users and Awakeners.
The reason why the military at Changhe Base still maintained a leadership position was not because of its own strength, but because of the presence of the Hope Research Institute.
Various products developed by the Hope Research Institute were given priority to the military, keeping its combat strength in a constant state of growth.
For example, the Powered Armor, wearing this thing could grant an ordinary soldier the strength of an Ability User or even an Awakener; then the Crystal Energy Gun, even an ordinary person could take down an Ability User with a single shot.
And Silver Serpent Base obviously didn’t have these things. So, it was normal for Ability Users to transcend them.
Of course, although the military was no longer the leader of Silver Serpent Base, it was not weak, so it had neither perished nor left the base. They remained at Silver Serpent Base, merely one of the many forces there.
Silver Serpent Base shared one similarity with Changhe Base: there were many forces within the base. However, the ones at Changhe Base operated under the leadership of the military, restrained by various rules and regulations, so there was order despite the multitude of forces.
But it was different at Silver Serpent Base, they were initially managed by the Military, so whether they liked it or not, they had to obey the military, thus the base was largely harmonious on the whole.
But once the military stopped managing the base, the other major forces all wanted to take over the management of the base. The problem was, their strength was quite evenly matched, no one was willing to concede to another, and they couldn’t reach a consensus... This led to quite a bit of chaos in Silver Serpent Base.
Before the heavy snowfall, they finally managed to maintain a precarious balance—they collectively established a "council." The council was the official force of the base, and everybody and every force had to follow the council’s lead. There were 49 council members in total, almost all selected by their respective major forces. This is tantamount to the major forces jointly controlling Silver Serpent Base.
But, such an alliance was obviously not truly cooperative, every major force had its own agenda.
Therefore, Silver Serpent Base was comparably chaotic, at least it remained so after Liu Bo lost contact with them.
Liu Bo was originally from Silver Serpent Base. Later on, Silver Serpent Base created an instrument capable of detecting Internal Impurities in the human body and performed a full check. Liu Bo, having a high level of Internal Impurity, was expelled.
However, Silver Serpent Base didn’t ruthlessly purge these people. Although they didn’t allow those with high Internal Impurities to live within the base, they could still do business with it, for instance, exchanging Crystal Cores for food, weapons, and such, and they could also stay in the base for a short period, albeit under continuous surveillance...
All in all, Silver Serpent Base was a place with both order and chaos. Although it didn’t sound as good as Changhe Base, it was still a super large Survivor Base, the most desirable destination for all Survivors here.
"That’s pretty much all I know about Silver Serpent Base for now..."
Liu Bo spoke at length in one breath.
He seldom met people who were unfamiliar with Silver Serpent Base. Even if they hadn’t visited it, they would have at least heard of it, right? Wang Tao was a rare case of someone who hadn’t even heard of Silver Serpent Base. Plus, given his outgoing nature and love for sharing, he explained in detail about Silver Serpent Base to Wang Tao.
"It sounds like Silver Serpent Base is quite a decent place."
Wang Tao nodded.
"That’s for sure! It’s just a shame they don’t want me..."
Liu Bo sighed, his expression becoming somewhat melancholic.
"Your strength as an Awakener, and Silver Serpent Base would still refuse you?"
Wang Tao asked curiously.
"When I was chased out, I was just an ordinary Ability User. As for now... maybe they would take me back, or maybe not. But regardless of whether they would or wouldn’t, I don’t want to go back. I have everyone’s company here, and that’s quite enough for me."
Liu Bo appeared as if he had seen through life’s fickle nature.
But suddenly, Wang Tao spoke up.
"It’s because of the Dusk Church, isn’t it?"
"!!!"
Liu Bo took a step back instinctively, looking at Wang Tao with a wary face. The others also immediately assumed a surrounding stance, subtly enclosing Wang Tao in the center.
