Chapter 1293: Chapter 534 Other Survivor Bases_2
Actually, City Hall did provide a lot of Crystal Cores, but a certain percentage of them were obtained by the Survivor Base themselves—during this unified operation, a portion of the spoils of war had to be turned over. So, this was also the result of their own efforts.
Once everyone was prepared, they started fusing one by one.
Moments later, some people excitedly fell asleep, while others hung their heads in disappointment.
"Not bad at all!"
Out of twenty people, thirteen had succeeded in Awakening. This had exceeded Wang Tao’s expectations by a large margin.
Both Wang Tao and Gu Yun were very satisfied.
"Those who failed to Awaken this time and those who weren’t chosen, don’t be disheartened; there will be another chance."
Wang Tao said to the students.
"Principal Wang, when will we go into the Rift next?"
At this point, a student raised their hand to ask.
"That naturally will be after you guys have rested well."
Wang Tao said with a smile.
"We are already rested!"
"Yes, we are rested, we can go out now!"
"..."
Seeing these students expressing their eagerness to go out, Wang Tao was momentarily speechless.
He wasn’t one of those unscrupulous capitalists who exploited others ruthlessly. People are not machines; if they don’t get proper rest continuously, things will definitely go wrong.
"I know everyone is determined to become stronger, but haste makes waste. You should put in effort when needed, but you must also rest. You are all the future of Changhe Base, and the base will need you to protect it in the future. Forcibly accelerating growth is not advisable; sustained development is the key..."
Wang Tao’s words momentarily stabilized everyone’s excited emotions; they all wanted to Awaken, but they were indeed tired. Going into the Rift in this state would undoubtedly lead to problems...
Seeing that the students no longer insisted on going out immediately, Wang Tao encouraged them with a few more words, and then turned to Gu Yun and Pan Jian:
"My task is complete; I’ll leave the rest to you."
Wang Tao had come this time to see what Awakening conditions these people lacked and then to supplement them. As for how to arrange things afterwards, that was up to Gu Yun and Pan Jian.
"Alright, then you go ahead."
Wang Tao left the Awakeners School amid farewell sounds from the students, riding on the Golden Eagle.
He had already rested at home for two days; today, he was prepared to check out the Rift at Mammoth Base.
Last time, killing Tian Hua of Destruction Level had drained Wang Tao a great deal, so for safety’s sake, he refrained from exploring. Now that he was recovered and the Gold Beetle was also fine, he could go and explore.
Tian Hua was able to find things like the Summoning Altar there; Wang Tao guessed there might still be other valuable things there. Besides, he also needed to gather some Crystal Cores to prepare for his Ascension to Level 6.
After picking up Jiang Shixue and Lightning at home, Wang Tao and his group once again flew towards Mammoth Base.
Arriving at Mammoth Base again, Wang Tao did not immediately enter the Rift but began to search the nearby area according to the coordinates given by Gu Yun.
Among the survivors at Mammoth Base, some had followed Tian Hua for a long time, having experienced the move from the original base to the Rift. Their original base was not too far from the Rift, and there were other Survivor Bases around their former base.
Since Wang Tao had come here again, he decided to check whether there were still any survivors in those bases.
Gu Yun had informed him that there were three Survivor Bases; Wang Tao checked them in order of distance.
The first base was located in a village.
Although it was a rural area, the original inhabitants were wealthy, so the village houses and roads were well-maintained, and there was even a protective river. Additionally, with the sparsity of the population and fewer zombies, this was clearly a good place for a base.
However, Wang Tao was immediately disappointed upon arrival.
The village was nearly buried under snow and wind. After the Golden Eagle blew some of the accumulated snow away, Wang Tao saw a large number of Frozen Zombies below.
The base had already fallen.
Still, to avoid missing any survivors, Wang Tao jumped down from the back of the Golden Eagle and carefully searched the area.
The village was small and quickly explored; there were no living humans, only zombies encased in ice.
These zombies hadn’t died, nor had they evolved into Frozen Zombies. They were merely frozen by the cold; if the temperature were to rise, they might revive.
To prevent future troubles, Wang Tao killed all these zombies. During this process, he also found some electronic devices like recorders and cellphones in the houses. Wang Tao used his Informational Wristwatch to reverse charge these devices, finding that a few still worked. After powering them on and hearing what was inside, Wang Tao roughly understood how this base had fallen.
Simply put, it was breached internally by the Zombie Virus—a common way for bases to fall in the Apocalypse.
No matter how good the base’s location, how strong its defensive power, or how capable its personnel, as soon as an infected person entered the base, its fall was only a matter of time.
Just like this village base, their location was indeed favorable, with few surrounding zombies, and they had stored quite a lot of supplies... In the Apocalypse, this was practically a paradise. But during one exploration trip, someone was unfortunately infected. Probably not wanting to be exiled, this person concealed their infection and returned, hoping for the best; no one else noticed. As a result, later that same night, in less than an hour, the entire base had essentially fallen.
