Nut, the fire rat, was perched on Rugas’s shoulder as he delivered the report.

The enemy had been only one step away from breaking Ferion’s seal.

And the one who thwarted that final step was none other than Kuroki.

As expected of Kuroki.

「I never imagined his power could rival even that Wicked Beast… He truly is dangerous…」

My wife, Mona, muttered with a frown.

「Yup? Do you know something, Your Highness?」

「I mean… I just know that Master Kuroki must have done something really amazing, Pu-chan.」

「Well… That’s just like Her Highness.」

Unlike my wife, my daughter, Polen, looked absolutely delighted.

She was practically bouncing with excitement as she chatted with her escort, General Puchina.

At her words, Botis bowed her head in shame.

The plan to revive the Wicked Beast, Ferion, had ended in failure.

Now, we would have to wait for several more years until his seal weakened again before we could try to free him.

「My deepest apologies. I never expected that the rumored Dark Knight would be there as well.」

Botis spoke through gritted teeth, frustration evident in her tone.

But it was too late for excuses.

We had heard the rumors. The Dark Knight—the very same one said to have defeated Alphos—had once again become our greatest obstacle.

Just as he had interfered with the resurrection of the Reaper, Zarxis, he had appeared without warning, crushing our plans before we even realized his presence.

「Rest assured, dear Mother. I will prove that I can defeat the Dark Knight without relying on something like the Wicked Beast.」

I swore this to my mother, aligning the Poisonous Spear, Pisar, before me in a solemn vow.

「Fufufu, that is reassuring to hear, Dahark.」

A smile played on my mother’s lips as she gazed at me.

「That Dark Knight is indeed a thorn in our side. Perhaps it’s time we take action against him.」

She let out a soft, amused laugh, raising the Chaos Grail in her hand.

The Chaos Grail—an artifact capable of summoning the Sea of Chaos.

One of the primordial forces that had given birth to this world.

A holy relic that could either create life or erase it entirely.

According to our Great Mother, Nargol the Great, the Chaos Grail held the power to regenerate the world.

And my mother intended to use it to fulfill her divine duty.

「There are reasons why I cannot act personally this time… but sooner or later, I shall deal with him myself.」

She spoke with a wistful look in her eyes.

Elios Heavenly Palace stood high above the clouds—a divine capital untouched by the mortal realm.

Majestic palaces lined the sky, each one serving as the residence of the gods.

The largest among those palaces was, naturally, the God King's Palace.

It stood at the very center of Elios, a beacon of divine authority.

「I see. So the Dark Knight managed to prevent Ferion's revival.」

In the innermost chamber of the God King's Palace, Odis spoke to me.

This was his private office, a place reserved for confidential meetings such as this one.

「Exactly, Odis. You owe him a debt of gratitude.」

「Yeah.」

Odis nodded in agreement.

Though most believed Modes to be an enemy of the Gods of Elios, that was, in truth, a grave misunderstanding.

Odis and some of the other gods never considered Modes their foe.

But they were the minority.

As the leader of Elios, Odis acted as a mediator, nothing more.

He could not dictate the will of the majority, but he could at least prevent conflicts from escalating.

And for now, that was enough.

「But do you think this is enough to make the Serpent Queen give up?」

Odis frowned, his gaze turning westward.

The true enemy was the Serpent Queen, Diadona.

And now that Zarxis had regained his power, we couldn't afford to let our guard down.

「Dunno. Those snakes are stubborn. I doubt a single failure will make them back off.」

I, too, turned my gaze westward.

They weren't done yet.

◆Goddess of Knowledge and Book; Totona

Elios' library.

I sat on a chair, flipping through the book in my hands.

Nelfriti was using my lap as her pillow.

She was the Gypseal Goddess of Cats, a divine being worshipped by the catfolk living at the foot of Mount Elios.

Every now and then, she would come here to play.

「Totonyan, it's a good thing Ferion's revival was prevented.」

Nel purred happily as she spoke.

She had received reports from her followers, and her father, Heibos, had also been present at the scene.

It was only natural that she had been worried.

「Yeah, as expected of Kuroki.」

I laughed along with Nel.

The news of Ferion’s failed resurrection had already spread across Elios, but no one mentioned Kuroki’s role in it.

Even so, the truth must have been an open secret.

The male gods of Elios simply chose to ignore it.

They weren’t interested in what the Demon King’s subordinates did.

Nel sprang up the moment she heard the voice.

I had a bad feeling about this.

Before long, she arrived at my side.

I pouted as I peeled myself away from this shameless goddess.

There was no way I’d let this walking disaster of a seductress anywhere near Kuroki.
