An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me -
Chapter 137: I’ll cut
Chapter 137: I’ll cut
"Lost in the battle, that’s how I felt, as every slash cut through the flesh of the demonized. I ignored the pain, ignored it so much it vanished.
I looked to my left, and there he was, my brother, beside me, fighting for who would be on top. The type of rivalry I never had growing up...
I was never lucky enough to play with someone, lucky enough to have a sibling that tried to do things better than me.
A colorless life, one painted by books and imaginations that were never truly mine, until now. Now this world is mine, now it’s something dear to me.
I didn’t know when it happened, but this reality became my reality. I stopped being a stranger in a body and rather I became the person that owned the body.
I might not have met many people yet, but there are those that left an impact on me—Dark, Lucas, my father, Mother, siblings, my grandfather.
They all gave me something no one else did: a family, love, advice, care. Something I was alienated from before.
Then I met the others—Robert, Mia, Liana, Sofia, and the rest of the entire class. At first, our meeting was filled with anger, with hatred, and though the time is short, I have come to realize that these things are what make life worth living.
They add the texture that we need, they add the colors that we see, they add the scent that we inhale. Everything, everyone, they have worked together without knowing, to give me a life of a different color from my past life.
And so I think, as the one who knows the end that waits for this world, do I want to wait and stand by until it all comes crumbling down, or will I stand for what I want to keep alive?
I’m no hero, I’m no savior, I’m only a kid who finally found something that he is going to hold onto no matter how hard the pull to take it away from me is."
Riven’s sword cut through the air, a path clean and precise, it cut through the head of a demonized, skull and all. He stepped back with one leg, pulled the hilt back and thrust it forward. The flame burned bright around the sword as it stabbed into the demonized, and inside its chest, he used Flame Blast.
Boom.
Its body exploded into bits, parts flying all around and a rain of blood coming down. Riven looked up at the blood pouring and for some reason, a smile crept up his lips. His head swung down and his eyes locked on the next demonized.
He ran toward it, feet hitting the ground in perfect rhythm, sword beside him. He was lost in a state that he had never been in before.
"All I have to do is cut, cut through them all. If I cut hard and fast enough, they’ll never get past me and touch the people I want to keep.
If I cut hard enough, I’ll protect them all. So cut, despite the pain, despite the heaviness—cut."
He slashed. The blade moved so fast the demonized couldn’t even react. The blade dug into its neck, blood poured from its neck, and it fell on the ground.
He pushed forward again, going faster than their senior who was with them. He extended his Spirit Zone to the max, the same max that had knocked him out before. This time, he didn’t go down.
Within his Spirit Zone, he could feel everything. He could see everything. He was the matter with it. "I’ll cut, I’ll cut, I’ll cut," he muttered. Twilight responded to him—the stars that lay across the blade lit up bright.
Click. Click.
The sound of something unlocking came from the sword.
[Second seal unlocked. You have gained access to the consciousness within.]
"You want to cut, right?" A calm voice ran through Riven’s mind—soothing, feminine, yet powerful. It wrapped itself around his consciousness.
Riven didn’t know why, but he felt compelled to respond to this voice, and so he did.
"Yes," he said.
"Why do you want to cut?" the voice asked.
"Because if I cut, Noel will be able to stay away from the end only I know of. If I cut, Vermilion wouldn’t fall in the future, and if Vermilion doesn’t fall, my family will remain safe." Riven said.
"Isn’t that selfish? Wanting to protect an entire kingdom by yourself. Do you feel you can cut the enemies of the kingdom?" the voice asked.
"Don’t get me wrong. I have no intentions to fight for this kingdom, but my family and people I care about stay here. And as long as they stay here, I want to protect them," Riven said.
"You speak as if a time is coming that will take them away from you," the voice said.
"There is something only I know, and I know those I care about will be caught in it. I have been lonely before, but now, I want to finally have a happy life with them all," he said.
"Why do you care so much when you only know them for a little while?" the voice asked.
"It’s because I’ve known them for a bit that I want to fight and learn more about them in the future."
"I see. Do you wish to cut for the sake of protecting what you are building, and not what you have built already?
Then, let’s cut—cut through the enemies that threaten what you are building."
As those words went through his mind, it felt as though a seal was lifted on his body. The sword burned brighter. He felt lighter. His body moved on its own.
Riven turned into a flash, moving so fast he left an afterimage. Blue flames erupted around his entire body. The demonized saw a flash of blue so bright it could blind.
Shing.
The sound of a sword cutting was all it heard before it died. Riven stopped and looked at the rest. "I’ll cut."
Noel stood watching his brother. He clenched his fist tight.
