Chapter 97: Chapter 91 You Don’t Need to Take Responsibility for This
Hearing that David was a graduate student in Electrical Engineering, Dean glanced at him with some surprise. "So your hobby is computer science?"
"You could say that, but my major was computer science when I was at Tulane University, and it was only last year that I came to Stanford to further study Electrical Engineering." David relaxed as the topic shifted to academics.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for Marcus dragging him out of his room, David would most likely still be holed up in his dorm reading books tonight.
"Wow~" Dean’s eyebrows lifted in astonishment, "A master’s student from Stanford, that’s impressive. Forgot to introduce myself, I’m Dean Price."
Another academically exceptional person, the kind with dual degrees. Even though Dean had just arrived at Stanford, the academic atmosphere had already made a deep impression on him.
"Right, David, your previous major was computer science. And the courses I’ll be majoring in at Stanford are in computer science as well, so..." Dean extended his right hand, "if you don’t mind me bothering you, I’d like to talk to you about this topic in the future."
For such a dry subject as computer science, why look for girls? Of course, it’s better for boys to get together and share common interests.
Hearing that Dean’s major was also computer science, David immediately shook his hand with a happy expression. "No problem, my dorm is on the third floor of the next unit, feel free to visit anytime."
Dean had initially chosen a dorm that housed students from all years, which not only included undergraduates but also graduate students and master’s students.
Of course, the building Dean was in was all undergraduates, but the dorm area was a community where the next building, connected to theirs, was specifically for graduate and master’s students.
Because they were close enough, visiting each other was only a matter of minutes. After chatting for a bit more with David, Dean wandered around the party with a glass in hand.
The students that came tonight included newcomers as well as upperclassmen who showed up uninvited, drawn by the buzz.
What annoyed Dean was that, during this afternoon while handing out social guides at the door, he had intentionally tried to direct the girls, but now the number of guys in the room hadn’t decreased at all.
Even Dean noticed after a quick head count that the loudest cheering in the dance area was coming from the guys.
Dammit, organizing a party didn’t actually require personally inviting guys because even if you didn’t, these animals would still show up on time at night.
However, Dean was more than happy to accommodate the upperclassmen girls. Look, the ones with the most fiery moves in the center of the dance floor were just that.
Tiny hot pants, tank tops with peek-a-boo effects, bodies twisting like snakes. As the stage lights flashed, the surrounding crowd all raised their glasses and cheered in unison for them.
With their lead, the newly arrived girls were also slowly loosening up.
"Hey, Dean, you’re here~"
Just as Dean watched all this with a smile and a glass in hand, Elisa and Kelly, whom he had met in the afternoon, squeezed through the crowd and sat down beside him.
"Hello, ladies," Dean typically raised his glass for a toast with them, "Having fun?"
Elisa and Kelly exchanged glances, and then burst into laughter together. "It’s fantastic, we’re really enjoying it!"
"That’s good to hear, looks like I don’t have to worry about being accused of false advertising." Dean winked at them. The social guide was completely something he’d cooked up himself.
"They said you organized this party, Dean. You’re very talented." Elisa didn’t care about the guidance the upperclassmen were meant to provide, according to what Dean had said in the afternoon.
The party was the highlight. Tonight’s gathering fulfilled all their fantasies about college life.
Of course, it would be even more perfect if they could spend a wonderful evening with a handsome senior.
"Dean, about the social guidance after enrollment, maybe you could teach us personally?" A bold Kelly ran her finger subtly across Dean’s leg.
The summers in California are hot, and Dean was just wearing shorts. Now he felt even hotter, perhaps because of the alcohol, or maybe the girls’ enthusiasm was too much.
"OK~" Dean shifted slightly, as his shorts felt a bit tight. "If you’re willing to listen, I wouldn’t mind sharing some of my experiences."
"Of course," Kelly and Elisa exchanged glances and stood up, pulling him along with them. "But before that, let’s go dance."
"By the way, Dean, is the ale here free-flow?"
"I think so, Marcus will take care of everything." Dean had just seen him slip out of a room.
...
In the morning, Dean woke up with a splitting headache and as he struggled to sit up, he realized there was still someone lying on his thigh.
Squinting against the sunlight, Dean took a closer look. Blond hair, fair skin, okay those features were too generic, he couldn’t tell one from another.
The dorm was empty except for the two of them, Marcus from across seemed to have disappeared for the entire night.
"Hey, wake up," Dean pushed the person lying on his leg.
"Hmm~ Dean, you were amazing last night," came a fragmented voice from beside him.
"Thanks, Elisa, you were charming too," Dean casually grabbed a T-shirt and pulled it over his head.
"I’m Kelly," suddenly, a hand shot out from under the bed to rest on the edge.
"WTF?!" Dean was startled by the unexpected appearance of a palm and quickly peered over the edge of the bed to look down.
Alright, there was another one on the floor, also not wearing any clothes.
Looking at the person on the bed and then at the person on the ground, Dean’s gaze gradually became baffled. "What happened?"
"Dean, are you awake?" Elisa, roused by his movement, opened her eyes as well.
"Uh..." Dean frowned, uncertain of how to explain, "Ladies, perhaps there was some misunderstanding last night. I’m not sure what happened because I have no memory of it right now."
"Hey~ relax, Dean. We don’t mind those things, and besides, I really enjoyed your service last night." Kelly, picking up her clothes from the floor, stole a glance at Dean’s lower half as she spoke.
If the timing wasn’t off, she really wanted another round.
"Kelly~ you said you wouldn’t follow us." Elisa, realizing she didn’t get to monopolize, complained discontentedly.
"Come on, Elisa. With such a hunk, who could pass up the opportunity?" Kelly tossed an extra tank top onto the bed, which the former quickly caught and slipped on.
"You should have at least told me in advance. I was fantasizing about taking things further with Dean."
"Stop complaining, Elisa, we have a lot to do today. Of course, if you don’t mind, I can join in any time in the future."
"No way, Kelly. The image of you two riding is all in my head now, making me look like the third wheel. Let’s just consider last night a delightful misunderstanding, it’s better for everyone."
Kelly and Elisa kept bickering while they dressed, completely ignoring Dean, who stood by with a dumbfounded expression.
He had a hunch that he wasn’t the one who had gotten the better deal last night.
"By the way, Dean, last night’s party was the perfect end to my first day of school. You needn’t feel guilty or responsible." Elisa, already at the door, ran back and kissed Dean on the cheek.
Watching the two leave and seeing his dorm room empty once again, Dean still hadn’t snapped back to reality.
He thought he was quite open-minded, but that experience had just shown him that maybe he was still too conservative.
Are these really freshmen? What on earth did they go through in high school?
Rubbing his forehead, Dean got dressed and decided to find something to eat first. The physical activity from last night was excessive; he could distinctly feel a soreness in his lower back as he got up.
"Hey, BOSS, how many trips to heaven did you take last night? I saw two girls following you into the dorm at the party.
To give you a memorable first night at Stanford, I made sure to leave the dorm room empty for you."
Just as Dean was ready to head out after getting washed up, Marcus, who seemed to have wandered around the whole night, had returned to the dorm with a contented expression.
"Marcus, your expression tells me that you also had a good haul last night, am I right?"
"Yeah~!" Marcus, eager to brag and hearing the prompt, instantly responded with an excited fist pump. "Dean, the party last night was so fucking cool.
You have no idea how gullible those freshmen are. I just needed two drinks and a sorority girl’s recommendation, and I snagged an Italian chick.
Oh~ I’m still longing for that soft body. How about we throw another party like that, Dean?"
"If you’re in charge of inviting the girls, I have no objections." Being objectified like that wasn’t something Dean wanted to experience a second time.
"Come on, Dean, are you really going to stand by indifferently and watch those innocent girls?"
Innocent? Dean thought of Elisa and Kelly from earlier, and it wasn’t really clear who was taking advantage of whom.
"Marcus, let’s talk about the party later, but first, you need to tell me how to choose classes.
You know I just transferred here and haven’t completed all of my general education credits. Also, where’s the flea market? I need to buy some secondhand textbooks."
"Alright, in consideration of last night’s party, I’ll tell you some real insider tips for getting started." As someone who had been around the block, Marcus knew how to avoid useless courses and which reference books were actually helpful.
At a university in America, the most expensive cost is tuition, but textbooks come in second.
New, popular textbooks for specialized courses cost at least a hundred dollars each. After choosing a few courses for a semester, it’s not hard to spend over a thousand dollars on books alone.
Although Dean wasn’t hurting for money, why not go for the cheaper option if available?
He also needed to figure out a way to transfer the credits he had earned at Cleveland State University.
In America’s four-year undergraduate programs, the first two years are mostly general education. It’s not until the third and fourth years that students choose an in-depth area of study based on their interests.
Since it’s all general education, many of the credits Dean acquired at his previous school could be transferred to Stanford.
Of course, there is a limit, but with these credits, Dean could catch up to the sophomore class at Stanford with some extra effort.
Being a transfer student has its disadvantages, especially when it comes to credits. Dean decided to put his academic genius to work and aimed to get his degree in two to three years.
