Chapter 289: Chapter 279 Are you kidding me?!

"Jenny, I might have to make a trip to the East Coast?" In the San Francisco mansion, Dean was packing his things again.

"Didn’t you just come back from there not long ago?" Jennifer Connelly lay on the sofa, glancing occasionally at the busy figure.

"Something unexpected happened." Dean, with a messy head, simply gave up struggling with the suitcase at his feet.

"Fanny! Fanny!..." He shouted towards the door, hands on his hips.

"Mr. Price?" The housekeeper Fanny hurried into the living room.

Dean pointed at the luggage at his feet, "Take care of them, I have a one o’clock flight."

After leaving these tedious matters to the housekeeper, Dean threw himself into the sofa, his mind in turmoil.

"Is it that bitch?" Jennifer Connelly’s expression darkened; she was aware of the other woman’s existence.

Dean always had a place to stay when he visited the East Coast.

His hurried appearance now left Jennifer feeling bitter, especially since Dean had just had an affair recently.

"It’s not what you think, Jenny," Dean said, massaging his forehead in irritation, "Some business stuff."

"Can it wait for two days? I’m not feeling well; come to the hospital with me first."

Jennifer Connelly hugged her arms, her gaze sweeping over Dean continuously.

"Jenny~" Dean looked over helplessly, "It’s something urgent, I’ll have Anna accompany you."

Snap, a cushion got thrown his way.

Dean caught it and when he looked back, Jennifer had already stormed upstairs.

Well, it was normal for girls to throw a fit, especially since he was at fault to begin with.

"Mr. Price," it was only then the housekeeper Fanny, whispered that the luggage was ready.

"Fanny, take good care of Jenny, and call me if there’s anything," he said.

"I will, Mr. Price."

Dean picked up the suitcase and handed it to Caitlin outside the door, then headed straight for the Cadillac at the edge of the lawn.

Events always took you by surprise, jumping out when you least expected them and catching you off guard.

...

"Oh~ Miranda." As soon as he entered, Dean approached her with care, "You should take it easy."

"Dean~" Miranda, sitting on the sofa, looked somewhat uneasy.

But there seemed to be a hint of anticipation in her eyes, "It’s so unexpected; we were so careful."

"Dear, you don’t need to worry, what did the doctor say?" Dean, though a cad, never had the heart to blame a girl.

"It’s almost two months now, and Miranda’s reaction is strong," Mather said from the corner, eying the man who had meddled with his daughter with a hostile gaze.

Hearing the voice, Dean turned around, only then noticing the two other people sitting in the living room.

"Mr. Mather, Mrs. Mather, welcome," said Dean, shamelessly ignoring the former’s glower.

"Dean, let me remind you. We are an Irish family; Miranda will have the baby," Mr. Mather declared.

"Dad~!" Miranda complained, then looked anxiously at Dean.

The Mather family was a traditional Irish Catholic household, abortion was heresy.

So, although Mr. Mather was displeased by Dean’s philandering, he would still insist on Miranda having the baby.

This wasn’t about affection; it was about faith.

Of course, if the young man was sensible and willing to give Miranda a happy family, Mr. Mather wouldn’t mind forgiving Dean for his past indiscretions.

"Of course, the child must be born," Dean nodded in agreement, never considering any other option.

Mr. and Mrs. Mather showed satisfaction, with Miranda’s face emitting happiness.

"But I haven’t..."

"Boy, come outside with me!" Mr. Mather cut off Dean mid-sentence.

He got up with a stern face and walked towards the door; Dean glanced at Miranda and followed him.

Watching their figures leave one after the other, Miranda looked worried, while Mrs. Mather comforted her, patting her hand.

Outside, Mr. Mather was glaring at Dean fiercely.

"Boy, you think you can hit and run like those n*****s?

I tell you, no way!

If you want to be mired in lawsuits, or destroyed when the media exposes your infidelity!

Even constantly under the watch of the SEC, then just you try!"

"Hey, Mr. Mather, please cool down first," Dean, feeling a headache coming, tried to calm him.

"I’m not planning on abandoning the baby or hitting and running, I just don’t want to marry so early."

"Is there a difference?!" Mr. Mather shouted angrily.

Dean gestured with his hands, "Miranda and I will raise the child, and I’ll cover all expenses."

"Listen, boy!" Mr. Mather pointed at him, "The Mather family doesn’t lack money, I won’t allow you to hurt Miranda!

If you still consider yourself an Irishman, you shouldn’t betray your own family!"

"Mr. Mather..."

Beep beep beep, the ring of the phone in his pocket interrupted the tension.

"I need to take this call." Dean shrugged and then pulled out his phone.

"Anna? Yes, it’s me."

"Boss, you hit the jackpot!" Anna’s voice sounded somewhat schadenfreude.

"Crap! You already know?" Dean sighed; things were more complicated than he thought.

"Yep, I’m at the hospital right now." Anna glanced towards the door, where the silhouettes were still undergoing checks.

"Wait! The hospital?!" Dean’s brain exploded, "Who are you with right now?"

Anna shrugged, "Of course, it’s Jenny. You’re the one who asked her to come find me."

"Oh~! Oh~!" Dean stammered, unsure of what to say, "So the jackpot you mentioned means...?"

"You might be a father soon, how about that? Is it as thrilling as Byte Company going public?"

"What the f*ck?!" Dean clutched his chest and fell silent for a long time.

"You’re even more excited than I thought~" Anna couldn’t help but laugh, she’d never seen Dean so shocked before.

"I...I..." Dean turned around to find Mather still standing there with his arms crossed, waiting for him.

Those scrutinizing, guarded eyes seemed ready to drag back a fleeing Dean at any moment.

"Anna, calm Jenny down first. I’ll discuss it when I get back." Dean hung up the phone with a snap.

God, is this really not a joke?!

How could it be such a coincidence? Skeptically, Dean started to count the days on his fingers.

Until those poor fingers turned purple from pinching, he reluctantly stopped.

Shit! It seems to match up!

"I say, lad, how long are you planning to drag this out? Playing dumb won’t work."

Mather, who was already impatient, was starting to suspect that the kid might try to deny everything.

"Alright, Mr. Mather, there’s been a change in the situation," Dean said calmly, walking up to him.

"What?" Mather looked over, puzzled.

"I love Miranda dearly, but I can’t marry her right now because another girl is also pregnant."

Dean, who had faced consecutive bombshells, decided to lay it all out, his mind buzzing.

After hearing Dean’s explanation, Mather was first stunned, then flew into a rage.

"Are you kidding me?!" He grabbed Dean’s collar, "Do I look like a fool to you?!"

"That’s the fact," Dean spread his hands, "I just found out about it.

I know it’s hard to believe, even I can’t believe it, but damn it, it’s happened!"

Mather stared into Dean’s eyes, as if trying to see through any lies.

"I don’t care what the fact is, but you cannot hurt Miranda!

If that girl is really pregnant, then have her get rid of it!"

"That’s impossible," Dean explained helplessly, "she was born in a Jewish family."

Well, that stopped Mather dead in his tracks.

One was from an Irish Catholic family, the other from a Jewish family.

Thought their religions might differ, they were strangely unanimous in their prohibition of abortion.

If the other party was indeed from a Jewish family, it meant this child would definitely be born.

Getting two girls pregnant at the same time? Mather really felt like punching him hard in the face right then.

"Is it that Hollywood girl?" Mather guessed who it might be.

Dean didn’t deny it, there was no need to hide it anymore.

"Shit!" Mather let go of his collar and yanked open his suit jacket.

He was very irritable, this was new territory for him.

"Mr. Mather, the most important thing now is to soothe Miranda. This matter..."

"Don’t mention anything about that girl in front of her," Mather warned.

"OK~" Dean shrugged.

Five minutes later, the two men, having reached a silent agreement, finally made their way back inside slowly.

"Darling?" Miranda’s gaze followed Dean’s figure closely.

"Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?" Dean asked carefully as he sat down beside her.

"It’s less than two months along, you can’t tell yet," Miranda laughed at Dean’s silly question.

"Maybe we should think of a name for the baby," Dean racked his brains, eager to give the child the surname Price.

Mrs. Mather watched all this with a smile, reminded of her younger self.

"You seem preoccupied?" She perceptively noticed her husband’s distraction.

"Oh no, I’m just too happy," Mather gazed at the two figures on the opposite sofa, his thoughts unknown.

...

The fact that Miranda and Jennifer Connelly were pregnant one after the other caught Dean off guard.

He usually took precautions when with them,

but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, he would go without protection.

After a few such instances without any consequences, he didn’t take it too seriously.

And then he was presented with two massive surprises, as if by mutual agreement.

Alright, whatever has happened has happened, and it needs to be resolved.

The children in Miranda’s and Jennifer’s wombs, Dean naturally wanted both.

As a soul from the East, he didn’t entertain the irresponsible idea of abandoning his children.

Of course, everything would have to be confirmed before further discussion. He needed to contact his lawyers, advisors, accountants, and so on—all of his team.

But everything was proceeding quietly, and for the moment, Dean decided to stay in Washington.

He couldn’t stay long, though, because he had another big and small one waiting for him on the West Coast.
