Chapter 71 - 71 71 The Congenital Begging Holy Body
71: Chapter 71: The Congenital Begging Holy Body 71: Chapter 71: The Congenital Begging Holy Body David didn’t make the two wait too long, driving the garbage truck to the roadside.
Allen Zhang walked out with Gate, originally intending to help, but David was very proficient, and without much effort from them, he alone loaded all the cans from the bags into the garbage truck.
David got back into the truck and started it, with Gate sitting in the passenger seat.
Allen Zhang chose not to go with them; he took the bicycle off the truck and instructed them, “Drive and find Leo and Monica, then clean up the cans on the pawnshop street.
I’ll go check the street by Sunkist Bar, and if there are other homeless people around, I’ll have a talk with them.”
“Ok, it’s all yours, boss.” David and Gate of course understood what Allen Zhang meant by “having a talk” — it wouldn’t just involve talking.
Ultimately, it all depended on what those homeless people thought; if they had a tough attitude, Allen Zhang didn’t mind being even tougher.
The three men parted ways.
Allen Zhang put on his hoodie, raced through the light rain, and reached the street where Sunkist Bar was located, passing by the front of the bar without any intention to stop for a drink with Mary.
He directly went to where the homeless man Black had been shot, and that familiar alley.
Even the damp rain couldn’t wash away the mottled red on the ground.
He pulled out his phone and looked at the street name, Yaral Street, which could be abbreviated to Y1, Y2 Street, adding up to three and a half streets including Sunkist Bar.
Allen Zhang simply rode around the street on his bike and realized that there were almost no homeless people loitering here, possibly frightened by the gang’s Black, or because of a shooting incident nearby, no one dared to linger around.
The rainy streets were devoid of pedestrians.
Only under the shade of a tree at the corner, he saw a homeless man leaning on crutches, carrying a black garbage bag larger than himself, rummaging through a garbage bin.
“Hey.
Do you need help, sir?” Allen Zhang immediately braked and parked on the side of the road, greeting him.
The shabby-looking homeless man, startled, looked up, his bearded lips smeared with traces of food.
Allen Zhang noticed the half-pack of waffles in his hand, clearly retrieved from the trash.
Parking his bicycle on the roadside, he walked over, “Didn’t you receive the aid meal?
What happened to your leg?”
“I’ll leave right away, please don’t hurt me!
I follow the rules.” The homeless man, mistaking Allen Zhang for the person in charge of this street, immediately leaned on his crutches and limped away with his black garbage bag.
“You’ve got it wrong; I’m not the manager of this street, although I indeed have such thoughts, but currently, I don’t have enough manpower.”
Allen Zhang gestured that he had no intention of harming him and also revealed his identity, “I am Hanberger Juan Jin, have you heard of me?
I live near the bridge tunnel at number 19 on Fifth Street.”
“You are Juan Jin from Lori Louis 19?
I’ve heard of you!” The homeless man was a little surprised.
Allen Zhang felt pleased with his current reputation.
To think that a random homeless man on the street had actually heard of him?
But soon, the homeless man appeared not wanting to cause trouble and turned to leave with his crutches, “My God!
Please let me go!
I haven’t done anything to offend you!”
If it weren’t for his poor mobility, he would prefer to directly pick himself up and roll away.
“…”
Alright, it seems his infamy was a bit excessive!
Allen Zhang turned, mounted his bicycle, and caught up easily, as two wheels were faster than one leg, “Buddy, what’s your name, do you have a place to stay now?”
The homeless man trudged on and glanced back at the relaxed and comfortable Allen Zhang, despairingly said, “Please stop talking to me!
I just came here to find some food!
I only have 2 US Dollars!
Take it all!
Please!
Leave me alone!”
It appears this guy has been frequently bullied.
Allen Zhang realized that normal methods probably wouldn’t work for a proper conversation with him, and immediately said, “I don’t want your money, on the contrary, I’m sent by God to save you!!
Do you believe in the existence of God?”
The vagrant looked at him suspiciously.
“If you sincerely ask around the streets, you will understand that I’m not someone who likes to bully others.
I like helping others!
Many have improved their lives with my help.
If you also want a better life, you just need to come to me!”
Allen Zhang realized that his reputation was being misled, and has to correct this perception.
“Can you give me money?” The vagrant asked.
“I can give you a job to earn money.
If you just want to get something for nothing, then indeed it’s difficult for me to help you.
But if you want to fight and strive through your own efforts, I guarantee you will live better than you do now!”
Perhaps moved by Allen Zhang’s confident words, the vagrant’s emotions settled and he stopped moving.
“Ok, seems like we can talk normally now, buddy, same question as before, what’s your name?
How did you end up like this?” Allen Zhang asked.
“My name’s Eddie.” The vagrant said helplessly: “The reason I ended up homeless on the streets is because this is God’s punishment to me!”
“God would never punish someone for no reason,” said Allen Zhang.
“You are right, I used to be a priest in a church, had a beautiful family, but because I drank alcohol while driving, I unfortunately got into an accident, lost my family, my job, and even a leg.”
Eddie said, “I became homeless, couldn’t find any job, wandered the streets for over a year; I couldn’t eat or sleep well every day and suffered from discrimination.
All this was my own doing.”
“Alright, Eddie, I just saw you rummaging through a trash can?
You don’t seem to be doing well.
If you want to pick yourself up, maybe you could consider following me.
My people will be coming to collect cans on this street soon.
If you know other vagrants, you can also let them know, I don’t mind people coming here to make money, but they at least have to follow the rules.”
Allen Zhang immediately began recruiting him to join the Beggar Gang, explaining the Beggar Gang’s operational strategies.
Eddie was instantly tempted, couldn’t believe there were still such good people around?
“But I’m just a cripple.”
“So what if you are?
We have a cripple in our camp, who was once a star football player.”
Allen Zhang said without hesitation, “The famous Limp Gang in Los Angeles is called so because many of its senior members were crippled by others.
Don’t be disheartened, no one will discriminate against you for this, at least our team won’t.”
“I really appreciate you giving me this opportunity!” Eddie was deeply moved, “I actually know a few friends who are physically disabled like me; we were planning to move to a camp built for disabled people, where it’s said there are only disabled people and one isn’t bullied at night.”
“Are you talking about the camp in the abandoned construction site?” Allen Zhang said hesitantly.
“You know that place?” Eddie exclaimed in surprise.
“Of course, two people from my team live there; maybe you will find some common ground.” Allen Zhang said, “You can ask your friends to come over now, and discuss whether to join our team.”
“Okay!
Please wait a moment, I will go and inform my friends right away!” Eddie left, using his crutches.
About ten to fifteen minutes later, he returned with a group of Beggar Gang recruits who were blind, hunchbacked, and missing limbs.
Oh boy, these were true begging professionals!
Allen Zhang decided to set up another begging project on the street.
Clean-garment team collects cans, dirty-garment team begs.
Collecting cans in the morning, begging in the afternoon, how could this not be an extra income?
Upon hearing about the Beggar Gang’s benefits, these vagrants were initially skeptical, fearing it was some pyramid scheme, but reassured by Eddie’s emphatic guarantees, they decided to come and see.
Just then, David arrived driving a garbage truck, and Leo and Monica got out, learning the circumstances from Allen Zhang.
They warmly invited the new arrivals to take refuge at the Beggar Gang’s branch at the abandoned site and join the big family of can collectors and beggars.
Great!
The number of Beggar Gang members has unprecedentedly surpassed ten and continues to grow!
Belief in word-of-mouth spreading, surely more will join the team.
