Chapter 158: Chapter 129: Empty the Goods
Everyone looked at Feis Moden, who was leading the way, with some disdain for his slow movements. The Beggar Gang Disciples simply supported him to expedite their pace.
"Follow me." Feis hobbled along leading the group to the red-roofed Warehouse B-16. The red paint spelled out a string of English words, which translated to donated goods and recycling items.
A middle-aged white security officer sat inside the guard booth outside.
Feis knew Sieg was armed with guns and had the legal documentation to carry them but a security guard watching over the warehouse might not be so accommodating. The guy was just a temp without a permanent position.
To avoid any misunderstandings, he also said, "You guys wait here for me. There are cameras around, so it’s not convenient to take action. Let me just go and talk with him."
After finishing, he looked at Allen Zhang, seeking his opinion. Allen Zhang nodded, "Go ahead."
But Feis was still gazing at him expectantly, and Allen Zhang, a bit exasperated, said, "You’re not thinking of using my money to bribe him, are you?"
"What else? I have no money. How else could he possibly let us in without a bribe? No way he’s going to turn off the cameras just because I give him a hard stare."
"How much do you need?" asked Allen Zhang.
"Just a few hundred dollars should do."
"That expensive? I think we should just go over and have a friendly chat with him instead. After all, he’s just part-time, and there aren’t many people around here at night. With the car parked outside and faces covered, who would know who we are?" Sieg didn’t like the price as soon as he heard it.
Are you acting like a bandit or what? Always thinking about bullying others?
Allen Zhang considered for a moment and took out 200 US dollars to give to Feis, "Only 200! If that doesn’t work, we’ll just go around the back way."
"Ok, I’ll go talk to him." Feis took the money and went over.
Seeing him approach, the security guard also immediately came out to stop him, "What are you here for? Do you have a list of goods?"
Feis directly took out 100 US dollars and stuffed it into his hand, pulling him to an area without cameras, "Buddy, can you help us out? Just pretend you didn’t see anything. We come here often, remember me?"
"Don’t try that with me!"
The security officer sternly said, "The items stored here are important."
"But it’s clearly written ’discarded items’ above! Inside are either goods for low-cost disposal or items of no value at all, only scavengers and charity organizations come here looking for leftovers. We came all this way just to haul away a batch of goods!" Feis said ingratiatingly.
Then he pointed at a few people not far off, "See those people? How much do you earn a day guarding this warehouse? An hourly wage of 20 dollars? Our boss is very rich and can pay you a day’s wages straight up! Otherwise, they are going to get tough! You are alone here, and each of them carries guns, even submachine guns! They’re all tough street gangsters."
"You make 20 dollars an hour, 160 dollars a day, just a few thousand a month, and then there’s tax; you take home 3,000 dollars, pay rent and utilities, and have enough left to spend? Why risk your life over this?"
The security guard considered that what he said made a lot of sense; indeed, he had done this plenty of times before, working the graveyard shift at this post, usually turning a blind eye because people often took the alternate route.
"200 dollars, and I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything."
"Deal." Feis immediately topped him up to 200 dollars.
"The cameras broke again, I need to go fix them. The warehouse door isn’t locked, you only have four hours to transfer the goods, then my colleague and I will switch and take over."
The security officer took the money and went about his business, leaving the guard booth with his toolbox.
When Allen Zhang and the others saw the security camera lights go out, they confidently approached the warehouse door, opened it, and slipped inside. A glance around showed warehouse shelves brimming with clothes, snacks, tires, and containers.
Feis quickly located the small red container, "This is it."
Opening the sealed door of the container, a seafood odor wafted out, with a large number of soggy cardboard boxes, dead fish, rotten shrimp, dead crabs, and algae. The boxes also contained water-damaged phones, with the words "Fragile" barely visible on the soggy cardboard.
The items had clearly been stored for a time based on the green mold growing on them, and nobody came to claim them.
"We’re in luck! Shame all these phones are water-damaged, otherwise how much could we have sold this many for?"
Sieg casually picked up a Samsung phone, a foldable one, feeling somewhat regretful.
Even as second-hand, such a gadget could go for a hundred dollars in the regular market.
"All we need is the gold in the CPUs and chips; whether they’re damaged or not doesn’t matter to us, otherwise these goods would not have fallen into our hands," Allen Zhang said, seeing so many phones stored in a box for the first time.
Ordinary phones here aren’t worth much; shelters even give them away for free. It’s tough to understand who would deal with smuggling cell phones unless they were brand name phones to turn a profit.
Even if a smuggled phone sells for tens of dollars, the value of so many phones is over two million dollars! Excluding transport costs and various other expenses, it’s a huge profit, showing how massive the loss is for the goods’ owner!
