65: 25 Scenes of Minutes and Seconds_2 65: 25 Scenes of Minutes and Seconds_2 “Brand, Brand!” Roman’s voice was filled with urgency.
Brand’s heart jolted.
The Merchant Lady was never this anxious.
Could something have happened to Frey?
He hurriedly threw down the bone skeleton in his hand and turned to look, just in time to see a withered beast chasing after Frey on the sharp rocks.
It extended its claw, resembling a withered branch, and hooked onto the strap of the girl’s backpack, pulling her forcefully to the ground.
“Frey, be careful!” The Merchant Lady let out a cry.
She stood up, lifted her skirt, and wanted to run down, but Brand grabbed back this clueless girl.
Joking aside, how could he let her cause more trouble at this moment.
“You stay right here!” He tossed the Spiderweb Ring to Roman, telling her to keep it safe.
A character’s equipment with magic items has limitations.
According to the witch, this is related to a person’s source of magic power.
But for Brand, a Level 2 mercenary carrying equipment totaling 40Oz of strength was already the limit.
“Okay, Brand, but…”
But Brand glanced around and found it uneasy to leave the reckless Merchant Lady here.
When he first drew the Azure Light Piercing sword, its radiance illuminated the surroundings, making him a target.
Leaving Roman here might attract attacks as well –
If Little Roman got hurt, he would be beyond reproach even in a thousand deaths.
But Frey was also in danger.
He had long considered this persistent and kind-hearted girl as his most valuable companion.
How could he turn a blind eye?
It was truly a dilemma.
Of course, these thoughts flashed through Brand’s mind in an instant.
Down in the valley, Frey struggled, breaking loose from the withered beast’s claw, stumbled forward two steps, but fell again.
She had already seen them both, a glimmer of hope in her panicked eyes.
“Brand—” She hadn’t finished a sentence before being dragged back again.
“Draw your sword!” Brand shouted.
“It caught my backpack, I can’t reach—”
This fool!
Brand decisively handed the Azure Light Piercing sword to Roman: “This sword can suppress them.
Protect yourself!”
“What about you, Brand?”
The young man shook his head, signaling her not to worry, then turned and ran towards Frey’s direction.
Damn it, it’s not the first time anyway.
Lord Martha just loved to play tricks on him.
Let it be.
But like in a game, monsters always preferred to hassle the weak first.
He had not jumped down two levels before a humanoid bush full of thorny branches blocked his way.
Withered Beast, juvenile, Level 7 monster, strength 2.2 energy levels, constitution 3 energy levels, dexterity 1.2 energy levels, dark attribute, vulnerable to fire, vulnerable to slashing, partially immune to puncture.
Memories of old surged like water in Brand’s mind.
High constitution was a big trait of plant-based monsters, though their agility was often a weakness—especially dark attribute, weak to fire and slashing, the Azure Light Piercing sword was their innate nemesis.
Too bad he didn’t have it.
He couldn’t help but curse this haunted situation.
His only reliance now was 2.1 energy levels of dexterity; he didn’t plan to tangle with the opponent.
But it seemed that the juvenile withered beast had no intention of agreeing with him.
It made a rustling sound as it lunged at him.
Although with a humanoid form, it ran on all fours, resembling a primitive wild man.
Brand sidestepped the opponent’s claw.
The thorny branches scraped his forehead, leaving bloodstains—fortunately, it wasn’t undead, or the corpse rot poison in his body would have deepened.
But he hadn’t had time to feel relieved when a line of eerie green text appeared on his retina:
“Emergency Warning: Paralyzing toxin invasion.”
Dammit!
How could he forget this?
Brand almost cursed out loud.
In the past, at over Level 20, he could easily bypass the withered beasts’ territory, and he had forgotten that their attacks carried poison.
Even though it was just a meager paralysis toxin, combined with his internal corpse rot poison, it was still unbearable.
However, cursing aside, he didn’t dare delay.
He pressed down on the thorny claws and pushed, then targeted the dark red withered beast beside Frey, triggering a charge.
It was an adult beast.
He couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
An adult withered beast with 4.7 energy levels strength surpassed a stone statue ghost.
Level one strength was no joke.
But strangely, with such a beast, Frey should have been dragged away long ago.
Regardless, Brand leveraged the juvenile withered beast’s force and flew out, then pivoted in mid-air.
With the charge activated, he accelerated, hurtling across a series of jagged rocks like a shadow.
Dozens of meters flashed by in an instant—
“Let go of the backpack, Frey!”
But Frey clung to the backpack, shaking her head vehemently.
She grabbed a protruding sharp stone with one hand, almost unable to hold on.
Finally, Brand reached her just in time, “Duck.” He commanded, drawing the longsword from Frey’s back and slicing through the adult withered beast’s hold on the backpack strap in one swift motion—
The dark red humanoid bush immediately lost balance and tumbled backward.
It tried to grab something to steady itself, but Brand had already kicked it in the chest, sending it rolling into a deep crack behind.
Withered beasts are light, so it wouldn’t die from the fall, but it wouldn’t climb back up anytime soon either.
Seeing this, our protagonist finally breathed a sigh of relief, but then he turned around and his tone became exceptionally stern:
“Do you have a death wish?”
Frey looked up at him with bright eyes, seemingly not expecting him to get so angry.
She bit her lip stubbornly and turned her head away.
But Brand suddenly saw her hand, chafed and bloodied.
He hesitated, unable to scold her further.
Moreover, the crisis was not over.
He sighed, pulled her up, and said, “I have many questions for you, but they can wait.
Roman is still waiting for us up there.”
“Um.”
Unfortunately, as Brand was about to turn back, he saw two points of golden light flash and disappear into his chest.
Two points of experience.
He was stunned as he looked up—seeing Roman with one hand holding her skirt and the other clutching the elf sword, carefully making her way down.
The juvenile withered beast that blocked her path was pierced through the heart, turning to ash.
This Merchant Lady was also startled, not expecting her sword to be so powerful!
“Why did you come down too?” Brand suddenly had an urge to beat this person up.
“But I thought seriously, Brand, and I felt I couldn’t protect myself well.”
Brand was momentarily speechless.
