Chapter 55: Chapter 53: Justice and Injustice

"What are you planning to write?" the cousin asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Some settings in novels! On this dark and windy night, I suddenly had an inspiration, and this time, it’s definitely going to be a hit, a hit that will make me a Platinum God!"

Wang Hao was still contemplating the plot of "Paradise."

"Hm? You’re going to become a God again? For what, the umpteenth time now?" Han Xiaoyue’s face showed a smile that took pleasure in his misfortune. Wang Hao’s failures had become a constant backdrop to his life, and it was all too common to hear him wailing in front of his computer, "Why does nobody read, why, when I write so incredibly well!"

Sadly, even Lucky Fish Fortune couldn’t magically improve his writing skills or increase his readership.

Writing novels and failing might have been the biggest setback in Old Wang’s life.

"Cough cough... This time I’ve switched to a Cthulhu theme, which might be more popular," Wang Hao said with unashamed thickness in his face while sneakily glancing at the girl before him with the corner of his eye.

Eros, it seems, is the universal panacea. The loose pajamas just about concealed the plumpness, but the roundness of her legs was not something that could be hidden, turning the prior terror into a colossal idiotic scene.

Wang Hao realized a fact!

Right, even if there were a ghost at home, it should be the cousin who’d bite the dust first!

I’m Jin Li, there’s no way I’d be the first to die.

"The pen is on the desk, help yourself."

Han Xiaoyue noticed Wang Hao’s inappropriate gaze, tugged her pajamas, then retreated a few steps and climbed back into the bed, covering herself tightly with the blankets.

Yet, without any mercy, she said, "So you don’t even have a pen or paper after graduation, huh? Have you truly fallen so far as to no longer be a cultured person?"

Wang Hao tiptoed into her room, explaining, "Don’t talk about me. After graduation, many people don’t have paper and pen at home, and you’ll be the same in the future."

"Decline is a slow and enduring process, and entropy always increases. Those who can restrain their desires and manage themselves are exceedingly rare."

"I won’t fall into decline. I’ll never do that. I’m going to study hard, improve every day, and live each day well," Han Xiaoyue muttered something from her bed, "After all, if I don’t take it seriously, I’ll..."

"You’ll what?"

"What would a successful person like you understand about the troubles of ordinary people?"

Suddenly, Wang Hao noticed that his cousin was actually reading a thick paperback book.

No matter how thick-skinned he was, he felt a wave of shame.

Look at her nightlife: reading at night, world-class literature!

And my nightlife: playing games, scaring myself like a fool.

Both subjected to nine years of compulsory education, yet the gap between people can be so vast.

However, when he saw the title of the book, Wang Hao’s eyes lit up, and he immediately felt assertive again because the name of the book was—"The Overbearing CEO Falls in Love with Me."

His thick skin sprang into action immediately.

Imitating Han Xiaoyue’s tone, he said, "For a high school girl to be reading this, you’ve really let yourself go, darling. You have college entrance exams in two months."

"Oh, I get it, you’re imagining ’The Overbearing CEO Falls in Love with Me’ now that you can date openly in college, huh?"

"The youth these days."

Han Xiaoyue immediately put away that book, hiding it under her pillow.

Her face wasn’t as thick as Wang Hao’s; her cute, round face turned red, her fingers kept fidgeting with the quilt: "I didn’t read it, it’s a classmate’s! A classmate borrowed it from the library and temporarily left it with me!"

"Oh, oh, didn’t read it, it’s a classmate’s, I have a classmate, I have so many classmates. I have countless classmates." Wang Hao mocked her with an obviously disbelieving indulgent tone.

"What I mean is, can’t you read something more mature, instead of this historical fantasy nonsense, which is out of touch with adult logic — chasing something for nothing, worshipping money, inexplicably splashing people with coffee, and then daydreaming about a domineering CEO falling in love with me—these silly stories."

"Do you even know what a real domineering CEO is like?"

"What... have you met one?" Han Xiaoyue felt herself burning with embarrassment.

"Of course, I’ve met them: Just a buzz, nothing to make a fuss over, the odds of winning are slim, so why worry, it’s just a rash, no need for meds next time. That’s the life of a real domineering CEO."

"Don’t think I don’t understand the meaning behind those words!" She glared at him fiercely, feeling a sense of furious frustration.

Wang Hao couldn’t help but laugh out loud with pleasure: "You’re really something now, even knowing all these terms."

"But that’s okay... If you’re short on cash, I can transfer some to you now, don’t learn from them, okay."

Han Xiaoyue kept silent; this guy was just too despicable.

Only the words "cheap wench" could describe him!

But like a penniless and thin-skinned person under others’ roofs and with a life full of bumps, she could not win an argument with a "cheap wench." Rashly fighting back would only result in gratuitous insult.

She knew this all too well; only by force could she make the damned "cheap wench" run away in panic!

Unfortunately, she was currently in her pajamas, which made it inconvenient to move around—using force would only amuse the "cheap wench" even more, maybe to the point of crying out with delight.

Seeing his cousin getting annoyed, Wang Hao stopped teasing her. He was just joking, and feeling very pleased.

"Go ahead and look, there’s nothing to be ashamed of. As long as you can separate reality from fantasy, it’s all good."

"Hmph!!"

He sat quietly on the chair and began organizing the clues collected from the first cycle of "Paradise":

"Grandma, mirror, neighbor, Biaozi, Biaozi’s skin, Paperman, cornbread, the previous child," as well as the "mother" that appeared in the diary last.

He listed all the clues, one by one.

These clues were jumbled, seemingly without any breakthrough at first glance, forming a dense fog that tightly concealed the truth.

Wang Hao furrowed his brows, deep in thought and meditation, parsing each clue.

The first question: was Grandma really on the side of justice?

Considering all the clues, Grandma might not be absolutely just because the neighbor claimed— "Grandma wants to kill me!"

And the existence of "the previous child" might... also suggest that Grandma wasn’t entirely just.

Of course, this wasn’t necessarily the case—the previous child could have been responsible for his own demise, not directly by Grandma.

"Grandma might be searching for one child after another that meets certain criteria for some special purpose. Whether that purpose is just remains unclear."

"But at least, the Rules Grandma provided are mostly accurate. If the Rules are strictly followed, surviving seven days shouldn’t be a problem."

"There’s no reason for Grandma to intentionally kill me and my brother while she’s out. There’s no need for that."
