Alternate Dimension Game: Happiness is all that matters! -
Chapter 197 - 181: The First Underground Level, Arrived!
Chapter 197: Chapter 181: The First Underground Level, Arrived!
"Poor girl, an A-level member of some organization and she’s actually slightly malnourished..."
Wang Hao sighed.
But that’s no big deal. Covered by this great God, Three Stars difficulty, it’s a piece of cake.
The Game scenario had officially begun.
The decrepit elevator, with its flickering lights, was undoubtedly a staple of horror films. Just a slight movement would cause the elevator shaft to emit a "creak" of mild sound.
The fearless "Feng Ling" pressed the floor buttons in the sequence "2-6-3-1-5", following the instructions on the yellow paper.
The elevator moved up and down, and after a series of round trips, it slowly descended to basement level one...
That was the method to reach the Parallel Worlds.
...
...
"Ding-dong! 2nd floor!" The mechanical female electronic voice echoed within the narrow elevator.
"Ding-dong! 6th floor!"
During the announcement of the numbers, there was a noticeable change in the tone, as if the numbers "2" and "6" were forcibly extracted, then randomly shoved back in.
But, as a sequence of elevator announcements began to sound,
Feng Ling’s pores tightened, and her muscles trembled slightly.
The unknown always brought confusion.
She didn’t know if she could complete this task...
Rules were the greatest security in this world.
She was touching something beyond the Rules!
Sixth Sense was warning her to stop this action immediately, to leave the elevator as soon as possible... or else, she would face an unprecedented crisis!
But she had no choice.
She had no alternatives.
The world was warping, and human civilization, as part of the world, was inevitably declining.
Many people hadn’t even realized it yet, even as they were being "twisted," becoming part of "It."
Our ancestors, at the cost of their lives, wrote the Rules that allowed people to survive.
Yet, it was mere scraping by... unable to overcome.
At only 20 years old, with not much work experience, she somehow became an A-level member of the organization.
Such was the tragedy of this world.
The number of "true" human beings left might not be many.
And just last night, she had a dream.
The strongest rebel of the homeworld, "Gaia Consciousness," was guiding her to another peaceful world, one with the presence of a powerful Supernatural Power.
This might be the only chance for an outwit escape and to save the world!
Through this distorted elevator, to travel through time and space!
She had no choice!
The mechanical electronic voice announced, "Ding-dong! 5th floor!"
The mysterious code "2-6-3-1-5" had been cycled through once.
Feng Ling swallowed her saliva, with anxiety and tension overflowing her heart.
She had no clue what would happen.
The mechanical voice stuttered, "Ding-ding-ding-dong-dong-dong! 5th fifth floor!"
In the next second, the ceiling light flickered violently.
"Shsh... shsh..." came the friction of electricity mixed with static noise.
The elevator doors that led to the 5th floor closed slowly, producing a "creak" of metal friction.
Suddenly, a sharp drop!
Like in free fall, Feng Ling couldn’t stand steady, bracing herself against the wall!
Her heartbeat accelerated, knowing she had triggered some unknown Rule!
seconds later, another "creak" sounded, and a strong sense of extra weight swept through as the elevator seemed to stabilize.
"Is it back to normal now? What should I do next?" She steadied herself, took a quiet breath, and took out a lollipop from her pocket, placing it in her mouth.
The lychee-flavored candy eased her psychological pressure. The disconcerting unknown was truly terrifying.
The mechanical female voice came again, its tone unchanged: "Ding-dong! Basement level one!"
"The mysterious code really worked, reaching basement level one."
Feng Ling swallowed another mouthful of saliva, with her Sixth Sense pushing to its limit at this moment.
The elevator door indeed did not open on its own, as the Rule described.
She held her breath, carefully contemplating.
"The elevator should be safe."
"But the first underground level might not be the Parallel Worlds I wish to find... but... I might need to venture to the uncharted second and third underground levels. How can I reach the second level? Repeat the sequence 2-6-3-1-5 again?"
"There’s that possibility."
Just as Feng Ling immersed herself in thought,
suddenly,
the elevator doors, unexpectedly, opened again!!
Feng Ling’s eyes widened in terror, almost jumping in fright, as if a stream of cold air shot up her spine to the crown of her head!
She saw a woman dressed in red, back towards her, entering the elevator in a backward, step-by-step manner, somewhat "comically."
But this "comical" clown-like movement, in the current setting, was not "comical" at all... but terrifying!
Since she was facing away, the true face of the woman could not be seen.
As soon as the woman entered, she faced the wall, standing there silently, like someone with social anxiety, trembling from time to time.
"Who is this? Why is she on the first underground level? Is she human, or..."
Feng Ling’s muscles tensed, like a startled wildcat.
The woman ignored Feng Ling, her trembling growing more intense as she frantically searched her bag for something with urgency.
She found a white medicine bottle, poured out pills with a clatter, followed by the sound of swallowing.
"Gulp"—The woman in red sighed with relief, her seizure-like trembling easing somewhat.
Feng Ling remained silent, beginning to think about what she should do.
Her Sixth Sense was alerting her that the other... was extremely dangerous!
Possibly a warped being that couldn’t be defeated...
The calmness now was just a superficial appearance of the other party.
She recalled the third Rule written on the paper: "If you ’accidentally’ leave the elevator on the first underground level in certain situations, don’t panic, please find the staircase by following the emergency signs with green indicators and walk upstairs to find the security office."
"Accidentally?"
There is no such thing...
Rather,
I must leave the elevator!
Staying here any longer might result in—death!
"Just my luck to encounter this special circumstance. I have to leave now," Feng Ling bit her lip, holding her breath as much as possible to avoid alarming the other.
Humans cannot defeat the distorted.
Numerous precedents have proven this.
"I’ll return to a safe environment first, there will be opportunities. Once this woman leaves, I’ll try using the elevator to traverse to the Parallel Worlds."
With that thought in mind, Feng Ling bravely stepped forward, leaving the elevator.
Her heart was trembling, and any action might provoke a fatal response from "the woman."
Fortunately, the woman in red continued to fiddle with her medicine bottle, the clattering sound persisting, without paying her any attention.
The elevator door creaked softly, closing once more.
Leaving the elevator, she arrived at the first underground level.
The eerie woman in red with red high heels did not follow.
Feng Ling stood in darkness, deeply gasping for air.
The lethal threat was gone.
Darkness was not a crisis or rather, she was accustomed to the darkness.
Daytime in this world was brief, lasting only about three or four hours of light, then followed by a long night.
With scarce light, plant growth was slow, leading to scarce food and malnutrition as the norm.
The building’s underground storage was dilapidated, the walls covered in patchy mildew. The concrete floor was slick, coated with thick moss.
The so-called "emergency signs with green indicators" were no longer glowing.
Using her "Spiritual Vision" ability, she cautiously found the staircase leading to the surface.
Bright sunlight was just ahead, the surface might be safe, but that wasn’t certain... who knows?
Only by going out could she discover the truth...

(The new script is really making me want to pull my hair out, I’m hitting a writer’s block, so I’ll write a bit less today to sort out the details.)
(By the way, I’m begging for a monthly ticket!)
