Alternate Dimension Game: Happiness is all that matters! -
Chapter 155 - 146 The True Intent of [Game]
Chapter 155: Chapter 146 The True Intent of [Game]
East Eighth Zone, ten o’clock in the morning.
Kunlun Mountain headquarters, where the Black-clothed Guard’s brightest minds were gathered to discuss the destiny of humankind.
Suddenly, issues had grown more complex with the emergence of a Subordinate Demon God known as the Blood Demon.
Human history seemed to have reached a crossroads of fate!
First came shocking news from an adventure team: In the Parallel Worlds, they had detected ether value fluctuations from another Subordinate Demon God.
A Subordinate Demon God that had never appeared in human sight, existing only in that particular Parallel World.
The name was unknown, and it was an entity only of that Parallel World.
In combination with what the Seers had seen last night, the segment of vision: "An adventure team getting captured by natives, turned into Papermen, children drawing well water aging to death."
Two Subordinate Demon Gods at loggerheads...
The answer was practically shouting to be heard!
Those most intelligent minds quickly analyzed what every scene that unfolded in that demented village meant: a struggle for History Anchoring!
"An unknown Subordinate Demon God, in a History Anchoring struggle against the Blood Demon!"
"That unknown Subordinate Demon God failed in the struggle, most of its power devoured by the Blood Demon, leading to the Blood Demon’s rapid rise."
The high-dimensional games played across timescales far longer than a human generation were enough to send chills down the spine.
The second major news: The timeline had undergone suspicious changes.
Then, it had swiftly returned to normal.
No one knew what had happened in the interim.
And the third major news: More than six thousand superpower users, with high perception abilities, had strange images forcibly inserted into their minds.
Over six thousand!
The previous cases of foreseen strange segments were just over a hundred, and those were from seers of higher ability levels.
This time, the number had increased significantly.
Although the visions were extremely blurry, lacking sound, and hard to extract much information from, the involved individuals were just numerous enough to cause widespread panic, with major organizations claiming it was the work of "Gaia consciousness" to reduce internal turmoil.
However, to the true insiders of the Black-clothed Guard, both the changes and switches in the timeline related to the emergence of another colossal entity...
The Game!
Most likely... it was another History Anchoring struggle!
...
In less than 10 minutes, everyone had arrived in the video conference room.
Number 2 of the Black-clothed Guard was worn out by the distressing matters of recent times.
His already sparse hair had fallen out by half in just a few days.
He hadn’t expected that so much would happen while Number 1 was out on a mission.
A full-fledged Demon God and two Subordinate Demon Gods embroiled in a life-or-death History Anchoring struggle.
Even the apocalypse had occurred twice, turning the whole world upside down. The military stood on full alert, the lives of ordinary people subtly affected.
After all, in this world, conventional weaponry could genuinely be used... Certain small countries, driven to desperation, might indeed start a fight.
Thinking this, Number 2 could only muster his energy and said gravely, "Gentlemen, based on the intelligence we have at present, the Game is using some unknown method to anchor our history, and its ambitions and goals are far greater than we imagined."
"If it really succeeds, part of our world’s history will be anchored."
Number 24 raised his hand to ask, "What happens if the history of our world is anchored?"
Number 2 shook his head, "We don’t know. It’s possible that an Epic Level hero will emerge in the collective cognition of all mankind; nothing may happen; or a part of our history could be altered; or the Gaia consciousness could become its Puppet..."
"Human understanding of higher dimensions is very limited, almost nonexistent."
"This type of history-anchoring Demon God is also extremely rare."
"Therefore, we cannot predict the influence. We can’t assess whether it’s good or bad for humanity."
From this perspective, the Game was far more powerful than the Blood Demon.
One could even say they weren’t on the same level.
The crisis caused by the Blood Demon was merely a stepping stone for the Game to anchor history.
It was fundamentally a difference in computational power and ability.
"Cannot assess?" Number 24 stroked his glasses, "Worthy of a true Demon God."
"The Game’s timing is too coincidental; we don’t even have a choice, do we?"
"Indeed, it seems to want to handle the Blood Demon on its own, to minimize the losses for all of humanity."
Everyone fell into deep thought.
Anchoring history was extremely difficult, first requiring deep intervention into that segment of history, creating an incredibly terrifying influence.
The second necessity is the presence of someone with deep knowledge to record that piece of history as a legend within epic myths.
If that part of history is forgotten by everyone, it means the anchoring has failed.
Of course, "humankind" is not necessarily the only one privy to such knowledge.
The real holder of deep knowledge is "Gaia," the "world" itself.
Humans may disappear, may forget, may become extinct; but as long as the whole world exists, Gaia’s consciousness will live on endlessly.
Should a new breed of intelligent beings burgeon in the future, under the subtle influence of Gaia’s consciousness, these beings will mythologize the history that once unfolded.
Now, with the outbreak of the [Blood Demon] incident, a rare opportunity has arisen!
"Gaia’s consciousness" is experiencing mortal panic, desperately sending out signals, pleading for help from the outside world.
While the [Game] attempts to insert an epic level character single-handedly to resolve the [Blood Demon] incident.
Intense discussions erupted in the conference room.
"Why not just ask the Laplace Demon for information on the ’Player’? Even if we pay a price, we must find that Player, who we’re not even sure exists!" declared the Number 3 Old Lady, bristling with murderous intent.
"That’s imprudent," Number 24 interjected immediately. "Is this ’Player’ that easy to find?"
"I’m beginning to suspect that the [Game] is nothing but a tool of the Player. Because the [Game] altered the timeline for him, then rolled it back."
"This meaningless operation wasted a massive amount of power," Number 24 smiled. "Does an ordinary person deserve such efforts from the [Game]? Think about it, everyone."
The Etheric Abyss also has concepts like "energy," and although different in principle from our reality, the logic is similar—energy conservation, entropy always increases.
A Demon God that’s bleeding resources will slowly decay.
Clearly, the [Game] possesses extremely high computational power and is not of the type with incomplete rules that can be exploited to death.
Can an ordinary human player manipulate it?
Obviously not.
Ordinary humans forcing it to reset the timeline would result in unsustainability, leading to a gradual decline.
"Regarding the search for that Player, we’ve already conducted two large-scale searches and numerous smaller ones. Since we can’t find them, it means they are beyond our abilities..."
"Perhaps the Player never existed, or they’re not in our world. After all, this is a hypothesis without tangible evidence."
Number 24 hesitated for a moment, "Even if the Player truly exists, they might be more terrifying than the [Game]..."
This notion received mixed opinions from the crowd, but soon, they agreed with Number 24’s perspective.
There are things better left unknown.
When you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
Even the Number 3 Old Lady thought she had been too impulsive and shouldn’t rashly delve into deeper information.
"Ah, that’s true..."
"To rashly alter timelines without knowing, we’re unaware. But Gaia’s consciousness knows, and this cause and effect are not something ordinary people can bear."
But thinking about the nesting dolls, unsure of how many layers there are, even the tremendously powerful [Game] could just be a puppet of some unknown anchoring... That thought is frightfully profound upon reflection.
It took quite some time before everyone could gradually recover from that unsettling train of thought.
Someone asked, "Ignoring the Player for now... So,[Game] is signaling us to become holders of deep knowledge to strengthen this anchoring?"
"Not necessarily, we currently cannot discern whether this prophetic vision is sent by the [Game] or Gaia’s consciousness."
Number 2 frowned, "If we chronicle this history, the anchoring would be further bolstered."
"If recorded in bold strokes, even our territory could possibly be anchored."
"If we opt to forget history, the anchoring could weaken just a bit. But Gaia’s consciousness will continue to write history on its own accord."
"Moreover, would those people overseas choose to forget? They have their own means to uncover more information. A Demon God who can manipulate timelines doesn’t bother to conceal itself; they aren’t fools and will try to collaborate with the [Game]."
Being confronted with such an overt strategy made the members of the Black-clothed Guard feel overpowered on a dimensional level.
That’s the difference between chess pieces and Chess Players, I suppose.
The problem is, the chess pieces are not united; each harbors their own ulterior motives.
Humans don’t even understand the impact of being anchored in history, let alone the emergence of the [Game] to prevent it.
"Of course, there is a way to prevent the [Game] from anchoring history."
Number 2 sighed inwardly and said, "If Number 1 and his exploration team could contain the [Blood Demon] before the [Game], then Gaia’s consciousness will only record the legendary tales of Number 1 and his team, unrelated to the [Game]."
"This plot of the [Game] would be utterly foiled."
He gave a bitter smile, "But how difficult that is—hastiness will not bring success. A Subordinate Demon God like the [Blood Demon] is already troublesome enough. With the body of a human, how could it be easy to handle?"
"Moreover, since the [Game] can manipulate timelines, the opponent might be modifying historical events from decades ago."
"What capability do we have to contain the [Blood Demon] before the [Game]?"
"That’s also true."
"For us humans, traversing the timeline is too difficult. The margin for error is far too low."
The conference room fell silent.
