Chapter 133 - 124 Foreknowledge Dream
Chapter 133: Chapter 124 Foreknowledge Dream
"The ’source’ can be extracted from the bodies of strangeness, and is estimated to be over 100 times more precious than gold; it can simply be understood as a kind of Ideal Energy."
"The human soul can actually yield an extremely high-quality ’source’."
Exhausting his thoughts, Old Yang took out a scientific instrument over one meter tall and weighing 300 kilograms from a box.
It looked like a large refrigerator with two long antennas extending from the top. Pushing this device closer to the red fog, he precisely measured the local ether value and physical parameters.
The gauges on the instrument flickered back and forth, and some screens briefly lit up before rapidly dimming.
After a short while, he said, "There’s a high probability, a confidence interval above 90%. I can assume that this is a parallel world similar to Earth, where the physical rules have subtly changed. Areas covered by the red fog interfere with the use of electronic products, and high-yield weapons like hydrogen bombs probably won’t work."
"Additionally, electromagnetic communications will be blocked by the red fog."
"Alright then, supernatural events often require supernatural solutions. Don’t think about nuclear weapons all the time."
Investigator #1 wasn’t disheartened, but rather felt this was within expectations.
Although using hydrogen bombs was simple and crude ... if there’s an easy way, who wouldn’t like simplicity?
Old Yang then released some weather balloons to scout the dark red sky above.
The balloons were equipped with various high-spec cameras, and a few eye-like strangeness—Silent Peeping Toms. These weak creatures, aside from their voyeuristic tendencies, also bore certain animal characteristics, trying every means to hide and avoid being discovered.
If someone occasionally felt watched in their everyday life, it was triggered by these little guys...
There were many of them, some individuals tamed to a certain extent by humans, used to thoroughly scout distant areas.
"High-altitude reconnaissance might take a while, more than 10 hours. It’s a good opportunity for us to rest."
"Preliminary exploration shows that this layer of red light possesses slight corrosivity. Such a terrible Demon God, a parallel world is about to be devoured like this."
Old Yang asked, "If its body is immensely huge, or even not in this world, what should we do then?"
Investigator #1 shook his head slightly, "Let’s consider that problem when it comes up, no need to worry prematurely."
He turned to Chen Xinyi and Smith and asked, "Do you have any items left behind by Comrade Zhao, those used recently will do, or items used by the Glutton ’Xu Zhijun’."
Smith hurriedly said, "Does this gun count? He has used it, and his fingerprints are still on it."
"Good." Investigator #1 took the pistol and started using a copper coin to divine the fate of "Comrade Zhao".
With a few "ding-dong" sounds, the copper coins rolled onto the ground.
The result was startling.
"Can’t figure out if this guy is dead or alive; seems to be in a Schrodinger-like state?"
Investigator #1 chuckled inwardly, divining the fate of a "Demon God Avatar" and getting such a nonsensical result was only to be expected.
He then started to divine the survival status of "Glutton Xu Zhijun", and this time the answer was very clear—there was a high probability that "Xu Zhijun" was still alive, in a dazed condition.
But the location of this Glutton was also in a Schrodinger state, unable to be divined accurately.
"Xu Zhijun... hasn’t died yet."
The Black-clothed Guards had seen too many such events. Humans transformed into strangeness would occasionally have a brief rebound, but the ultimate outcome was usually complete consumption by their instincts, with few exceptions.
This time, Investigator #1 somewhat looked forward to it—could the existence of the [Game] bring some unique surprises?
And the [Game]’s reactions were also strange; on the one hand, it subtly transmitted messages to human beings; on the other hand, it didn’t wish to be found by them.
Completely clueless about its purpose.
"Seems like it’s not the right time, it still wants to play by itself, right? After all, our exploration team is rather strong, if we really encountered it, the Main Character would play no part." Investigator #1 amused himself with his thoughts, finding it somewhat funny, "Then we won’t look for you, Comrade Zhao at level E, go wander by yourself."
He then divined the fortune of their group’s current expedition.
"Ding-dong!"
The copper coins rolled several times on the ground before settling down.
The result was in.
Investigator #1’s pupils contracted slightly—auspicious!
"I knew it, despite knowing the mountain has tigers, like going towards Tiger Mountain, there really is no way to retreat."
"Wait, why is it auspicious? What does that mean!"
Investigator #1 felt skeptical and even doubted he had calculated incorrectly. They weren’t here for tourism, so how could it turn out to be auspicious?
Does it have something to do with the [Game]? But in any case, could they gain some benefits?
Such a strange outcome almost made him want to divine again, but as they say, "heaven’s secrets should not be divulged", a second calculation has far less accuracy than the first.
"How did the divination turn out?" the foreign friend inquired.
"Great misfortune." The old man contemplated for a moment and quickly responded.
"Ah, very normal..."
Everyone’s faces turned rather grim.
The Blood Demon was about to devour this parallel world, dragging Earth into this ghastly place along with it; what else could the outcome be but great misfortune?
"Gentlemen, the boat will straighten when it reaches the bridge, solutions are always thought up by people." Investigator #1 smiled calmly and evenly, "Rest well tonight, revitalize your spirits, having obtained preliminary investigation results, we’ll officially depart tomorrow."
The people returned to their resting rooms, located on a high-rise flat with a great view.
The nearby Gluttons had already been cleared out, almost no danger.
This parallel world seemed to have no day or night, with the red light that never faded in the sky.
From a distance, a few Gluttons were seen wandering on the first floor, making excellent Bodyguards.
After confirming the area was clear, the old man lay on a simple mattress, eyes closed, breathing steady, and slept soundly.
It wasn’t that he was unfeeling or apathetic, but rather a special ability—Foreknowledge Dreams!
From S-level Investigators, one must possess a survival ability from either the Time System or Space System.
For Investigators, the value of survival abilities far outweighs that of offensive capabilities. Given the infinite number and variety of anomalies, only by protecting oneself can one investigate and gather more information.
Precognition, naturally, counts as one of the Time System abilities.
This ability, known as "Foreknowledge Dreams," allows one to receive essential information related to one’s own life while sleeping, with almost no side effects—aside from not sleeping well and occasionally being woken up by a fright.
Of course, this thing isn’t always reliable.
After all, dreaming isn’t something humans can forcibly control.
However, Investigator No. 1’s foreknowledge dreams follow a subjective regularity: the greater the psychological pressure, the more likely he is to dream; the closer to a deadly situation, the more likely he is to dream.
He dreamt in a daze...
He dreamt he was a member of an expedition team from the last century, a Tomb Robber named "Pan Hao," traveling by boat to "Paradise."
The leader was a white nobleman named "Gregory," and they had made do for a night in a small temple.
"Dinglingling, dinglingling."
The sound of the wind chimes rang.
At dawn, a red aberration floated over from outside the temple, and the team was massacred by a figure in red!
Like grasshoppers crushed under a wheel, the explorers barely put up any resistance before they were completely wiped out.
The chilly morning, the crisp sound of wind chimes, the tragic cries, and the roars of despair all intertwined into a chilling symphony.
Pan Hao’s final bitter smile was profoundly etched in the dream, "This last job before I quit, it’s tough to handle!"
"Huh?!"
He opened his eyes!
Investigator No. 1 woke from his sleep with a start and found himself covered in cold sweat.
He slowly calmed down as he recalled the vivid dream.
A sense of wonder and suspicion rose within him.
"That should have been a Foreknowledge Dream..."
"Who is Pan Hao?"
"An explorer who died in Taoyuan Village... A story that actually happened in history?"
The dream was too vivid, making him feel as though he was there, especially that sense of impending death.
Too real!
"Why did it appear in my dream? Will we encounter this entity in the near future?"
Investigator No. 1 frowned and pondered for a moment, but couldn’t figure it out.
He felt this thing...
Wasn’t too powerful!
It wasn’t that he was overconfident; in his lifespan, he had encountered too many risks.
This sort of clearly physical anomaly, no matter how powerful, had ways to be dealt with.
The red-clad could bully outdoor exploration teams, but against international-level teams, it would just be delivering itself.
Their Strange Objects could contend with Subordinate Demon Gods, let alone a minor red-clad oddity.
But why did this dream occur, so vividly at that?
This scene seemed somewhat abnormal.
"Could it be an Avatar of the Blood Demon?" he mused, his brow tightly furrowed, "Should we find a way to kill it?"
Killing the Blood Demon Avatar would not only prevent the Blood Demon from going on a rampage, but it would also sink in the Etheric Abyss.
"Avatar" is actually quite complex, involving the "Demon God’s" anchoring in the real world.
It’s not easy for a "Demon God" to invade a low entropy world; a strong enough anchoring is necessary.
There could be many anchorings, but an "Avatar" is certainly the most solid anchoring.
Explorers would love to encounter a true Blood Demon Avatar, wrap it up in a Corpse Wrapping Cloth (fake), and throw it directly into a Dimension Fragment.
Once the anchoring is severed, the Blood Demon would have no choice but to sink.
Of course, such wishful thinking that makes one almost laugh out loud shouldn’t be hoped for too dearly.
"This treasure-hunting expedition used some modern Equipment, but it wasn’t as advanced as it is now; the timeline of this story must be several decades ago. Could it be that the red-clad anomaly has grown stronger over the decades?"
It’s not outside the realm of possibility.
With that thought, he took down the information with pen and paper and then described it again with his voice on his phone.
Then, he started to sketch images from the dream using a pencil.
Turning on his headset, he said, "Chen Xinyi, ask headquarters to look up the life stories of ’Pan Hao’ and ’Gregory.’ They might be explorers who disappeared decades ago. I’ve drawn some simple portraits."
Chen Xinyi was not asleep at the moment, "Mr. Investigator No. 1, it might be difficult to investigate with just two names...especially since they are decades old. There was no internet back then, and many records may have been lost."
Investigator No. 1 said, "I have already finished the portraits, just try your best. It might involve important information about this matter."
