Allure of a Country Maiden
Chapter 909 - 907_1

Chapter 909: Chapter 907_1

Fang Wanping couldn’t help but feel elated in her heart. She knew it would be like this. She bowed her head to hide the joy in her eyes, appearing rather remorseful: "But if I live in a comfortable place while my parents do not, I would feel guilty and uneasy."

Master Fang felt reassured by his daughter’s words, he stood up: "All right, it’s settled then. Wanping, you’ll stay at the Garden Hotel, and we’ll find another inn."

Mrs. Fang also grasped Fang Wanping’s hand upon hearing this, smiling: "My silly girl, those kinds of inns aren’t suitable for you. You should obediently stay at the Garden Hotel. Among those who come and go there are only the rich and noble, and the Magistrate himself stays there. You won’t be bothered by disreputable people; it would put your parents at ease. Otherwise, if you were to stay alone in another inn, your mother would definitely be worried and unable to sleep. If there’s a room available tomorrow, we’ll come and keep you company."

Upon hearing these words, Fang Wanping reluctantly agreed, "All right then. First thing in the morning, I’ll have Xiao Ling keep an eye out. If someone checks out, I’ll immediately book the room."

"Good girl, let’s go! We’ll see you back to your guest room, and then look for another inn to stay in."

"How could we do that? I should accompany my parents to find an inn to stay in before I return to the Garden Hotel! This way I’ll also know where you’ve settled!"

"All right then!"

After deciding, they set out to find another inn.

Xiao’er returned to her room and looked out the window, just as Fang Wanping and her family entered the inn not too far across from her. She had intended to have Yang Liu tell the innkeeper that if the Fang family asked about other rooms, to say outright that there were none.

Xiao’er really didn’t want to see them anymore, having encountered them three times in a day. This inauspicious encounter, she felt was more than enough.

Seeing them go to another inn themselves, Xiao’er could finally relax.

Xiao’er could never have guessed that the Fang family would act so peculiarly, staying in two different inns.

Fang Wanping found a decent inn with her parents. They booked an upper room and two lower rooms.

The furniture in the upper room of the inn was reasonably clean, but after all, it was somewhat dusty, a thin layer of dust had settled on the window sill. Unlike the Garden Hotel, every corner there was spotless.

Furthermore, in the guest rooms of the Garden Hotel, fresh flowers were placed on the tables and in the wall cabinets. As soon as the room door was opened, one could smell a hint of floral scent, making one feel relaxed and happy.

The beds in the Garden Hotel were also very soft, the design on the quilts was very appealing, and sleeping on it one could smell a faint flower scent and the smell of freshness. One sniff would tell you that it was freshly cleaned and unused.

Fang Wanping helped her parents make the bed. She put away the inn’s quilt and set it aside. When she smelled the faint moldy scent coming from the quilt, she almost vomited.

This task was normally done by a maid, but she wanted to show her filial piety and insisted on doing it herself. Now, she was somewhat regretting it!

She hastily held her breath, quickly put the quilt in a cabinet at the side, then haphazardly accepted the quilt handed over by the maid and hurriedly made the bed.

She didn’t concern herself with whether the bed was evenly made or whether it would be comfortable to sleep on.

After all, these tasks were usually done by maids. It was normal if she didn’t do them well, she was just trying to display her good intentions.

Mrs. Fang, seeing her daughter clumsily making the bed and leaving it in a mess, knew she had never done this task before. She then stopped her daughter: "That’s enough. You’re making the bed no better than not making it at all. Just let the maid do these chores, you should go back to the Garden Hotel and rest."

Fang Wanping looked shamefaced: "Mother, I can’t even make the bed!"

"It’s not your fault. This is a task meant for the servants, you should hurry up and go back!"

Fang Wanping had been wanting to go back to her room and sleep for a while now, so she nodded in agreement.

Master Fang, having set down his luggage, needed to report to the Government Office.

As a sub-prefect, the Imperial Court had arranged for him a house. Although the house was not big, only having two sections, Master Fang felt it was best to get it as soon as possible, refurbish it a bit, and keep it handy.

The house was just next to the Magistrate’s mansion. Who knows, the Magistrate might move one day.

...

At dusk, Master Fang returned from the Government Office and had dinner at the restaurant with his wife and daughter.

Mrs. Fang looked at Master Fang, who seemed to have a lot on his mind, and asked: "My dear, what’s wrong? You’ve been looking preoccupied since you returned from the Government Office. Did something happen?"

Master Fang, putting down his chopsticks, remarked: "I get the feeling the Magistrate doesn’t like me."

Fang Wanping was somewhat anxious: "Why? Father, what did you do at the Government Office? Or did you say something inappropriate and leave a bad impression on the Magistrate? What did he say to you?"

Master Fang shook his head: "Nothing! I just greeted him, he nodded, didn’t say anything."

He just felt the Magistrate was slightly cold towards him.

On hearing these words, Fang Wanping sighed in relief: "Don’t worry, Father. Maybe the Magistrate is just a cold person, and it doesn’t mean he dislikes you."

"Yes! You don’t even know the Magistrate. How could he dislike you for no reason? Let’s eat."

Master Fang, hearing these words, felt they made sense and finally relaxed.

His wife made a good point; he hadn’t done anything, how could the Magistrate dislike him without reason!

After dinner, Master Fang and Mrs. Fang accompanied Fang Wanping back to her guest room before leaving.

As they walked into the main hall of the Garden Hotel, they saw Jingrui coming in.

Upon seeing him, Master Fang immediately stepped forward to greet him: "Greetings, Sir."

Seeing their father bowing to this man, Fang Wanping was completely stunned. Sir? The Magistrate? Was he the Magistrate?!

Then what is the relationship between him and those businesswomen?!

Could it be that they weren’t businesswomen at all, and they had deceived her?!

Jingrui glanced at them, his brows slightly furrowed. He gave a slight nod in response and tried to bypass them to go inside.

Master Fang quickly introduced his wife and daughter: "Sir, this is my wife, and this is my daughter, nicknamed Wanping."

Mrs. Fang quickly stepped forward to bow: "Greetings, Sir."

Seeing her daughter standing dumbfounded, Mrs. Fang subtly tugged at her sleeve, hinting for her to hurry up and pay her respects.

Coming back to her senses, Fang Wanping, with an anxious heart, lowered her head and respectfully paid her respects.

Jingrui glanced at the maid standing behind Fang Wanping, showing no emotion. He lightly nodded and then spoke in a detached manner: "You may rise."

After saying that, Jingrui left them and walked away.

"The Magistrate truly lives up to his reputation, he’s indeed handsome and talented," Mrs. Fang admired as she watched Jingrui’s retreating figure, her eyes full of admiration.

If her daughter could marry him, it wouldn’t be a disgrace. She looked at her own daughter again: youthful and charming!

Indeed, they appeared to be a match made in heaven!
