Allure of a Country Maiden -
Chapter 493 - 491
Chapter 493: Chapter 491
General Li’s Mansion
Upon seeing her son being carried in, bloodied and unmoving, Mrs. Li shrieked, "My boy! You’ve been killed so brutally! I won’t let that murderer get away with this! Mother, how could you let the Di family harm Mingjun like this!"
Madam Li was left breathless by Mrs. Li’s phrase, "You’ve been killed so brutally."
After she finally calmed down, she threw her cane at Mrs. Li, "Mingjun’s not dead yet, quit your wailing!"
"He’s not dead? The vicious Di clan, they’ve beaten Mingjun to near death! No more, I must seek justice from them!" Mrs. Li walked out angrily.
"Stop right there! I was the one who beat Mingjun! If you want to settle the account, settle it with me!" Madam Li dealt with her daughter-in-law in frustration.
"Mother, why did you beat Mingjun?" And so brutally for that matter! Upon hearing this, Mrs. Li turned around to face Madam Li with a look of disbelief.
"You really think I wanted to do it myself? The Marquis Zhongyong’s household refused to take action, so I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands!" Inwardly, Madam Li was filled with rage, transferring it onto her daughter-in-law!
"Isn’t it better that they refused to harm him? Why on earth would you do it yourself? Heavens! You’ve beaten Mingjun’s back into a pulp! Is it because he’s not your own flesh and blood that you could bear to do this? How could you be so ruthless!" Mrs. Li wept as she spoke.
Madam Li nearly choked on her anger hearing these words! Did she think that she was willing to go to such extreme measures? Given any other option, she wouldn’t have been able to bring herself to do it!
It was clear that the Marquis Zhongyong’s family held a grudge against them! Not only did they refuse to have an open confrontation to settle the issue and relieve their tensions. The worst-case scenario would be if Crown Prince Di created another opportunity in secret, and using a sack to cloak his act, left Mingjun crippled!
Instead of letting others do the beating it’s better to do it herself! At least she knows her limits and wouldn’t cause any permanent damage!
But she couldn’t explain this to her daughter-in-law, nor did she have the strength to do so.
Madam Li feebly waved a dismissed hand,
"Enough, I’m tired. Take Mingjun away to get his wounds treated! They’re only flesh wounds. After a period of rest, he’ll be fine!"
Only then did Mrs. Li remember that her son’s wounds had yet to be treated! She pointed at the young attendant angrily, "Are you mute? Why are you still standing there? Quickly take my son to his room for treatment!"
"Use the Jinchuang ointment bestowed by the imperial palace! That ointment is excellent for pain relief and clotting, the wound will scab over in a few days." reminded Madam Li.
Hearing this, Mrs. Li’s face stiffened.
"Do you still have any Jinchuang ointment, Madam?" Mrs. Li asked cautiously.
"I don’t have any left. Didn’t I give the ointment to you? I told you to keep one bottle at home for an emergency, and send the remaining two bottles to the northwest. You didn’t keep it?"
"The last time my sister-in-law from my maternal family said that my nephew fell out of a tree and suffered a head injury. The bleeding wouldn’t stop, so I gave the Jinchuang ointment to her!" Mrs Li’s voice trailed off as she saw Madam Li’s face progressively darkening.
"You!..." Madam Li was so irritated that she fainted due to the pent-up rage.
Mrs. Li providing aid for her maternal family wasn’t a new occurrence. The Jinchuang ointment given by the imperial decree was vital for a military family. It was a life-saving medicine in critical moments on the battlefield!
Despite the chaotic scene, everything within the Li Mansion was finally settled. Following the Imperial doctor’s arrival and subsequent treatment of both the elder and youngster, Mrs. Li finally could breathe a sigh of relief. She generously tipped the imperial doctor and sent him off from the mansion.
After the incident with Ming Jingya, Di Shaowei was still bearing a grudge. After Li Mingjun’s new wounds had healed, on his way to school, Di Shaowei sent people disguised as robbers to beat him. Unfortunate Li Mingjun was injured again not long after his recovery and had to stay bedridden for a full month.
And so, the matter was put to rest.
...
Spring warmed the landscape, gradually easing away winter’s chills.
Xiao’er noticed the flourishing wisteria flowers on the pergola. Their vibrant colors and captivating fragrance entranced her.
She said to Jinghao, who was reading a book under the flower trellis, "Jinghao, would you like it if Big Sister made you a wisteria chiffon cake?"
Upon hearing her question, Jinghao slightly lifted his head. Under the lush leaves, small bundles of purple flowers dangled from the vines. The gradient of purple radiated from the branches, glorious as the sunset sky, dainty, elegant, artistic, and distinctive.
"Can we eat these wisteria flowers?" He couldn’t help but swallow. Such beautiful flowers probably would make delicious food.
"Absolutely, it’s been a while since I’ve had them too. Quickly, help me collect some flowers and I’ll make it right away."
"Alright!" Jinghao decisively left his book and began picking the flowers.
Yang Liu fetched two baskets to hold the flowers.
As Shangguan Xuanyi approached, he saw long strands of wisteria flowers hanging from the pergola. Sunlight seeped through, and a gentle breeze swirled the flowers around as they danced, creating an ethereal spectacle. A girl dressed in purple threaded through the flowers, resembling a wisteria sprite, her movements otherworldly.
Shangguan Xuanyi found himself unable to look away, captivated by the scenery. She was his sprite!
Time had flown by rapidly. The once thin and petite girl had grown up. Once, she attracted his attention with her wisdom, now, he found himself completely enthralled by her beauty.
They had set a wedding date. It felt wonderful, they had experienced so many beautiful moments together.
However, Shangguan Xuanyi frowned at sight of Jinghao ruining the scenic view. He began to speak.
"Jinghao, Marquis Shengping wishes to see you."
"Brother Shangguan, you’re here. What does my father want with me?" Upon hearing the voice, Jinghao turned around and saw Shangguan Xuanyi. He swiftly paid his respects.
"I’m not sure."
"In that case, Brother Shangguan, could you help my sister pick the flowers? I’ll go see what my father wants."
"Alright." Shangguan Xuanyi took over the basket from Jinghao with nonchalance and approached Xiao’er.
"Brother Shangguan, pick these fresh bloomed flowers; I plan on using them for the wisteria chiffon cake." Xiao’er glimpsed at him before returning her gaze back to the wisteria flowers.
Shangguan Xuanyi didn’t respond. He passed the flower basket to Yang Liu, dismissed her and Yang Mei, and walked over to Xiao’er.
Standing at Xiao’er’s side, he saw that they were at eye level, thanks to the wooden stool she was standing on.
Xiao’er’s gaze met with Shangguan Xuanyi’s eyes, glanced down at the stool underneath her, and said, "So that’s how much taller you are than me!"
The height of the small stool was at least thirty centimeters!
Xiao’er felt an internal imbalance! She had to stop feeding him food made in space!
He was growing too fast. Standing next to him made her feel dwarfed!
Especially when she was already considered tall among women.
