Allure of a Country Maiden
Chapter 1070 - 1068_1

Chapter 1070: Chapter 1068_1

The woman noticed the man in black looking behind her. She turned quickly and saw her husband beneath Shangguan Xuanyi’s feet, his body separated from his head. Her eyes bulged in shock. She vigorously raised her head, stared maliciously at Shangguan Xuanyi, and screamed with pure rage, "I will kill you!"

Shangguan Xuanyi’s cold expression remained unchanged. He looked at her dispassionately and replied indifferently, "Really? You’ll have to be capable of it first!"

The woman knew that Prince Rui would not spare her or her child, so she determined that it was better for them all to accompany each other in the underworld!

Thus, she placed her child in the arms of her husband and drew the sword from her waist. She rushed at Shangguan Xuanyi, and halfway in, she crushed a bead in her hand and threw it at him...

"My Lord!" The man in black shouted in alarm.

"No, don’t!" Scarcely had the cry of terror ended than a loud explosion was heard. The bead had exploded.

Shangguan Xuanyi had noticed the object in the woman’s hand even before she charged at him. Thus, as soon as she made a move, he swung his sword to ward off the bead while swiftly dodging to the side using his Qinggong.

Blocked by his sword, the bead landed next to the woman’s child and husband.

Only after the smoke had cleared did Shangguan Xuanyi step out from the shadows.

The man in black heaved a sigh of relief upon seeing Shangguan Xuanyi unharmed. His Lord was truly impressive. To be able to deflect the bead and evade the explosion unscathed within a breath’s time was an incredibly difficult task, particularly considering the short distance involved.

The woman’s face was bloodied, whether her own or someone else’s, she did not know. With bloodshot eyes, she raised her sword and lunged at Shangguan Xuanyi.

"Overestimating one’s capabilities!" Shangguan Xuanyi did not move until the sword was right before his eyes. He simply stretched out two fingers to clamp the sword, exerted a little force, and broke the sword in two.

Shangguan Xuanyi released his grip, flicked his wrist, and the broken sword blade shot out like lightning, penetrating the woman’s chest.

He withdrew his hand and turned his gaze to the entrance of one of the tomb chambers.

A man in black appeared, escorting a mage.

The mage did not anticipate that Shangguan Xuanyi’s men would be so well-versed in martial arts and knowledge of formations, and he was caught off guard.

Suddenly, he noticed the carnage on the ground. A chill ran down his spine as he looked at Shangguan Xuanyi: "If you kill me, the thing on your Princess will be forever bound."

"I don’t know what you’re babbling about, about binding or not." Shangguan Xuanyi looked at him, feigning ignorance.

"You don’t know? That’s nothing surprising. I’ll tell you though, provided you let me go!" The mage was taken aback, then replied with a hint of smugness.

"Who are you?" Shangguan Xuanyi did not respond to his proposal.

Who was this person exactly? How did he know about Xiao’er’s possession of a spatial object, even to the point of knowing it was sealed? His gut told him that once he knew who this person was, he would know why he was privy to Xiao’er’s secret. He did not appear to be from Nangong Country.

Regardless of who this person was and who was behind all of this, he had his suspicions!

"That, I cannot tell you! All you need to know is that my tribe is very powerful, beyond your capability to contend with. Thus, it’s in your best interest to release me!"

"Really? It’s fine if you don’t want to talk. As long as you can endure not speaking, it’s fine. Take him away, and make sure to attend to his mouth well!" Shangguan Xuanyi’s last sentence was directed to the man in black holding the mage.

"Yes, my Lord!" The man in black replied respectfully.

At this point, all the men in black had gathered. In their hands, they each carried a round object wrapped in black cloth. Clearly, they had all completed their respective tasks.

Upon seeing this, Shangguan Xuanyi said, "Excellent! It seems like the Nangong Emperor’s birthday is approaching. The things in your hands would make perfect gifts!"

Shangguan Xuanyi intended to make a straightforward statement to anyone daring to harm Xiao’er in the slightest. Anyone who dared harm her would pay dearly for it!

The mage was shocked at his words. Prince Rui was simply perverse!

Having said this, Shangguan Xuanyi did not spare the mage another glance. He strode out of the cemetery.

"Wait! If you don’t release me now, you’ll regret it. My people will come and rescue me!"

Upon hearing this, Shangguan Xuanyi turned to look at him, "Is that so? Then remember to tell them ’welcome!’"

The mage was left speechless by Shangguan Xuanyi’s words!

One of the men in black almost laughed out loud at this.

Shangguan Xuanyi left without looking back this time.

The mage, however, was worried. He was afflicted with a poison that would act up every couple of days. If Shangguan Xuanyi kept him locked up and he could not access an antidote, he would most certainly die

He looked outside, hoping someone would come to rescue him soon!

Upon leaving the cemetery, Shangguan Xuanyi instinctively rubbed the ring on his finger.

The ring he wore was a spatial ring given to him by Xiao’er. When the mage had said, "If you kill me, the thing on your Princess will be forever bound," he subconsciously probed the space in the ring and found out that it had already been unsealed!

But how had the seal been suddenly lifted? And the mage appeared oblivious to the fact that the space had been unsealed. Shangguan Xuanyi was puzzled.

Regardless, it was good that it was unsealed!

The quiet night gradually gave way to a soundless dawn.

Shangguan Xuanyi emerged from his study and only returned to his room after fully cleaning himself from head to toe in the bathroom and drying his hair.

He carefully climbed onto the bed and lied down.

Xiao’er partially opened her eyes, looked at him, then wrapped her arms and legs around him and drifted back to sleep.

A smile touched the corners of Shangguan Xuanyi’s mouth. He then closed his eyes.

At the crack of dawn, in the courtyard of the residence of Prince An, a surprised cry was heard: "Ah!"

A wet nurse then ran out from a room shouting: "Help, someone! The young master... The young master has vomited blood and died!"

Upon hearing the wet nurse’s words, Shangguan Wanru quickly sat up, jumped out of bed without bothering about her shoes, and ran out.

"What did you say! What happened to Zhuan’er?" Shangguan Wanru grabbed the shoulder of the wet nurse and asked.

"The young master...for some reason, vomited blood....and has died." The wet nurse spoke with a voice barely above a whisper, especially the last three words. But Shangguan Wanru heard it all the same.

"How is that possible!" Shangguan Wanru pushed the nurse aside and ran into Zhuan’er’s room.

There, Zhuan’er lay motionless on the bed. There were traces of blood at the corner of his mouth, and a pool of blood on his pillow.

"Zhuan’er!" Shangguan Wanru, with wide-open eyes, shook her head, and threw herself on her son’s body.

Shangguan Wanru pressed her face against his and realized that he had no body heat left. She had no idea how long he had been dead. He had vomited blood and died.
