Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Want This Man

After all, thinking of someone else’s man, upon Gu Fuqiao’s reminder, Ouyang Qing suddenly shivered but soon regained her composure and shook her head to deny it.

"Since you’re up, come have breakfast." Gu Fuqiao passed the bowl forward and said to Ouyang Qing.

Ouyang Qing glanced at the porridge in the bowl and the small side dishes next to it, pouted discontentedly and said, "How can anyone eat with so few side dishes?"

Gu Fuqiao was accustomed to the Gu Family’s lavish meals, but Ouyang Qing, who grew up eating the food from her birth family, was giving her grief here—it was really too much.

Gu Fuqiao looked at Ouyang Qing and said, "We only have this much to eat at home. If you don’t eat, you’ll just go hungry."

Ouyang Qing had been pampered by Mother Gu from a young age and had never suffered like this. After a cold hum, she turned her head and went back to her room.

Watching her slam the door and leave, Gu Fuqiao couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.

Ouyang Qing coming to her house was likely with the same intentions as Wang Mei, but she had no plans to give Ouyang Qing the chance. Not to mention, what Ouyang Qing wanted belonged to Yan Zhen Guo. According to the original owner’s diary, Ouyang Qing wanted to take everything from her.

She wouldn’t be as easy-going as the original owner. She wouldn’t give Ouyang Qing a single penny of anything that shouldn’t be given.

Though Ouyang Qing living here was a hassle now, Gu Fuqiao figured Ouyang Qing would probably be unable to endure and move out in a few days.

As for the breakfast on the table... if she doesn’t want to eat, then don’t. She hadn’t made much anyway. After tidying up, Gu Fuqiao returned to her room. Inside were several magazines she’d taken from the original owner’s room. After all, she used to be a novelist. Having traveled back to the ’80s, even though there’s a male protagonist supporting her, living off others isn’t viable in the long run. She still needed to study more and possibly submit some pieces to earn a little living expense.

Thinking about those improper views being instilled by mainstream sentimental novels, Gu Fuqiao shivered, inwardly thinking maybe she should write some romance novels with proper values herself.

To prevent them from straying.

Romance novels in this era were almost non-existent. Gu Fuqiao flipped through some magazines and found that they were either about feeding pigs or writing essays, basically useless for her. Eventually, she found a magazine with some small articles and lyric poems that were primarily original.

The first few pages were works from famous writers, like Lu Xun and Lao She.

The ones at the back were original.

Gu Fuqiao didn’t know much about modern poetry, but seeing some simple and understandable poems published, she decided to write one herself.

Just as she was about to write, a figure appeared at the door.

She looked up and discovered it was Ouyang Qing.

"Sis, I want a piece of your silk. Will you give it to me?" Ouyang Qing asked while raising her arm, with a light blue silk draped over her elbow.

This piece of silk was clearly of superior quality. Gu Fuqiao had noticed it before. From the original owner’s dowry list, she knew this piece of silk was the most precious item in her dowry, originally a gift from Old Mrs. Gu. The old lady couldn’t bear to use it and gifted it as part of the original owner’s dowry.

Gu Fuqiao put down the silk in her hand and walked towards Ouyang Qing, asking, "Do you want this piece of silk?"

"Mm." Ouyang Qing nodded. Seeing Gu Fuqiao’s demeanor, she knew that this bookworm would never refuse her request!

However, when Gu Fuqiao walked up to Ouyang Qing, she directly pulled the silk from Ouyang Qing’s hand and said, "This is my dowry item; I can’t give it to you. You’re still young and don’t need these things." After speaking, Gu Fuqiao took the silk and placed it at the bottom of the cupboard.

Ouyang Qing hadn’t expected Gu Fuqiao to do that. Her face turned from green to pale, and in the Gu Family, she would certainly walk away indignantly!

"Gu Fuqiao, if you treat me like this, Aunt will be angry!" Ouyang Qing’s body shivered twice, then shouted at Gu Fuqiao.

Gu Fuqiao dismissively looked at Ouyang Qing and said, "If you want to report, go ahead." After that, she ignored Ouyang Qing and returned to the bed to continue reading the magazine.

Ouyang Qing hadn’t anticipated that Gu Fuqiao would shut her mouth with a few sentences. Now, full of anger with no outlet, she took a few steps out, but just as she reached the front door, she thought better of it.

If she left now, wouldn’t it be exactly what Gu Fuqiao wanted? Besides, she still wanted this man!

Ouyang Qing returned to stand in front of Gu Fuqiao, saying, "Actually, with Sister treating me so well, how could I go back to report?"

She sat down and drank most of the porridge, but it was obvious she wasn’t used to such bland breakfast and put down her chopsticks before finishing, saying, "Sister, what does brother-in-law usually like to eat?"

Ouyang Qing was trying to find out Yan Zhen Guo’s preferences, but Gu Fuqiao came up with an idea and said, "He’s alright. He’s not picky about food."

"Sister, I feel a bit awkward coming to play at your house. How about I cook lunch today?" Ouyang Qing said, lowering her tone.

Unsolicited offers are often either schemes or theft! But Gu Fuqiao didn’t mind. Ouyang Qing’s intelligence wasn’t high; otherwise, she wouldn’t have almost been driven away just now.

Since she liked to volunteer, let her practice well.

Gu Fuqiao nodded in agreement: "Sure, but the market is quite a distance from the courtyard. You’ll have to go out and buy groceries."

Ouyang Qingqing widened her eyes in disbelief and asked, "I have to go to the market? Isn’t there food at home?"

Gu Fuqiao didn’t reply, and Ouyang Qingqing went to the kitchen to check, only to return disappointed after finding nothing there.

Gu Fuqiao stood up and said to Ouyang Qing, "Otherwise, we’ll just make do with something. Yan Zhen Guo wouldn’t mind."

Ouyang Qingqing looked up at Gu Fuqiao unhappily and said, "Sister, is this how you treat brother-in-law? Shouldn’t a woman treat her husband well? Make sure he’s well-fed and warm?"

Though the words were spoken with vigor, Gu Fuqiao genuinely was trying to provoke Ouyang Qingqing.

She was really worried that Miss Jiao wouldn’t go to the marketplace.

If she didn’t send her to the market to refine herself, wouldn’t her visit here be in
