After Transmigrating into a Novel with My Boyfriend, He Turned Out to Be a Native Villain -
Chapter 214: Slept a Bit Late?
Jiang Xi naturally noticed the kiss marks on the woman’s neck, and she forced herself to look away. When she met Yu Li’s gaze, her smile turned sincere.
“So, I’m actually an editor for a news publication. I want to write a story about this building, but I need residents to sign a consent form first. I was hoping you could sign here.”
As she spoke, she handed over the list in her hand.
All the even-numbered floor residents were on it, and going up from the bottom, the second and fourth floors had already signed—even Rong Ya’s name was written down.
Yu Li glanced down at it, the corners of her lips curling as she crossed her arms without moving. “Does everyone have to sign? My husband’s not home. Why don’t you come back later?”
Jiang Xi paused, then quickly shook her head. “No, actually just one representative per household is enough.”
“Really? Then I’ll have my husband sign when he gets back.” Yu Li yawned and rubbed her slightly sore waist.
She’d stayed up late last night, coaxing a certain jealous little boyfriend, and she was still tired.
Jiang Xi immediately realized that the other woman had no intention of signing.
She switched tactics on the spot, putting on a sorrowful expression, her tone pleading:“I’m actually in a bit of a rush. I pulled an all-nighter to finish this article because I really want to publish it today. Could you please sign it now?”
“My boss said if I don’t finish this task, he’s going to fire me. Our company’s about to go under, and I haven’t even been paid yet. I’m really counting on this scoop to turn things around.”
As she spoke, a few tears welled up at the corners of her eyes—she looked downright pitiful.
Hearing that, the woman blinked, her face full of sympathy. “That pitiful, huh?”
Jiang Xi nodded quickly. “Yes, yes!”
“Then be pitiful for one more day.”
Her voice was gentle, her attitude cold.
Jiang Xi: “……” Girl, don’t do this.
Just as the door was about to close again, she let out a sigh, as if she had finally given up.
With resignation, she said, “Since Madam isn’t cooperating, I’ll just have to go find Mr. Bo for the signature.”
A wife with obsessive control issues would never allow another woman near her husband.
Sure enough, the moment she said that, the door in front of her was yanked open.
The woman narrowed her eyes, a cold glare locking onto her. Her gaze felt like something tangible, a venomous, chilling snake slithering inch by inch across her skin.
Jiang Xi gripped the documents tighter, pretending not to feel the killing intent. She forced a flattering smile. “Madam… have you changed your mind?”
“Heh.”
The woman curled her lips into a smirk, extended her hand, and spoke with clear impatience, “Give it here.”
“Of course, of course.” Jiang Xi quickly handed over the paperwork, secretly breathing a sigh of relief.
As expected, what Xu Wei cared most about was other women having contact with Bo Jingmo.
A few seconds later, the paper was handed back. The woman continued to glare at her coldly. “Jiang Xi, don’t forget the warning I gave you in the elevator.”
Jiang Xi’s hand trembled. She let out an awkward laugh and whispered, “Madam, you can rest assured—I’m just trying to make a living here, you know how it is.”
What she got in response was Xu Wei’s scoff and a loud “bang” as the door slammed shut.
Jiang Xi inhaled deeply, then slowly exhaled.
What a struggle.
She subconsciously looked up toward the top of the page, and her eyes froze. Her pupils contracted.
That handwriting…
She glanced at the tightly shut door, then quickly walked toward the elevator.
After she left, the door that had just been closed was opened once again.
Yu Li leaned against the frame with her arms crossed, watching Jiang Xi’s departing back with a sigh.
“Playing the provocation card, huh…”
She turned to glance at the door next to hers, raising her brows with a smirk full of hidden meaning.
In truth, she was more curious about Rong Fan and what his deal really was.
At that moment, inside Mu Chengsi’s room on the sixth floor—
Rong Fan set down the medical kit and looked at the other two men. “You both came up with your excuses to leave? No one noticed anything?”
Chen Zhixia nodded. “Yeah, I said I was out looking for work. They probably didn’t suspect anything.”
Rong Fan turned to Bo Jingmo. “And you?”
“Should be fine. I left a note.”
Bo Jingmo’s tone gave nothing away, his gaze casually drifting toward Rong Fan. “She was still sleeping when I left. She went to bed pretty late last night.”
Rong Fan’s face instantly darkened: “………”
Slept… pretty late??
Was that detail necessary? What did that mean? Why was she up late? What were they doing that kept her up late??
On the bed, Mu Chengsi—now treated and bandaged—quietly turned her head away. Her expression was blank and lifeless.
Ever since she found out last night that Yu Li was actually Xu Wei, she had completely given up inside.
She had known something was off. There was no way Bo Jingmo would just hook up with a random NPC. She should’ve guessed sooner.
Mu Chengsi closed her eyes and let out a long sigh before turning to Rong Fan. “Is Xiao Yun and Xiao Zhi at your place right now?”
Mu Chengsi’s voice pulled Rong Fan out of his emotional spiral. He adjusted his glasses and answered flatly, “They’re downstairs playing with Rong Ya. Also, I noticed they don’t seem to remember anything about what happened after the mutation last night.”
“They don’t remember?” Mu Chengsi paused, then breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s for the best.”
Rong Fan replied with a quiet “Mm.” “But we can’t be sure if tonight will be the same. We were lucky last night, but tonight might not go so smoothly.”
Chen Zhixia irritably ruffled his hair. He couldn’t shake the bad feeling. Both Mu Chengsi and Rong Fan had gone through it—what if he was next?
He rubbed the sleeping pills hidden in his pocket with his fingertip, thinking maybe he should drug the two elders tonight. If they were knocked out, maybe they wouldn’t mutate.
Rong Fan looked out the window. “Let’s hurry and come back quickly before the other residents come out.”
But as soon as they reached the stairwell, they saw a familiar figure, and their steps froze on the spot.
That person was sitting on the stairs, facing downward. Hearing movement, he slowly turned his head.
In his pitch-black, lifeless pupils, their reflections were eerily mirrored, and a dark aura radiated from his entire being.
Chen Zhixia frowned. “Zhang Jialin? What are you doing here?”
After what happened last night, the guy had been hiding in his room. When did he sneak out?
And when he saw the familiar knife in his hand, his pupils contracted. “Where did you get that?”
He’d clearly taken away all the sharp objects before he left—how did that knife end up in Zhang Jialin’s hand again?!
But Zhang Jialin seemed completely out of it now.
Clutching the knife, he curled up on the stairs, muttering nonstop, “I have to kill the monster… have to kill the monster…”
Rong Fan tried to step forward and take the knife, but Zhang Jialin got even more agitated. His eyes turned blood-red as he shouted, “Get away!! None of you touch me!! Or I’ll kill you!!”
Rong Fan instantly froze, glancing toward the direction of the fifth floor, his brows furrowed.
Looks like they weren’t going down.
A flash of disappointment passed through his eyes. He glanced behind at Bo Jingmo and spoke with an unreadable tone.
“Let’s check the seventh floor first.”
