After the Divorce, I Could Hear the Voice of the Future -
Chapter 396 - 393: Sudden Enlightenment
"Mr. Ota, please wait."
The Ota family came to the door, offering the highest form of courtesy, and watched Lu Liang leave by car.
Ota Renjun quietly asked, "Father, when do I report to Xingheng?"
"Go immediately tomorrow."
Ota Ling's expression was serious as he repeatedly instructed, "No matter what you see or know, keep it to yourself, and don't talk to anyone about it, including me."
As his son and new to Xingheng, Wen Chao would surely suspect him of being a spy. The acceptance process might be lengthy, but perseverance would definitely pay off.
Was Wen Chao able to manage overseas projects worth several billion US Dollars at the age of 27 because of his outstanding ability?
Not really.
It was just because he was at the right place, met the right people, made the right choices, and gained the trust of Lu Liang.
Lu Liang's company was expanding so rapidly that there was always a shortage of talent. Gaining his trust could promise a brighter future than joining Mitsui Sumitomo.
Overseas companies can't be led solely by Chinese executives; they wouldn't acclimate well. Ota Ling knew this, and he believed Lu Liang knew it too.
At eight in the evening, Lu Liang returned to Roppongi.
Compared to the quiet, green-covered Shitamachi, this place flashed with neon lights, adding a sense of prosperity and modernization.
No one was home. A note was left at the entryway — they had gone to a nearby supermarket and would return around 9:30.
Lu Liang's whereabouts were erratic, and he never knew when he'd be home, so they always left a note when they went out.
The notes informed him of their destination and return time, allowing Lu Liang to keep track of their whereabouts even if he didn't see them.
Lu Liang stayed at home for a while, washed up, changed clothes, and called Wen Chao to meet at a pub in Roppongi.
Though it was near his residence, Lu Liang had barely sat down when he saw Wen Chao looking around at the entrance.
"Just out for some fun?" Lu Liang was surprised to see Wen Chao swap his usual suit and shoes for a trendy brand hoodie and shorts.
His hair wasn't styled in its usual slicked-back manner but was instead casually tousled, making him look like a fresh college graduate.
"I'm heading to Inner Mongolia tomorrow, and my girlfriend has the day off, so I decided to take her out," explained Wen Chao, scratching his head, looking embarrassed.
He and his girlfriend were shopping nearby when suddenly, Lu Liang called. He had wanted to go home to change, but ran into Fang Shiyu at the door.
With no choice but to brave it, he entered in his casual get-up to greet Lu Liang.
Lu Liang smiled, "Nothing much, just wanted you to join me for a drink and to mention that Ota Ling's son will be reporting to our company in the next few days."
"A spy?" Wen Chao frowned.
Lu Liang chuckled softly, "Perhaps."
It wasn't strange for Wen Chao to think that, because Lu Liang thought the same. He planned to keep him close to observe for a while.
After a moment of contemplation, Wen Chao said, "Mr. Lu, how about letting him spearhead the Bitcoin procurement in Inner Mongolia?"
Lu Liang didn't want to be seen, nor did he want to reveal his identity. He was wondering whom he could trust.
Luckily, Ota Renjun appeared radiant. His father was Ota Ling, and as long as some secrets were kept from him, he was trustworthy.
Their trip to Inner Mongolia to purchase Bitcoin from miners, although confidential, was not top secret and definitely not worth betraying.
Boss Lu was no easy mark; he wouldn't openly allow spies around him without Ota Ling paying a hefty price.
The price paid had to be proportional to the benefits received; otherwise, it was a losing deal.
"That's fine, let's do as you suggested. International friends also receive special treatment domestically."
Appreciation flickered in Lu Liang's eyes.
This way, even if someone investigated, they would assume the project was spearheaded by Mitsui Sumitomo.
After the serious discussion, Lu Liang curiously asked, "What about your girlfriend? Hopefully, you didn't let her go back alone?"
"Hopefully not."
Wen Chao looked embarrassed, and Lu Liang smiled, "Then call her over to join us for some food."
"Let me ask her," Wen Chao dialed the phone.
A few minutes later, a 26 or 27-year-old girl wearing glasses excitedly jogged over, "Mr. Lu, hello, my name is Huang Yufei. Could I take a photo with you later?"
Wen Chao glared at her, and Lu Liang laughed, "Sure, but remember not just to photoshop yourself, help me touch up mine too."
"No problem."
Huang Yufei grinned and nodded, shooting Wen Chao a glare back, "Why so fierce? Mr. Lu is easy to talk to, you know."
Wen Chao forced a smile, Lu Liang was indeed easy to talk to, unless it involved interests.
In his early years, when he had just started the job, he was scolded every day like a quail.
Lu Liang chuckled softly, "Miss Huang, what would you like to eat?"
"Mr. Lu, the grilled eel here is very good, I saw it on Little Red Potato."
Huang Yufei called over the waiter. Although she spoke English, she specifically ordered in broken Japanese under the pretense of practicing her language skills.
After all, she had given up the opportunity to work at a prestigious domestic law firm to accompany her boyfriend here, mainly to learn Japanese.
As long as she passed the Japanese certification, she would be an Asian lawyer with translation certifications in Japanese, English, and Korean.
"I have a Friend who is also very talented in languages, but she will probably become a teacher eventually."
Lu Liang suddenly thought of Su Wanyu, she had learned the languages of four countries, seemingly Japanese, English, French, and German.
"That's impressive, French and German are hard to learn, especially studying both at the same time."
Huang Yufei was astonished and speechless. She had briefly studied German before, and just like Chinese, it was a completely different system.
She had no choice but to settle for Korean as a minor, as it too belonged to the Confucian cultural sphere and had some similarities.
"But why would she choose to be a teacher? If one were to teach, such extensive language skills aren't necessary."
Huang Yufei frowned, studying four languages simultaneously, French, German, English, and Japanese without a doubt made one a top-tier language genius.
Such linguistic perceptiveness, expressive abilities, memory, and reading comprehension would be very strong.
A natural diplomat or spokesperson. Becoming a teacher would be a waste, like having a scientist herd cows.
Lu Liang suddenly froze; he had never considered this matter.
Su Wanyu had learned so many foreign languages, but who had said she wanted to be a teacher and where had it all started?
It seemed to have been last year when her parents came to Modu, and Su Wanyu accompanied them. After they left, this notion surfaced.
Since then, her career seemed to be set, but was teaching truly what she wished for?
"The grilled eel has been sitting here for a while. It might get fishy as it cools down. Yufei, eat more if you like it."
Wen Chao knew how to read the room and immediately sensed something was amiss. He quickly stuffed some grilled eel into his girlfriend's mouth.
Huang Yufei's eyes widened, her mouth so full she couldn't utter a word.
Lu Liang sighed deeply and wiped his mouth with a napkin, "You guys take your time. I'll be going now."
"Mr. Lu, take care."
Watching Lu Liang leave, Wen Chao felt relieved, but Huang Yufei's look was unfriendly, "Dachao, do you have a death wish?"
Wen Chao, indignant and unbending, retorted, "Eat your grilled eel, don't talk too much nonsense, and almost got me killed."
He knew who the language genius was; the day Lu Liang was seriously ill, he had witnessed the chaotic scene.
Though later he was transferred to the private sector and dispatched to Tokyo, from Boss Lu's expression, there seemed to still be lingering issues.
"Mr. Lu, is there a story?" Huang Yufei's eyes brightened, suddenly smelling the gossip.
"Do you want to know?" Wen Chao glared at her.
Huang Yufei looked aggrieved and glared back, lamenting softly, "I want to, but I shouldn't, and you better not tell me."
Wen Chao was only 27 this year, his annual salary and position soaring, primarily thanks to Lu Liang's trust.
She knew well that trust, once betrayed, would completely collapse and become cheap.
"Sensible." Wen Chao grinned, the proximity to Lu Liang seemingly rubbing off on him.
"Dachao, you really have a death wish. Eat my iron fist as big as a casserole."
Meanwhile, Lu Liang didn't go back but strolled on the streets, admiring the handsome men and beautiful women of Roppongi and the soldiers from the United States.
He set his watch to London time, glanced at it, and called Su Wanyu, "How have you been? Does it still hurt?"
"It stopped hurting long ago. I've been adhering to postpartum training; I'm already back to 120 kilograms."
Su Wanyu, hearing that Lu Liang would visit at the end of the month, beamed with joy, "In a little while, you'll see for yourself."
Lu Liang teased, "Don't train too hard, be careful not to reduce my daughter's pantry."
Su Wanyu fell silent, then responded after a long pause, "Big pervert."
Their conversation lasted a few more minutes, mostly Su Wanyu sharing about the baby's daily routines. Just as Lu Liang was about to hang up, a tender voice came from the receiver, "I miss you."
"We'll see each other very soon."
