After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World -
Chapter 1360 - 1360: Bugs
Anyway, if they were willing to spend maybe 70 gold for each dying slave he had (he happened to have a lot), maybe he'd consider it.
He took a mental note to send a letter back this time. Maybe that new town would be foolish enough to take it.
That said, if they really could afford that much, it planted a bit more greed in Mafo's head.
How much money would they have, then? And how did they get so much?
At this, he looked at Houlu. "Investigate this Alterra," he said. "And give me good information within the week!"
"Yes, Milord," Houlu said, disappearing into the crowd.
Mafo's pushed that issue aside for now, focusing on building a wider network in the region.
He had to make a good appearance in front of the other lords and nobles, wearing his most expensive clothes and accessories. Sadly, he was still unsightly no matter what good clothing he wore.
Rather, such expensive fabric on him made him look gaudy.
Mafo was famously among the ugliest people anyone would ever meet, It was just that no one dared say it out loud lest they wanted to get beheaded—as were hundreds of people through his lifetime.
Fortunately for him, he was powerful enough that even the nobles didn't insult him directly.
After gathering himself and greeting a few more people, he went to greet the mysterious nobleman. He had guards around him as he ate silently, which was good because this meant he could have his attention to himself.
Unexpectedly, he was blocked when he approached!!
Mafo gritted his teeth. He was Lord so he didn't think they'd block him!
However, he could only grit his teeth. After all, either of his guards was even stronger than he was!
Awkward moments passed by and Mafo's face turned red when he realized there were so many people looking in their direction, whispering, and he had no doubt many of them were laughing behind his back!
Damnit!
Fortunately, before he could explode and become even angrier, the mysterious nobleman waved his hand.
"It's fine," he said, and Mafo heaved a deep breath, sitting in front of the man.
"Hello, young master," Mafo said. "I am Mafo, the Lord of Voumi Town. It is nice to meet you."
He did the salute between equals, knowing full well that despite being the Lord, he was of little match to the other party when it came to strength and backing.
Mafo was very arrogant but he couldn't have lasted as a Lord if he couldn't adjust to those with power.
"Just call me Cauis," the bespectacled man said, reciprocating the greeting. However, he made no move to say anything else, and Mafo realized he wasn't planning on revealing anything.
It irked him, but he didn't dare show it. Instead, Mafo forced himself to calm (which wasn't too difficult whenever he felt the levels of the guards) and observed the mysterious city nobleman instead.
He was in his mid-30s and was quite handsome. He had long peach-colored hair tied at the back and his face was framed with special spectacles found only in cities.
It was a bit reflective though, so his sharp eyes weren't completely visible, and it was a little unnerving.
"How may I help the Lord of Voumi Town?" he asked, tone flat and uninterested.
"I… thank you for coming to this event at short notice," Mafo said between gritted teeth. "I'm simply making sure you're having a good experience. After all, you came all the way here."
"I just happened to be nearby," Cauis said, voice flat and words direct. "I did like that I got a few good elementalists with me."
Cauis did not bid for a lot of slaves, but when he did, few dared fight against him. Mafo made a hefty profit.
He managed to get a rare sand user, as well as a few decent-potential ones with more common elements. In total, the man managed to buy 6.
"You're free to come again next month—"
"What is this Alterra that i hear of?"
"What?"
"I've been hearing you mention a few times," he said. His level was higher than most, so he could easily overhear whatever conversations were going on in the room.
It was his habit—to observe—and it was the main reason why he was always so quiet and could not be approached easily, because then they'd be met with his sharp eyes that expressed his dislike for the interruption.
A town willing to buy dying slaves for so much was interesting to say the least, regardless of whether they were really willing to do so or even if they were lying.
"It's an upcoming bug of a territory, a newly upgraded town," Mafo said, shrugging. "It's just an emerging power that'd be eaten by reality soon."
By reality, it would be Voumi. Whether or not the deal would be made, he'd definitely take advantage of that place.
"I see…" the man droned, though his tone remained uninterested. Was he even more interested in Alterra than him, the place he just bought elementalists from?!
"I… if you inform me of your visit, I can arrange a better set of slaves to choose from," he said.
This was an idea he just thought about. If he could create a separate set that only Cities and extremely rich Towns could attend, then wouldn't it add prestige to his auction? He would also be able to earn more!
"I will come when I'm interested," he said, and at this point, his indifference was really getting on the proud Mafo's nerves.
"Well, aren't you afraid that more people would get hundreds, if not thousands, elementalists? They're a major addition to a territory's forces—"
"The beasts do not take notice of the bugs," he said, cutting him off. Mafo paused when he felt the other's stare, though the man just stood up and turned away from him.
"Let's go," he said to his guards without looking back at him.
Mafo's fist clenched, eyes following the man's back.
Why did he feel like he, too, was a bug?!
