After Prison, She Shocks the World -
Chapter 18 Saving Old Madam Su
Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Saving Old Madam Su
"Aunt Ning was once a top doctor, skilled at creating various Beauty Pills and medicine pills for treating intractable and complicated diseases. Now that we’re out, living cautiously won’t guarantee our safety. It’s better to proactively build connections through our own abilities, making others think twice before daring to move against us."
She had once considered lying low and slowly building her strength, but reality didn’t permit such a leisurely pace. She needed to accumulate her foundational resources much more quickly.
"I can also draw," Uncle He said, not rejecting Fu Bing’s suggestion.
"You can draw, but let’s not release that yet. When the time is right, I’ll help you re-enter the spotlight in a better way."
"Okay." Uncle He had no doubts.
Returning to the small house he shared with Aunt Ning, he relayed Fu Bing’s ideas.
Aunt Ning immediately agreed. "We’ll do whatever Xiaobing asks."
Fu Bing was about the same age as the child they had lost, and they doted on her as if she were their own. Doing something for her brought them great joy.
Aunt Ning and Uncle He immediately got busy. On the third day, when they brought medicine for Fu Bing, they also included three pills.
"These are Emergency Pills," Uncle He explained. "They can save a life as long as the person is still breathing. In a few days, I’ll bring you others. Aunt Ning’s Beauty Pills are truly miraculous—one pill can rejuvenate someone’s appearance. The soups you’ve been drinking lately also have beauty-enhancing effects."
Fu Bing wasn’t surprised at all. When she had first been released from prison, her complexion was dry and sallow. In just a few days, she had returned to her former state. Her skin condition was even better than before.
Fu Bing placed the three Life-saving Pills into the bag she always carried and left for the film set.
As soon as she entered the set, she saw a well-dressed, white-haired elderly woman sitting in the director’s chair. Su Junling could only stand beside her.
Seeing Fu Bing approach, Su Junling nudged his chin toward Old Lady Su. "The person you were waiting for is here."
Old Lady Su turned to look at Fu Bing, disappointment evident in her eyes. "She doesn’t look much like her in person."
Hearing this, Su Junling’s gaze toward Fu Bing also cooled considerably. "Are you sure?"
"She resembles her on screen, but not in person."
Fu Bing, puzzled, looked at the two of them before turning to go to the makeup room.
Suddenly, she heard a chorus of exclamations.
"Old Lady Su has fainted! Call an ambulance, quickly!"
"Her medicine! Get Old Lady Su’s medicine!"
"..."
Chaos erupted. Everyone in the makeup room rushed out.
Fu Bing didn’t want to join the commotion. But if I don’t go out, I’ll seem too cold and aloof.
Peeking through a gap in the crowd, she saw Old Lady Su lying on the ground, her face a ghastly pale, struggling to breathe. The hand clutching her chest was beginning to convulse frequently.
Su Junling, sweating profusely with anxiety, could only kneel beside Old Lady Su. He wanted to touch her but feared worsening her condition.
The driver pushed through the crowd, his face flushed with shame. He whispered, "Third Young Master, Old Lady Su’s medicine isn’t in the car."
Su Junling cursed furiously, "How do you even do your jobs? You let her leave without her medicine?"
"I’m sorry..." The driver hardly dared to breathe. He had assumed the maid attending Old Lady Su would have packed the medicine in her handbag. But it was empty.
"Then what are you standing around for? Bring the car over! Take Old Lady Su to the hospital!" Su Junling’s voice was hoarse, cold sweat trickling down his forehead.
He had thought he could command the wind and rain, effortlessly dominate any circle he entered, and have everyone listen to him. But when it came to human life... For the first time, he truly felt powerless.
"Director Su, may I try something?" Fu Bing’s voice snapped Su Junling out of his daze.
Before Su Junling could respond, the driver interjected, "You’re not a doctor. What can you try?" He was terrified that if anything happened to Old Lady Su, he would be blamed.
Fu Bing ignored the driver and looked directly at Su Junling. "Su Junling, the ambulance will take at least fifteen minutes to arrive. Old Lady Su could pass away at any moment. Are you willing to let me try?" She didn’t call him Director Su, but used his full name, leaving him no room to evade.
She didn’t want Old Lady Su to die. But Old Lady Su’s current state was the perfect opportunity to test the medicine.
"How would you treat her?" Su Junling asked, looking at Fu Bing with bewilderment.
Fu Bing took out a small bottle of medicine pills. "There are three Emergency Pills here. We can give Old Lady Su one first."
The driver immediately protested, "How can we give Old Lady Su something of unknown origin? Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners are often charlatans! Who knows what rubbish is in those dark, dubious pills? Third Young Master, you can’t let her!"
The bodyguard also chimed in, "She just got out of prison. What good things could she possibly have? If she had Life-saving Pills, would her own mother have died?"
Everyone watched Fu Bing, expecting a spectacle. Her attempt to curry favor had backfired spectacularly. How ridiculous!
The bodyguard’s words stung Fu Bing. Her mother’s death was the deepest pain in her heart. She pressed her lips together tightly, offering no defense, letting their doubts hang in the air.
Su Junling was caught in a dilemma, yet Fu Bing made no attempt to persuade him.
Su Junling suddenly felt a surge of anger. "Aren’t you going to defend yourself?"
"I think they have a point," Fu Bing replied.
Su Junling: "..."
The others: "..."
Fu Ying, do you even hear what you’re saying?
Fu Bing looked sincerely at Su Junling. "I can guarantee it with my life. Of course, my life might not be worth much in your eyes. There’s nothing wrong with the medicine I have; it can alleviate Old Lady Su’s symptoms. Whether you try it or not is up to you."
Fu Bing didn’t press him. Su Junling was inherently suspicious. The more urgently others tried to persuade him, the more he suspected a trick. This was a common trait among those in high positions. Too many people tried to ingratiate themselves; how could one accurately discern who harbored ill intentions?
Watching Old Lady Su’s breathing grow fainter, Su Junling clenched his teeth. "Give Old Lady Su the medicine."
"Third Young Master, she’ll kill Old Lady Su!" the driver cried out.
The bodyguard moved to stop Fu Bing.
Wu Shi deftly brushed the bodyguard’s hand aside. The bodyguard’s entire arm went numb from Wu Shi’s light touch; for a moment, he couldn’t even lift it.
Fu Bing crouched beside Old Lady Su, whose breathing was now very weak. She was incapable of swallowing a pill. Fu Bing carefully crushed the medicine pill. Su Junling handed her his personal water cup. Fu Bing mixed the powder into the water and carefully fed it into Old Lady Su’s mouth.
All eyes were fixed intently on Fu Bing. She lowered her head, the line of her neck forming a graceful arc. The kiss marks hidden beneath her collar became clearly visible to everyone—deep and shallow, intensely suggestive. Su Junling looked away as if burned by the sight. Wu Shi silently shifted to block the crowd’s view.
Two minutes after Old Lady Su took the medicine, she began to cough violently. Her face turned purple from the effort. Finally, she spat out a mouthful of blood.
The entire crowd was aghast.
The driver and the bodyguard looked at Fu Bing smugly. "What did I tell you? What good could she possibly have?"
Su Junling’s heart leaped into his throat. "When will the ambulance get here?"
"It’s stuck in traffic."
Su Junling scooped up Old Lady Su, disregarding the basic medical knowledge that a fainted patient shouldn’t be moved carelessly. After placing Old Lady Su in the car, he looked coldly at Fu Bing. "You, get in as well!"
