Chapter 76: Chapter 70 Vanity
Chen Feng took Xiao Ya to a high-end Western restaurant.
It was Xiao Ya who recommended it, but, in fact, she had never been there either. She had only heard people say that this Western restaurant was one of the top in Xiu Zhou City.
Moreover, the environment was very nice; although it was a Western restaurant, it was situated among quaint ancient Chinese buildings, a perfect blend of Eastern and Western styles.
Not far from there was an ancient temple, a thousand years old, and monks often could be seen walking back and forth in the entrance corridor of the restaurant.
Upon hearing this, Chen Feng felt it was a great place, so the two followed their GPS to the restaurant.
The environment was indeed very nice, quaint, and the inside of the restaurant was very quiet. When the two arrived, there weren’t many people.
Sure enough, the thousand-year-old temple was not far from the restaurant.
Sitting in this restaurant, a subtle sense of exclusivity naturally emerged.
Chen Feng looked at the menu, picked a few dishes he was interested in, and then handed it to Xiao Ya.
Since Chen Feng was paying, and Xiao Ya had made some money off of him, and most importantly, Chen Feng had no romantic intentions toward her, he didn’t bother with any courtesies like "ladies first."
Xiao Ya, of course, had no objections, though she kept them to herself if she had any.
But she was not trying to save Chen Feng money either, so she ordered five dishes in one go.
"The environment here is really nice. Had you not told me, I wouldn’t have known that a place resembling a scenic tourist area would have a restaurant."
"There’s also a hotel around here—more upscale than a five-star. It’s only become popular over the last couple of years. I heard that they didn’t serve outside guests in previous years, and it’s just recently that they opened up. Even locals didn’t know about it before, much less outsiders like us. The hotel is said to have substantial backing, but they’ve kept a very low profile. Those who know about it, know, and those who don’t, simply don’t."
Chen Feng sensed the underlying meaning in his words; this place was full of ancient buildings, starting up a hotel here, and one that ranked above even a five-star, was certainly no small feat.
"I really didn’t know there was such a place before. Probably because I wasn’t wealthy before. Since I’m here this time, I might as well stay for a few days, kind of like a vacation."
Chen Feng was very happy with the surroundings. Besides, he was very bored living at home alone, and dining was a problem.
So he figured it would be better to just stay at this upscale hotel and come over to eat every day.
"It’s comfortable for you wealthy folks. For us ordinary people, it’s really unaffordable. The cheapest room here goes for five thousand a night," said Xiao Ya with a look of envy.
Upon hearing the price, even Chen Feng felt a bit of a pinch.
Despite having tens of millions worth of assets, a room costing five thousand still seemed expensive.
However, the environment was truly nice, living here gave a feeling of seclusion within the city. In the past, even if you had the money, they might not have let you stay here.
So, Chen Feng decided to stay a few nights; spending a hundred thousand or so would probably be enough.
"You don’t need to envy me. If you do well in the property brokerage, making a few hundred thousand a year is quite easy."
This statement of Chen Feng’s wasn’t untrue; many successful real estate agents make millions a year.
Xiao Ya smiled bitterly, "I’ve just started in the industry, I’m not yet familiar with some things, and being an outsider, I don’t have much of a network. There are some things I can’t really strive for. So, being able to close one or two deals a month is pretty good. At the end of the year, that amounts to maybe just around a hundred grand. And that’s only if luck is on my side; if it’s not and I don’t meet the quotas, I could easily be eliminated. Our line of work only respects performance and money."
As workers, everyone has their own difficulties.
Chen Feng knew this all too well from his own past experience, but he didn’t invite her to dine just to listen to her grievances and personal issues.
He had invited Xiao Ya to join him simply because he wanted some company. Otherwise, being alone was too boring.
So, Chen Feng quickly changed the subject, discussing their alma mater in a very casual way.
Xiao Ya, also possessing decent emotional intelligence, realized that Chen Feng didn’t want to listen to her go on about work, so she went along with him, talking about some of the fun and embarrassing moments from her school days, which did fill the atmosphere with some laughter.
Since there were not many guests around, the dishes they ordered arrived relatively quickly.
The first dish of sesame tuna was very delicate. You could tell the chef’s knife skills were top-notch. The taste did not disappoint, although the portion was a bit small.
The first dish Xiao Ya ordered also came—prosciutto with melon. She didn’t hurry to eat but first took out her phone to snap some photos and post on social media, then she began eating, praising it highly after tasting, and continued to take pictures with her phone.
After finishing the dishes, about half an hour had passed, and Chen Feng only felt seventy percent full. But that was enough.
While sipping the soft drinks provided by the restaurant and enjoying the ancient views outside the window, he felt very content.
They sat for another ten minutes or so before getting up to leave.
However, Chen Feng went straight to the hotel front desk to check in.
The service here was impeccable; guided by a beautiful receptionist, Chen Feng finally chose a village villa, costing twelve thousand a night.
As a wealthy man who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, Chen Feng certainly wanted to experience what normal wealthy people did.
Yet even that wasn’t the most expensive room in the hotel. The most expensive one was the grand villa, which could accommodate four people and had two large beds, costing over twenty thousand a night.
