Chapter 23: Chapter 23 Unrelenting

"Whether or not I go abroad, isn’t that a family matter? What’s there to discuss?"

The wild girl still habitually contradicted.

Chen Feng’s tolerance for her had increased because he had thought about how this meal, this meeting, was likely their last, and any discomfort towards her didn’t really matter anymore.

So, Chen Feng wasn’t angry at all and continued to ask with concern, "Do you want to go abroad yourself?"

This time, Qin Xiaorou didn’t talk back, her face showing a troubled expression as she said, "I don’t know either."

Seeing this, Chen Feng helped to analyze, "In that case, you can use a comparative method. List out the pros and cons of going abroad versus staying domestically, weigh both options, and choose the one that’s most beneficial for you."

Qin Xiaorou nodded unusually, saying, "That certainly is one way. But the main problem now is my mom. She’s also conflicted, wanting me to go abroad for better education, but also wanting to keep me by her side, under her watchful eye."

Chen Feng asked, "So your mom can’t go abroad with you, right?"

Qin Xiaorou nodded again, "Yes, otherwise there wouldn’t be so much dilemma. She has several companies here, her own career, and also my grandma’s poor health to take care of regularly."

"And your dad? What’s he doing abroad?" Chen Feng asked curiously.

Qin Xiaorou gave him a look, not too pleased, "You just said not to talk about my family."

Chen Feng, thick-skinned, smiled and said, "I was just asking casually, it’s okay if you don’t want to say."

"Fine, I’ll tell you, there’s nothing to hide. I consider you a friend, it’s okay for you to know," Qin Xiaorou said indifferently. "My dad now lives in California, he’s a biologist working on gene research. He married a foreign woman who’s several years older than him, a colleague of his. They don’t have children for now."

Biologist!

Such an awesome dad literally shocked Chen Feng. He felt incomparable.

"Oh, I see. Your dad must really miss you. So, he’s always urging you to go study abroad, right?" Chen Feng asked as if it was the most natural thing.

"Not to study abroad, but to settle there permanently, to become a citizen. My dad now has citizenship of the Flag Country."

Chen Feng admitted he was a bit envious. Incomparable, truly.

He hadn’t even managed to get household registration in Xiu Zhou City, let alone citizenship of the Flag Country.

"Will your mom agree?" Chen Feng asked.

"Why wouldn’t she agree?" Qin Xiaorou looked at Chen Feng oddly, "My mom already has a green card for the Flag Country."

Chen Feng was speechless. Indeed, two different worlds; suddenly, he felt very humble.

"Oh, then actually you don’t need to hesitate. Just go. Eventually, you’re going to become a foreigner anyway."

"But I’ve lived here for many years, I’m used to it. Plus, my foreign language skills aren’t that great."

"If you have concerns, then there’s no need to rush. Wait until you finish high school. Meanwhile, work hard on learning foreign languages over the next few years."

Qin Xiaorou thoughtfully nodded, "Perhaps that’s the only way."

At this time, the ordered dishes were finally served, and Chen Feng immediately invited her to start eating.

The two then stopped discussing and began competing with each other to eat.

Here, every dish was incredibly delicious, leaving them no desire to talk.

About half an hour later, they had surprisingly finished over a dozen dishes. Qin Xiaorou had eaten about half of them.

She could really eat—a lot more than he had expected.

Chen Feng picked up a toothpick to clean his teeth, while Qin Xiaorou unflatteringly leaned back in her chair, stretching her hand to rub her stomach.

"You can go to your mom’s now. So she won’t worry," Chen Feng urged.

"I can’t. I ate too much, need to let it settle."

Chen Feng casually threw the toothpick on the table, stood up, and said, "Then I have to leave. I need to catch a plane."

"Catch what plane? Where are you going?" Qin Xiaorou sat up straight and asked, looking up.

"Back to my hometown. Haven’t visited my parents in a long time. I’m going to see them."

"Where’s your hometown?"

"Lu City."

"Oh, I know, I have two classmates from Lu City."

"Alright, I should get going."

"Wait." Qin Xiaorou stood up, her voice tinged with reluctance, "Let me walk you out."

"There’s no need. You should go back to your mom."

"Really? You treated me to a meal, can’t I walk you out?"

Qin Xiaorou was a bit irritated. Chen Feng, thinking that their parting today might be forever, sighed and said, "Okay, just to the door."

The two walked towards the door when suddenly, the private room door was pushed open forcefully again.

"Ah, are you done eating too?"

Liu Meijun was standing at the door, with several others peering in behind her.

Qin Xiaorou immediately frowned.

Chen Feng simply nodded slightly, appearing calm. "Yes, just finished."

"Let’s leave together then."

Liu Meijun stepped aside, and Chen Feng and Qin Xiaorou walked out together.

Those with her looked affluent and distinguished from their clothes and demeanor. Chen Feng politely nodded at them and then headed downstairs first.

Qin Xiaorou hurried to catch up, and Liu Meijun quickly followed, saying to Chen Feng, "Chen Feng, I’ve already paid for your meal."

Chen Feng stopped, turned to her with a somewhat helpless expression as if he’d already been treated to several big meals. What else could Chen Feng say? He merely nodded and thanked her, "Thanks, Chairman Liu."

Liu Meijun waved her hand, "Don’t call me Chairman Liu, just call me Sister Liu or Mei Jun Sister."

Clearly, she was extending this courtesy for her daughter’s sake.

"Alright, thanks, Mei Jun Sister."

Chen Feng smoothly made the switch, to Liu Meijun’s delight.

But Qin Xiaorou wasn’t pleased: "You call her sister, doesn’t that make me seem younger than you?"

Chen Feng laughed, "We each have our own titles."

Hearing this, Qin Xiaorou didn’t say anything further.

They quickly descended the stairs, and while Liu Meijun was still talking to a few friends, Chen Feng took the opportunity to say goodbye to her and Qin Xiaorou.

However, Qin Xiaorou chased after him and stopped him at the entrance of the restaurant, asking, "When will you be back?"

"It’s hard to say. I’ve resigned, right? It might be a while."

"Seriously, just when I enjoy talking to you, you have to go back to your hometown." Qin Xiaorou frowned annoyed.

Chen Feng couldn’t help but reach out to tousle her hair, quickly pulling back as he faced her fierce glare, and awkwardly laughed, "Couldn’t help it. Don’t mind me, I was treating you like a daughter..."

"You really want to be my stepdad, huh!" Qin Xiaorou glared.

Chen Feng faltered, hastily explained, "It’s just a metaphor. I know you’re short on friends, maybe you could try making some friends your own age."

"The ones my age are too immature, some even idiotic, how do I make friends with them?"

Qin Xiaorou sulkily said, "I’ll wait for you to come back, then you have to go to the arcade with me and play all night."

Chen Feng sighed inwardly, nodding, "Alright. When I come back, I’ll find you."

"Good. You’d better keep your word. If you don’t, you’re a jerk." Qin Xiaorou immediately brightened, though her words were still sharp.

Chen Feng suppressed the urge to ruffle her hair again, nodding once more, "Of course, I mean what I say. Let’s leave it at that, I need to catch my flight."

Chen Feng turned to leave, feeling an unexpected pang of reluctance.

Ah, a goodbye today, destined never to meet again.
