Chapter 210: Chapter 140: Lin Yujiao’s Ex-Husband
"Do we really need to be this provocative?"
Chen Feng pushed away Lin Yujiao, feeling a tinge of sympathy for her ex-husband.
Putting himself in the other’s shoes, if Shen Lin was to act this intimately with another man in front of him, it would not only be heartbreaking but also incredibly depressing and painful.
It’s a natural human reaction. Even if there’s no affection left between the two, they were once husband and wife. To be affectionate with someone else in front of their face is somewhat disrespectful.
Moreover, it was evident that the ex-husband still had feelings for Lin Yujiao, his ex-wife.
Lin Yujiao’s current behavior was making Chen Feng feel a sense of guilt.
After all, he had only been divorced for a few months and he did have some empathy for Lin Yujiao’s ex-husband.
"If I don’t do this, he won’t give up on me."
Lin Yujiao said this feebly, her expression somewhat melancholic.
Seeing her like this, Chen Feng’s heart couldn’t help but feel a pang of distress. She was now his woman, feeling sentimental for another man, even if it was her ex-husband, that just wouldn’t do.
After all, he had paid money, thirty thousand a month no less. Lin Yujiao shouldn’t act this way in front of him, even if she was feeling melancholic. As a mistress, she needed to improve her service attitude and quality.
"It’s clear he still has feelings for you, but now you’ve hurt his heart, and it seems you’re not taking it very well either. It’s a lose-lose situation," Chen Feng said with a teasing tone.
"Divorce is generally a lose-lose situation for everyone," Lin Yujiao sighed and said, "I really don’t have any feelings for him anymore, otherwise I wouldn’t have acted like that just now. I’m truly scared of him, and his mother, too. Their family... I would never go back even if it killed me."
Hearing her say this, Chen Feng instantly felt relieved.
Men are like that; in fact, their possessiveness is often stronger than women’s.
On the other side, Xu Jun walked out of the clothing store soullessly, filled with heartache and bitterness. Barely getting into the car, he almost collapsed onto the steering wheel and cried.
He truly loved Lin Yujiao, at least that’s what he believed. They had known each other, fallen in love, married, and then divorced over seven or eight years—how could it just end abruptly?
He was forced into the divorce by Lin Yujiao, with his meddlesome mother also pushing for it at the time, and he reluctantly agreed.
When they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau, he began to regret it, but it was under Lin Yujiao’s firm attitude that he unwillingly went through with the procedure.
Then, the very next day, he began to think about how to salvage the relationship, to reconcile with her, and start over.
But Lin Yujiao was ruthless, immediately blocking his phone number and WeChat, completely severing contact with him.
He racked his brains, smiled apologetically, said nice things, and treated people to meals. Finally, through her relatives and friends, he gradually learned of her whereabouts. He then contacted her using different phone numbers, added her on WeChat, called her, sent texts, but once she knew it was him, she blocked him all over again.
After two or three months of this, today he finally mustered up the courage—and having heard that she was starting to go on blind dates—he rushed to her store with a bunch of roses in hand.
However, what he hadn’t expected was that none of the scripts and lines he had rehearsed many times over would be of any use. Lin Yujiao, the ex-wife, dealt him a heart-wrenching blow, knocking him out in one fell swoop.
Only after a while did he recover enough to start the car and leave this place of heartbreak.
Driving all the way back to his family’s store in the county town, Mrs. Xu was watching the shop, which was void of customers. Seeing Xu Jun’s sullen face as he returned, she asked, "How did it go? Did she agree to get back with you?"
Xu Jun was already simmering with rage, and, annoyed by his mother’s poking right where it hurt, he complained angrily, "If you hadn’t so vehemently persuaded me to divorce in the first place, this wouldn’t have happened. Knowing how much I loved her, why did you still urge me to divorce? Do you want me to stay single for the rest of my life to make you feel content?"
Mrs. Xu was startled, then with tears welling in her eyes, she said in a crying tone, "Yes, it’s all my fault. When your father died, you were only three years old. I remained widowed until now, fearing that you would be wronged. It’s all my fault. When you got married, I should have moved out and found someone else to keep me company, so as not to be an eyesore for you and that woman. I’ve lived long enough. If my being alive is an annoyance to you, I’ll just die and be out of your way."
Hearing his mother speak like this, Xu Jun felt angry, but more than that, a sense of helplessness and heartache. His mother had raised him single-handedly, and over the years, she had endured many grievances for his sake. He had his complaints, but were they as substantial as his mother’s?
He knew he was one of those ’mama’s boys’ despised and criticized by so many, but what could he do? Abandon his mother who had raised him with so much hardship? Argue every day, make her angry, ignore her and let her die alone in solitude?
"Mom, stop it," Xu Jun said, distraught and in low spirits, covering his face with his hands, a picture of pain.
Seeing her son’s expression, Mrs. Xu immediately felt heart-wrenching pain and dropped the act, quickly asking, "Xiao Jun, that woman didn’t scold you or say something to make you feel bad, did she?"
"Don’t ask anymore. Just leave me alone."
Xu Jun shouted, startling Mrs. Xu into silence, her emotions torn between heartache and helplessness.
To be fair, Lin Yujiao had initially treated her mother-in-law well, and the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship wasn’t bad.
