After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire’s Child -
Chapter 277 - 270
Chapter 277: Chapter 270
At this moment, Sophie Parker had just arrived at the coffee shop. Her gaze subtly swept across the surroundings, and the corners of her mouth slightly curved up, revealing a trace of sarcasm.
This coffee shop was all too familiar to her; it was the exact place she and Carlos met for their blind date in her dream.
She secretly rejoiced inwardly. Thanks to that dream, she saw through Carlos’s jerk nature in advance and avoided the tragic fate of becoming a discarded wife of a wealthy family.
Rainny White was already waiting at the window seat, her head lowered, hands clasped tightly together, appearing somewhat nervous and uneasy.
As Sophie Parker approached, she noticed how much thinner Rainny White had become. Her once collagen-rich face was noticeably gaunt, and her eyes were slightly red, as if she had just been crying.
She wore a simple white sweater, with the neckline slightly open, revealing a slender neck. Paired with a dark skirt, she appeared somewhat frail.
"Rainny? How did you lose so much weight?"
Sophie Parker stepped forward, her tone laced with surprise and concern.
She gently patted Rainny White’s shoulder.
Rainny White lifted her head, her eyes slightly red. She held Sophie Parker’s hand and sat down, her voice choking,
"Sister Sophie Parker, what should I do?
Brother Carter is ignoring me. I’ve called him several times, and he hasn’t answered.
This morning, Young Master Manor fired me, saying my work capability was inadequate."
Her tiny face was full of grievance, tears brimming in her eyes, ready to fall at any moment.
Compared to other graduates, Rainny White had always been the object of envy.
She had previously found a job with ease, interning at the Carter Clan. Her classmates and roommates were all envious of her.
But unexpectedly, in such a short time, she’d been laid off twice in succession, and these records on her resume caused her to face repeated rejections in other interviews.
Seeing her dream adversary, Rainny White, fall into such a predicament, a hint of schadenfreude flashed in Sophie Parker’s eyes, but she quickly concealed her emotions, pretending sympathy as she said,
"Do you know why you were inexplicably dismissed?
It must have something to do with Emily. She’s very close with Young Master Manor’s sister, Liliana Manor; she must have spoken ill of you behind your back."
Upon hearing this, Rainny White gently bit her lip, a look of grievance flashing in her eyes,
"Why would she do this to me?
She’s already stolen Brother Carter from me.
I, I have nothing left."
Her tears finally couldn’t be held back and fell onto the table.
Sophie Parker’s eyes held a bit of disdain, thinking to herself,
"Tsk tsk, what a delicate flower.
No wonder she had Carlos wrapped around her finger before."
A trace of contempt flashed in her eyes, but she couldn’t help feeling puzzled.
Why had Carlos’s attitude towards Rainny White changed so dramatically?
Could it really be because of Emily?
Just as this thought crossed her mind, she quickly dismissed it.
In her view, how could Emily, who went on the blind date on her behalf, truly capture the heart of a love rogue like Carlos?
It must be because of that child.
"I warned you before.
Emily is a very formidable woman," Sophie Parker’s voice carried a trace of sharpness,
"I told you to drug Carlos, so you two could come together, but you wouldn’t listen."
She picked up her freshly served coffee, gently blew on it, and took a sip.
Rainny White’s face turned slightly pale, she lowered her head, fingers restless as they rubbed the table edge, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s,
"That kind of drug would cause unconsciousness. Last time I secretly used it, I ended up in the hospital.
I’m worried Brother Carter will suspect me."
She lifted her head, a hint of hesitation in her eyes.
Sophie Parker sneered, a flicker of craftiness passing through her eyes, "The last drug was ineffective, so try another one."
She took out a small box from her bag and gently pushed it in front of Rainny White.
"This is a very potent hallucinogenic drug, along with a pinhole camera.
Find an opportunity to slip it into Carlos’s drink."
Rainny White gazed at the small box, hesitated for a moment, and asked in a low voice,
"But when I ask him out, he won’t come."
Sophie Parker sneered,
"Don’t worry, I’ve arranged everything for you.
In a couple of days, there’s a party, and Carlos is sure to attend.
If you don’t want to lose Carlos, you’ll do as I say."
She knew Rainny wouldn’t dare go against her wishes.
Rainny White could only nod, picking up the box.
The corners of Sophie Parker’s mouth turned up slightly, showing a cunning and cold smile.
She gently swirled the coffee cup in her hand, the coffee rippling, reflecting the fierceness in her eyes.
She mused inwardly,
"Fool, you took my man in the dream, do you really think I’d sincerely help you?"
A hint of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes, "Once you and Carlos actually sleep together, I’ll make sure both of your reputations are destroyed."
Her voice was low and powerful, each word squeezed from between her teeth, full of scheming.
At this moment, Rainny White was unaware that she had already become a pawn in Sophie Parker’s struggle within the wealthy circle...
Emily and Carlos returned to Cloud Lake Villa after dinner with the family.
Mrs. Carter dabbed her mouth and looked at Emily with soft eyes.
"Emily, was everything smooth on your first day at work today?"
Mrs. Carter’s brow carried a touch of concern, her eyes filled with warmth.
Emily smiled,
"Mom, with Carlos there, everything went smoothly."
Mrs. Carter slightly raised her eyebrows, her tone laced with teasing,
"If he doesn’t mess things up, that’s enough. Don’t imitate his temper; you should learn more from your father and the other department managers."
During the meal, Mrs. Carter saw that the interaction between the young couple was all normal and secretly sighed, agreeing with Maria that Emily and Carlos should spend more time together to enhance their relationship.
Evan Palmer sat at the other end of the dining table. Upon hearing Mrs. Carter’s sigh, he merely let out a cold snort.
"I don’t dare assume that role. Some people don’t even see me as the chairman."
He put down his tableware with a stiff motion, the utensils clinking lightly against the table.
"In a few days, it’s the inauguration ceremony for the new president,"
Mrs. Carter noticed Evan Palmer’s displeasure and casually changed the topic.
Mention of the new president instantly piqued Emily and Carlos’s interest.
Emily slightly raised her head, a hint of curiosity in her eyes, while Carlos furrowed his brows slightly, seemingly pondering something.
With many things happening recently and Emily being pregnant, she hadn’t paid much attention to changes in domestic political dynamics.
Nevertheless, she’d heard that Sinovia had recently elected a new president.
The ascension of this new president seemed to herald a shift in the political and economic landscape of the country.
Emily lightly pressed her lips,
"I heard the new president is quite young and... seems rather charismatic."
Carlos also put away his usual nonchalant demeanor, his eyes carrying a hint of caution,
"This new president indeed is quite remarkable. He comes from a civilian background, rose to prominence in the military as a war hero, and entered politics after his discharge.
His presidential inauguration ceremony is very grand, and reportedly, celebrities from all walks of life have been invited. Our family also received an invitation."
