Chapter 81: Chapter 81 Pink Daffodil.
“And any man would be a fool to know someone like her and allow her walk away, am I not right, Mr. Bryce?” Arvan asked in a care free manner, smiling and pocketing his hands at Gabriel’s obvious irritated expression.
Even without one knowing the subject of matter or the situation at hand, the tension hanging thick in the air, one that Arvan didn’t seem to be paying attention to and even if he is, he was doing a fine job at feigning indifference, was enough to spell everything out loud.
A few seconds had passed after Arvan’s words; seconds in which Gabriel held an intense eye contact with him, before he chuckled, lowering and nodding his head all the while.
“Indeed. You’re correct, Senator Richardson,” Looking up, he offered Arvan a smile, nearly as meaningful as his past one. “For once, it’s safe to say we’re Seeing Eye to eye.”
Like hell they were. Despite the smile on Gabriel’s lips, meaningful as it may look, Arvan was sure that the moment he turned around, the former male won’t hesitate to glare him to death... or perhaps even ambush him to death if given the chance.
And of course, he’s Gabriel Bryce, what’s a little death charge in the face of his money and power.
Annoying, arrogant and immoral as it sounded, Arvan was no different. Holy senator and all that would be put aside if need be.
The thick competitive atmosphere hanging between the two men was suddenly interrupted by the sound of a car door being closed with force.
“Oh you’ve got to be kidding me!”
Both their heads snapped in the direction of the high pitched voice, eyes narrowing at the sight of Anastasia and... Lloyd?
As if that wasn’t confusing enough, their cars which were almost butting heads, clearly heading for the same parking spot, worsened matters. And the way Lloyd was nonchalantly handling the situation wasn’t any better.
“Out of all the parking spots available, did it have to be this one?” Folding her arms across her chest, eyes gauging Lloyd from top to bottom, Anastasia questioned in a tone that almost suggested that the parking spot had been reserved specially for her.
“I don’t see any problem with parking here,” Lloyd replied, the teasing tone in his voice ever so present as he leaned against his car and equally seized Anastasia from top to bottom. White body-con gown paired with killer heels and her hair packed up in a ponytail exposing most of her neck. She was a piece of candy, one that had him smirking in a perverted manner at her. “Nice fit.”
“Keep your eyes to yourself playboy.” Anastasia sassed but didn’t make so much as an effort to reach for the jacket in her car or cover herself whatsoever from his eyes. Why should she though? Earlier today, before she had stepped out, her mind had already been made up with the dress. She knew people were going to stare and was more than ready for it. But stares from Lloyd, as expected as it was, the brief tingly sensations it sent around her body, was unexpected.
Shifting her weight onto other leg, she added. “And while you’re at it, move your junk of a car into another parking spot.”
“Junk?” Lloyd questioned with feigned innocence, taking a moment to examine his Aventador, then her Mercedes AMG and then chuckling. “Yeah right.”
He hadn’t said more than that, but oh had he said enough. Enough to have the wheels of fire spinning within Anastasia, ready to fire at any moment.
Thankfully that moment never came, because before either of them could have the chance to cause more of a scene than they already had, Ashley stepped in, jogging up to his godmother with an innocent intent to get a hug from her.
“Aunt Annie!” He exclaimed and as usual, threw himself into her arms.
Anastasia caught the kid with a grunt and a chuckle, taking a few steps back due to her choice of footwear. “Ah, look who’s here. It’s the birthday boy.” She gently ruffled his hair.
At this point, Ashley was tired of the damn bad habit his mother had taught his father and her friends. For Christ sake, stay away from the freaking hair!
“Happy birthday Ash,” Anastasia was saying as they separated and she pecked his forehead, catching movement from Lloyd’s end as he moved towards them. Ashley also saw this and his feature quickly brightened up, much more than Anastasia liked.
“Uncle Lloyd!” And in seconds, he was gone from her hold and into Lloyd’s arm. The older male caught him more efficiently this time around, sweeping him off the ground and turning him around in the air. Ashley giggled delightfully at the gesture.
Gently, he placed the child down, making sure to keep him in his hold just long enough until the dizziness wore off. “Hey there Birthday boy, how’s things going?”
“Great!” Ashley answered enthusiastically before pulling his hand out of the pocket he had dipped it into seconds ago. When he opened his closed fist, Lloyd’s brows went up at the sight of three airplane tickets. “Aunt Megan gave me these; she says I can use them with my mommy and daddy anytime I want!”
“That’s nice; would you like to know what your godfather got for you?”
“G-godfather? Sorry excuse me, who?” Anastasia cut in sharp before Ashley could give his answer. At her question, Lloyd remained silent. But his silence said more than enough. “You?!” She pointed at the squatting man. “You’re his godfather?”
“I don’t see any reason why I can’t be.” Came Lloyd’s nonchalant response as he rose to his full height.
Hearing this, Anastasia couldn’t resist the urge. Her face contorted in displeasure and she looked off to the side, tutting. “First Angelina and now him? Why does that damn Gabriel have such bad taste in people?” She muttered.
While the... slightly one sided squabble continued out in the parking space, Leonica leaned against a pillar and watched from the entrance, amused at the two’s banter.
‘Anastasia and Lloyd, who would have thought’ Chuckling at her own thought, the white-Ette felt a gentle tap on her shoulder and turned around, very much expecting one of her other guests, but much to her surprise, it wasn’t any of her guest nor friends, but someone unexpected even though she had expected his arrival.
“Owen?”
Said blonde gave a princely bow at his acknowledged presence but didn’t miss the opportunity present for a joke. “You seemed really invested right there,” he nudged his head in the parking space direction where, sadly Anastasia and Lloyd were still engrossed in their...argument? “Up to the point that you didn’t notice me approaching. Tell me,” He took a step forward, invading her private space. “Is their business was really that interesting, or is my charisma fading?”
Leonica chuckled at his question and antics altogether. “No, of course not. I was just... busy?” Even she questioned her choice of excuse. “But now, you have my full attention.” Just as she said, she turned her full focus on him, dulling out Anastasia and Lloyd and her roaming thoughts about Gabriel and with a smile, she said. “Welcome, Owen.”
Oh, now if that wasn’t enough to make Owen feel like he was the birthday boy, rather than Ashley, then he wasn’t sure what else could.
“Well, did you have something to tell me?” Leonica asked after he had stared seconds without uttering a single word.
Her words instantly snapped him out of his admiration trans, reminding of the real reason, well, one of the real reasons he had sort the blonde beauty out of the crowd of orcs.
“As a matter of fact, I did.” Reaching into the pocket of the suit he wore, Owen pulled out a black jewelry case and handed it to her. “This is for you.”
Leonica blinked confused at the object. “For me?”
“Yes. Your dress, it’s gorgeous, but truthfully, it lacks... a little something to highlight your natural beauty and that should more than do the trick.”
“Oh,” Leonica mused as she pulled the top open and stared at the pink diamond necklace inside. She wasn’t sure whether to be surprised over the fact that Owen had such a sweet mouth, or that he had gotten her a necklace in the shape of her favorite flower, in her favorite color.
And you know what they say; pink diamonds are lucky charms.
That and well, the misguiding stuff about romance Leonica really didn’t like thinking about.
But even at that, beautiful pink diamond, shaped in the imagery of a daffodil, luck and all that, Leonica couldn’t bring herself to accept the necklace, because just like every other girl, she was aware of how expensive this particular necklace is.
“This is nice Owen,” She began, earning a smile filled with the brim with delight from the said male, which soon crumbled at her next words. “But I can’t accept this.”
“What? Why?”
“It’s just...” She hesitated. “It’s Ashley’s birthday. Not mine.”
“Come of it, a child’s birthday should also be celebrated by the mother, after all, she had suffered for nine months and is finally seeing the labor of her work, am I right?”
And here she was again, confused. Owen was wrong, but in some way right.
“Come on Guseju, don’t give yourself any less credit than you deserve. You deserve this today just as much as you do on your birthday.” Owen insisted.
Now knowing the meaning of the name she was being addressed with, Leonica couldn’t help but smile. But that wasn’t the matter at hand, sure she had saved him from a mob of determined fans, but what did that have anything to do with him being so nice.
Why exactly was he being so nice? Leonica wondered and just as she was about to ask, the Herald announced.
“Announcing the arrival of Ms. Angelina Fernandez.”
