Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Restored as Before

Li Sihe’s phone rang, and whatever the person on the line said made the man’s expression change. He brushed off her arm and stood up, ready to leave.

Su Youxue simply couldn’t believe it.

In such an atmosphere, spurred by his initiative to visit her, and yet now, in the dead of night, he was leaving.

"Mr. Li!" Su Youxue hurried forward, hugging him from behind. Her voice took on a pleading tone, filled with tension: "It’s so late, will you still go? Is there something you need to take care of?"

Li Sihe merely pulled away her hands. He said, "You go to sleep, it’s late."

Su Youxue’s eyes reddened, a feeling akin to humiliation surged within her.

She stood rigidly in place, watching as Li Sihe left, feeling an emptiness inside.

She couldn’t understand Li Sihe’s feelings towards her.

If he cared, why would he never touch her?

If he didn’t care, why would he always come to see her?

As the door in front closed again, the hall returned to its calm.

Su Youxue stood alone, a sense of indescribable sorrow welled up inside her, and thereafter, like an onslaught, it overwhelmed her...

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Bian Yue watched the overflowing rain outside.

She had just rechecked the ledger left to her by Shi An’an and was still clueless.

Perhaps she was overthinking it; indeed, it seemed to be a flawless record of accounts.

Shen Jinci, unaware of when he had arrived by her side, held a blanket in his hands, naturally draping it around her, his tone conveying shallow, indifferent concern. He said, "I’ve notified the Li Family. Tomorrow I’ll accompany you back to deal with your parents’ inheritance."

Bian Yue was taken aback, reined in her emotions, and turned to look at him.

Under the light, the man’s eyes held an indecipherable darkness.

Suddenly, Bian Yue felt intrigued. She looked at him and said: "Shen Jinci, are you... are you afraid that if I get the inheritance, I’ll divorce you?"

The question was sharp, yet Shen Jinci’s expression remained unchanged, still so composed.

He lowered his eyes, with a hint of a smile spreading, he asked, "Is that a serious question?"

Bian Yue replied, "Let’s take it as a serious question then."

Shen Jinci directed Bian Yue’s gaze to the rain outside the window.

Nothing special, just the usual rainy season in Xiangjiang.

Bian Yue said the same, "It’s just a regular rainy day."

"Yueyue, the rainy season hasn’t stopped yet." He hesitated for a moment, gently embracing her, with a certain conviction, his voice was low and husky, "You will need me."

He held her, with a possessiveness that could not be voiced, slowly tightening his arms. The reflection on the floor-to-ceiling window showed the image of their tight embrace.

Bian Yue felt Shen Jinci’s kiss on her ear, cool, bringing a shiver.

He said, "I know you won’t, at least, not now."

Bian Yue thought, what Shen Jinci was betting on wasn’t her love, but her principles of conduct.

He was not a man led by sentiment; he was rational enough.

His seeming loss of control was simply because he truly cared.

Meanwhile, at the Li Family.

Li Tingmo was in the study waiting for Li Sihe. Upon seeing the latter arrive, he snorted coldly, "I heard you’ve taken in a little starlet again? Li Sihe, I don’t care what you do out there, just don’t bring back any children!"

Li Sihe frowned in annoyance, sat down on a sofa to the side. His fleeting look of disgust quickly returned to calm. He lowered his eyes, his emotions steady, "When did Shen Jinci’s assistant call?"

"Not long ago," Li Tingmo said sternly, "In any case, we just can’t let this inheritance slip out of our hands so easily. Otherwise, wouldn’t all the years of effort the Li Family spent on Bian Yue become worthless?"

"The effort the Li Family spent on Bian Yue?" Li Sihe repeated these words with a cold touch in his voice. He slowly said, "Over the years, aside from me, who else in the Li Family has taken care of Bian Yue? Now you keep talking about effort; are you trying to prove that Bian Yue owes the Li Family? Dad, she doesn’t owe you anything."

"Li Sihe! Bian Yue is already married!" Li Tingmo was furious, reprimanding him as he looked at Li Sihe’s uncompromising demeanor: "What you should be doing now is considering this matter from the Li Family’s perspective and how to deal with it."

Li Sihe closed his eyes, in long silence. Suddenly, he laughed.

This laughter clearly pained Li Tingmo, who looked at him unable to restrain his anger, and said in a deep voice: "What are you laughing at!"

"Nothing..." Li Sihe sighed lightly, his graceful features calm as water. He opened his eyes and looked slowly at Li Tingmo, "Dad, thanks to you, your son might never be able to truly smile in this lifetime."

Li Tingmo was stunned, momentarily guilt-stricken, but it was quickly replaced by the looming issues at hand. He said assertively, "I don’t care what you think, just remember you’re a member of the Li Family. This time, Bian Yue cannot take the inheritance from the Li Family, and you, you need to cooperate with me."

Li Sihe nodded, too tired to argue. He said, "It’s late, I’m going to rest."

Having said this, he stood up to leave.

Li Tingmo understood that in just two short years, their father-son relationship had developed serious cracks.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to repair it, but one always has to make choices—the things Li Sihe wanted were exactly what Li Tingmo was unwilling to give.

So he spoke in a weighed down tone, his voice suppressed, "Li Sihe, I’ve also sacrificed a lot for the Li Family. It’s our fate; you need to learn to accept it."

As if to say, he too was burdened with hidden hardships, and now it was also time for him to face tough decisions.

But Li Sihe was not moved. Instead, the sarcasm in his eyes intensified. Accept it? He had learned to accept things much earlier.

"Dad," Li Sihe didn’t turn around, he respectfully called out to Li Tingmo, his voice devoid of any emotion, neutral and distant: "I’m your son, I was born knowing how to gauge the situation. So rest assured, when it comes to acceptance, I understand it better than you do."

After Li Sihe finished speaking, he didn’t wait for Li Tingmo to respond and left with big strides.

Outside the study, the butler stood by, and seeing Li Sihe come out, quickly followed, saying, "Young Master, I’ve contacted the person in charge at Swiss Bank as the master instructed. They will bring in professionals for the inheritance transfer procedures."

"If father has made arrangements, there’s no need to tell me." Li Sihe furrowed his brow, his voice stern, "How is Bian Yue’s room?"

"It was severely damaged in the last fire. I’ve brought in specialists for the repairs, but many things inside can’t be restored to their original state."

Restored to their original state.

Those words were always a luxury to hope for.

Li Sihe’s steps slowed, he looked to the butler beside him, his brow furrowed, his voice chilled, "From now on, no one is allowed to enter that room."

"Isn’t Miss Bian coming back with Shen Jinci tomorrow? Won’t... won’t they stay here?" asked the butler, puzzled.
