Chapter 67: Chapter 66: Despair Cycle and Divine Half-Elf
"Third Wing Pillar·Medusa·Wing Shatter!"
"Fourth Wing Pillar·Medusa·Wing Shatter!"
"Fourth Wing Pillar·Medusa·Wing Shatter!"
"Third Wing Pillar·Medusa·Wing Shatter!"
"Fi..."
"..."
Wenresa Iluvita sat atop the tallest building in the Gorgon Territory, right above the Gorgon’s leader’s mansion. From there, she observed Yila, who kept repeating the *trigger*.
Repeating similar phrases over and over, it should seem ridiculous and laughable, but in reality... whether watching or actually facing Yila, no one could laugh.
"Such a despairingly powerful force."
Wenresa Iluvita commented, engrossed. She looked at the petrifying beams and petrification sword energy that filled the battlefield... No, what Yila fired was not simply petrification beams.
From his Third Wing Pillar, what he used was nearly continuous streams of petrification beams in front of him, almost forming Petrification Light Columns.
And when Yila chanted for the Fourth Wing Pillar, it became a blade capable of slashing out enormous petrification sword energy... even Gorgons with petrification resistance turned to stone.
Yila used the Gorgon’s power to slaughter swaths of Gorgons, wantonly expending Mana, shattering the absorbed wings without hesitation, killing new Gorgons with that power.
Then he absorbed the Mana scattered from the newly dead Gorgons, condensing into new wings.
Perhaps this was the terrifying aspect of the Governor. To kill a Governor... one either had to block their ability to absorb wings, be so powerful they couldn’t recover, or drag the fight until the world spells were exhausted, or break the Governor’s neck.
It was similar for any profession; if they were silenced and could not speak, they couldn’t trigger their skills with words... even warriors, if they couldn’t shout "Ha!", could not use their battle skills.
But Governors even bypassed this... A Governor’s Wing Spread had a continuous effect. In other words, once Wing Spread was activated, during the manifestation of the wings, it wouldn’t be affected by silence.
However, Wenresa Iluvita also noticed the greatest weakness of Yila’s engineered Governor profession... the neck, or rather the spine at the neck.
If that was broken, the Governor couldn’t call upon the Wing Pillars.
But if it reached that point, victory would be within grasp.
More commonly, the Governor would stand on the battlefield, bringing despair and fear, repeatedly chanting the trigger words, spreading death and panic.
"Hmm, if I’m not mistaken..."
Wenresa Iluvita pondered, gazing at the world spell on Yila’s neck, mumbling to herself, "It’s from the World Tree’s branch, isn’t it? Which one...? How did he get it?"
The Elves of the Silver Moon Tree Court guarded the World Tree; how could a human like Yila get close to the World Tree, let alone observe or steal a branch?
Remember, Yila’s Governor had deliberate restrictions against using human Mana as ammunition, but almost no other limitations, meaning...
If a Governor appeared on an Elf battlefield, the Elf Clan too would fall into a virtually unsolvable Despair Cycle, unless the corresponding branch of the World Tree was destroyed or severed.
"It’s time to return to the Elf Clan. I wonder who the current Elf Empress is..."
Wenresa Iluvita said softly. She glanced at the nearly finished battlefield, looked at the sky, calculated the time, and sighed, "Forty minutes, and the massacre is over."
"There’s no need to watch anymore."
Wenresa watched as the Gorgons turned to stone and then gradually disintegrated into corpses. She smelled the blood that began to permeate the air, and her body gradually faded and disappeared.
"A city destroyed by one person, indeed."
With such a sigh, Wenresa Iluvita gave Yila one last deep look before leaving. From this period of observation, she could tell that the so-called Governor was closely tied to a certain emotion.
Perhaps it had intricate connections with a branch of the World Tree.
She could sense that there was an even more outrageous potential for something called the Governor, and Yila seemed to be aware of this, but he hadn’t acted on it.
It seemed they called it—
"Mutation... or..."
In the instant before disappearing, Wenresa Iluvita still stared fixedly in Yila’s direction...
"Evolution?"
——————————
"Mr. Yila... you’ve annihilated the Medusas."
Satan Ye sighed, looking at the rivers of blood in the Gorgon Territory, then at the fervent expressions on her side’s troops. It was truly... incredibly powerful.
Yila’s ruthless slaughter gave an invincible impression... easily dodging all attacks, every casual counterattack causing massive enemy losses.
This was an insurmountable strength.
But Yila did not respond; he just stared in one direction...
"Mr. Yila? Over there... huh? It looks like a ship is about to leave. By the way, the sea demons haven’t shown up yet."
"..."
"Mr. Yila?!"
At Satan Ye’s call, Yila finally turned his head, came back to his senses, looked at the puzzled Satan Ye, and said, "You organize the resource recovery plan. There’s something I need to check on."
With that, Yila flew to the highest building in the Gorgon Territory, leaving a bewildered Satan Ye... But she didn’t need to organize anything; everyone had already begun spontaneously collecting corpses and souls along the way.
"..."
Yila stood atop the leader’s mansion... His intuition was not wrong; there was indeed a high-ranking presence watching him, and that presence was extremely dangerous.
It was unclear if it was one of those who had observed him taking the World Tree Branch, but undoubtedly... he was under intense, prolonged scrutiny.
As mentioned before, barring certain conditions, Yila’s combat power in this world was Tier 1 or even Tier 0. But this statement required excluding certain *extraneous* beings.
Those beings, who should not meddle in Main Plane affairs, were entities that neither Yila nor anyone else could handle.
And one such being had just been in front of Yila.
"Divine Half-Elf."
