Chapter 44: Chapter 43 Might Be a Free Purchase
As the mana from the Mechanical Body filled his wing column, Yila finally managed to gather four Monster Mana and returned to the stance of the strongest Governor... although there were some mana he didn’t particularly like to use.
Every Governor had their preferred combination of Monster Mana, and it was evident Yila rarely used Succubus Mana in battle; it was also his first time obtaining mana from a Mechanical Body.
With only the Crimson Dragon’s mana, as long as he filled the first wing column (core) with it, he would be among the world’s top tier (T1) in combat strength.
But if he used his best combination in all four wing columns and fought in an area with numerous non-human adversaries, his combat power might even reach the highest tier (T0).
This was what it meant to be a Governor, this was Yila.
"First wing column, Iron Demon Statue, wing spread!"
Yila walked on the path back to the Demon King Territory, trying to use the mana of that Mechanical Leader... mana on his back formed sci-fi wings with a metallic sheen.
His flesh started to take on a metallic quality.
Yila poked his hardened body and shook his head, realizing he shouldn’t use the Iron Demon Statue as the core wing column; he should have known from the sluggish feel when he filled the corresponding wing column.
The second wing column (mobility-related) and the third wing column (long-range attack) did not resonate well with the Iron Demon Statue’s mana.
"Fourth wing column, Iron Demon Statue, wing spread!"
With the trigger of his words, the mana that had been active in the first wing column shifted to the fourth wing column, and identical, though differently positioned, wings spread out in an instant.
Silvery-gray mana gathered in Yila’s hand, forming a single-handed axe gleaming with a cold light... an axe? This was a weapon Yila rarely used, but it seemed this wasn’t an axe for slashing.
The hollow center and the specific arc of the handle signified—this was a throwing axe.
"Ha, first time using a long-range attack manifested from the fourth wing column."
Yila muttered to himself as his thoughts shifted, the axe in his hand and the wings on his back turned into silvery-gray mana and dissipated into the air... Had the Empire misunderstood him all along?
*Perhaps the third and fourth wing columns weren’t "long-range" and "melee" but "magic firing" and "weapon manifesting"?*
*The only way to prove this might be to kill an Elf and use its mana in the fourth wing column; if a "bow and arrow" appeared, that would confirm the latter as correct.*
"Little Ti?"
Yila saw Tipcapu appear behind him due to his call and asked casually, "Where is that ghost lady now? I need to ask her about the ships."
"..."
Tipcapu, kneeling on one knee, raised his head in confusion, then stood up, brushing dust from his clothes as he quickly caught up with Yila, saying, "If I’m not mistaken, she should be in the study."
The study? Speaking of which... Isabella also liked to stay in the... no, don’t think about her.
Yila lightly shook his head, turned to look at Tipcapu, and brushed some leaves off Tipcapu’s head from kneeling earlier, saying, "Take me there, we shouldn’t disturb her, right?"
"..."
Tipcapu appeared calm, shaking his head as his tail rapidly flicked against his legs, responding, "No, she’s probably organizing previous trade reports."
That’s work, isn’t it? My visit will likely disturb her!
*Despite thinking this, Yila still headed to the study... How to put it? It couldn’t compare to the Empire’s grand, library-like study; this was more of a "family study" kind of place.*
The study door wasn’t locked. The ethereal Ghost Glasses Girl sat at a desk, constantly jotting down notes, surrounded by all sorts of documents.
Tipcapu, not in the habit of interrupting others’ conversations, simply nodded to Yila and left... probably off to the training grounds for more practice.
"..."
The ghost was so focused on her work she hadn’t noticed Yila’s arrival, and as Yila didn’t view the ship procurement as urgent, he silently waited for her to finish.
After a long time, the Ghost Glasses Girl finally raised her head for a brief break and saw Yila waiting at the door. She paused, then stood to greet, "Mr. Yila? Sorry to keep you waiting."
"I just arrived not too long ago."
Saying so, Yila followed the Ghost Glasses Girl into the study, inhaled the scent of books, and sat opposite her. He directly stated his purpose, "I’m here to discuss the construction of the fishing port."
With that, the Ghost Glasses Girl immediately understood Yila’s question. She gently adjusted her glasses, saying, "Is it about the ships?"
Seeing the overall grayish-white Ghost Glasses Girl, Yila lightly nodded.
"I was planning to ask everyone’s opinion in tomorrow’s meeting, but since you’re here, let’s decide now..."
Listening to the Ghost Glasses Girl, Yila, who felt it was unwise to bypass Satan Ye for decisions, twitched his mouth but tried to adapt to the Demon King Territory’s ways, nodding wordlessly.
"First, let’s rule out purchasing ships from the Empire."
The Ghost Glasses Girl stated, and Yila agreed, nodding. He skipped over the "which country to buy ships from" issue, declaring, "Buying ships from other countries is out of the question."
"Hmm, as I thought. So that leaves purchasing fishing boats from other territories under the Demon King. But in that case, we might be able to hold off for now," she said, calculating the timing. "Winter is ending soon; if the territories have no intention to realign, we won’t need to spend silver coins to buy ships from them."
"..."
Tributes from various territories, what the Empire and other human nations would call "taxes," were funds sent to them. Purchasing ships would thus require buying from other territories.
*But if they haven’t restored their tributes...*
It would be genuine "betrayal."
