Chapter 197: Chapter 65 Corruption

That was a story from a long time ago. No... Although it seemed like ages to humans, to the Elves, an immortal species, it felt like just yesterday.

Long-lived races always had a strange perception of time. They would forget things they deemed unimportant and take ages to recall them, even if they happened just yesterday. Yet they could remember trivial matters spanning over centuries...

As long as they thought those were important.

But the matters related to corruption and the ensuing rebellion of the Elder Council were things they would always remember. The efforts Yila put into dealing with it were also unforgettable.

Back then, the Silver Moon Tree Court still had an Elder Council. The Elves would heed both Cassiopeia and the Elder Council’s opinions. However, since there were never any administrative matters to handle in the Silver Moon Tree Court, no one really paid attention to them.

Until the emergence of the Corrupted Land.

...

At some point, black swamps started to appear in the forests of the Silver Moon Tree Court. It took considerable effort to get out once one fell in. Elves who spent too much time nearby would feel entirely drained of energy.

Near those swamps, plants and animals would undergo mutations; the former would develop organs capable of killing other flora and fauna, and the latter would become highly aggressive.

They would wander aimlessly, attacking anything that moved without discrimination.

These swamps were called Corrupted Land. Over time, the number and size of these corrupted areas gradually increased, as did the number of dangerous plants and animals.

If not handled properly, it could lead to a crisis threatening the very existence of their race.

...

"What’s this got to do with the Elder Council? And Mr. Yila?"

Satan Ye blinked her eyes and asked. She looked at Cassiopeia, who was slowly recounting the past. She had to admit that Cassiopeia wasn’t a great storyteller, often jumping from one topic to another... basically saying whatever came to mind.

"Ah, I studied with the Elder Council for a while, but we were at a loss about how to clear the Corrupted Land since the Council had already been corrupted. This was when Yila and your father arrived at the Silver Moon Tree Court."

Cassiopeia started talking about the Elder Council but quickly switched to speaking about Yila. She said, "Yila came to the Silver Moon Tree Court because he wanted to see the World Tree. He said the World Tree seemed to be calling him."

"Your father heard that my father was very strong and came to challenge him. But when things were almost settled, he said he had something to do and left before they could fight."

"..."

What was that all about?

Cassiopeia noticed the puzzled looks from everyone. Knowing she wasn’t making much sense, she awkwardly smiled and explained, "The World Tree is very noble, and so is my father. He shouldn’t have agreed to their terms, but..."

"Given the special circumstances, I desperately asked Yila and your father for help. They agreed to our conditions and had to solve the issue of the Corrupted Land first."

"What followed was both simple and complex..."

...

Yila and Favignano stayed in the Silver Moon Tree Court for a while. During this time, they spent most of their days investigating the forest, bickering and teasing each other throughout. Then they discovered an error in the information provided by the Silver Moon Tree Court.

The Corrupted Land did indeed corrupt animals and plants. However, not all animals were corrupted by the Corrupted Land. In fact, there was an animal similar to an anteater that was the actual culprit behind creating the Corrupted Land.

Their purple excrement would gradually transform the land into Corrupted Land. However, this process wasn’t permanent; they needed to refresh the excrement regularly to maintain the corrupted area.

This type of Magic Beast was supposed to be very well hidden, evading all searches by the Silver Moon Tree Court. However, because they had traces of the Dragon Bloodline, Favignano eventually found them.

After reporting back to the Silver Moon Tree Court, they launched a large-scale effort to surround and clear out the beasts they named Corrupted Demon. However, the number of Corrupted Demons never seemed to decrease.

During one clearing operation, they witnessed an Elf feeding a small, harmless Magic Beast some purple-black blood, turning it into a Corrupted Demon. At that moment, they were ambushed by unknown Elves.

After killing their attackers and returning to the Silver Moon Tree Court, they found themselves accused of attacking Elves. Luckily, by then, they had become close with Cassiopeia, who protected them.

They confirmed that some Elves had been corrupted. During an assault on Cassiopeia, Yila captured the attacker, showing all Elves the purple-black blood belonging to an Elder Council member. This successfully cleared their names.

They then began to audit all Elves... The corrupted Elves, including all Elder Council members and some others, realizing they could no longer hide, formally rebelled.

"Ahem, ahem..."

Reaching the critical part of the story, Cassiopeia cleared her throat, took a sip of tea, seemingly parched from talking so much, and said, "Don’t be in such a hurry. Hold on."

But how could the others not be anxious? Stopping at such a point was really frustrating. In novels, this sudden break would be called a cliffhanger, and people would be furious (Wait, no!).

"After that, Favignano had to leave for something, and Yila used Blood Magic to suppress the rebellion, eventually resolving the corruption crisis... Listening to it like this, it doesn’t sound all that impressive, does it?"

Cassiopeia said this with a smile, recalling fondly, "But since then, everyone in the Silver Moon Tree Court came to revere Yila because he was our Savior. If you had experienced it, you would understand."

No, just hearing it felt impressive enough.

Everyone thought this and couldn’t help but think of those children who revered Yila like a god after being freed from slavery. They could fully understand the thoughts of the Elves.

However, Cassiopeia’s story wasn’t over...

"Afterward, I took Yila to see the World Tree, watching as he carved the World Spell, which was inscribed onto his soul, onto his neck and became the Governor. Then we sat on the finest tree branches, listening to him talk about his past experiences."

Cassiopeia showed a reminiscent look... At that very moment, she silently vowed—She would never be a minor, insignificant character in Yila’s life.

Satan Ye: "Oh, wow! Incredible!"

The Sea Demons: "So, that’s how Yila became the Governor?"

Hilena: "..."

Hilena, due to her profession as a Succubus, sensed that... Something seemed off about Cassiopeia’s attitude.

Hilena: Lord Yila, you truly are a sinful man.
