Chapter 573: Chapter 563: Unique Intimacy, A Warning to Others
The three beams of light projected from above were sweeping chaotically through the bustling crowd below.
Most people were silently praying that the final beam would land on them.
It was a rare chance to meet an idol face-to-face and possibly even shake hands, just thinking about it was exciting.
Only a few people with social anxiety feared being spotlighted and quietly lowered their heads.
Jiang Lingxi’s eyes followed the movement of the beams; she was responsible for calling the stop.
Her gaze gently swept over hundreds of eyes that all pleaded "choose me" until she suddenly met a pair of familiar doe eyes and abruptly paused.
Seeing Xu Ling’an’s high-raised right hand, she subtly curved her lips.
She remembered this girl being a bit socially anxious; it seemed that since going to university, she had become much more outgoing, to the point of daring to raise her hand at an event like this.
Naturally, she wanted to fulfill this girl’s wish as much as possible.
So, just as the light beam was about to sweep past Xu Ling’an’s head again, Jiang Lingxi seized the moment, "Stop!"
The three swiftly moving beams quickly halted, settling over the heads of three lucky audience members.
The three people blessed with ’luck’ received envious glances from those around them, looked up at the beams above their heads, and couldn’t wait to go on stage.
Xu Ling’an’s two roommates were quite surprised.
They arrived halfway through the event and were standing at the very back, never expecting to be chosen as lucky audience members.
Yet the youngest among them became one of the three lucky ones after all.
"An’an, hurry, I see the other two are getting ready to go on stage, you should go up too."
"We’ll take pictures of you from below!"
Xu Ling’an was still in a daze, uncertain whether her sister specifically chose her, or if she was just this lucky.
After a push from her roommate brought her back to reality, she took a deep breath and walked towards the stage through the isolated passageway, surrounded by envious glances.
Once the three lucky girls reached the stage, they stood side by side under the host’s direction, their faces tinged with excited yet nervous blush.
After receiving the microphone, they began with simple self-introductions.
When it was Xu Ling’an’s turn, her two friends below were worried their youngest might be too nervous to speak, but once she got the microphone and opened her mouth, they relaxed instantly.
"Our youngest seems even steadier than the first two."
"Absolutely, you see the first two were so excited they stuttered when greeting Jiang Lingxi, while our youngest called her sister much more naturally."
"Wow, Jiang Lingxi even patted our youngest’s head!"
The two girls on stage saw their idol pat the last person’s head with some envy but didn’t think much of it, guessing it might be because of the closer proximity.
Tong Yue and Lu Zhengzheng, staying backstage, knew it wasn’t at all the case, it was purely because their artist wanted to pat her.
However, they didn’t expect that Xu Ling’an had mixed into the fan crowd below. Lu Zhengzheng, holding the lunch menu in hand, said, "Sister Tong, should we add an extra spot to the lunch list?"
"Add it," Tong Yue nodded with less than a second’s hesitation, "it’s rare for the sisters to meet up, and there are no outsiders during lunch, they might as well eat together."
Lu Zhengzheng efficiently started arranging the adjustments.
While Jiang Lingxi was interacting with the three lucky audience members in a game on stage, elsewhere in the police station.
Han Dashan looked with despair at the high-concentration alcohol purchase record placed before him and the autopsy report of his father, slumped hopelessly in the interrogation chair.
He outright denied being a murderer, and when he bitterly intended to take action last night, the only method he came up with was to mix high-concentration alcohol into the drinking spirits.
It would’ve been fine if no one had suspected it, even the doctors were just focused on saving people last night without noticing whether the wine on the resuscitation table had alcohol mixed in or not.
But once suspicion was raised, the evidence was all too easy to find.
The payment records on his phone were still there, the pharmacy had surveillance footage of him buying alcohol, the used alcohol bottle was hidden under his bed with his fingerprints—these pieces of evidence were enough to nail him.
"Talk about it, why did you kill your biological father?"
The interrogating officer had a direction in mind but still needed the person in front of him to confess verbally.
However, Han Dashan seemed as if his soul had drifted out of his body, giving no reaction at all.
Until the table was slammed loudly, almost jerking his soul back, "Han Dashan, confess honestly!"
"I hate my dad! I’ve been scolded since I was a kid, would be reprimanded at the drop of a hat, and now at over thirty, I still haven’t gotten a wife, all because his reputation back home was rotten to the core, no one wanted to marry me. Shouldn’t I hate him? He ruined my life!"
The interrogating officer: "..."
He could see that Han Dashan’s hatred was genuine. Having such a father really was worse than having none, but even so, murdering was not justifiable.
There had to be more than just this reason.
"Haven’t you considered that some of it might be your own doing? Your sister, Han Jiaojiao, was probably in a worse situation than you at home, yet she chose to break away and work hard, while you chose to kill the biological father who was dragging you down?"
Listening to these words that almost tore away his cover, Han Dashan instinctively lowered his head to hide the shame on his face.
Another person entered the interrogation room, "Stop beating around the bush and just admit to the murder motive. You didn’t start hating your father just last night. What exactly pushed you to make up your mind to kill, or was there someone who purposely incited and provoked you before this?"
The last sentence caused Han Dashan’s spine to stiffen abruptly.
He instinctively raised his head and met a pair of eyes that seemed to see through everything.
At that instant, he felt completely seen through, and any thought of luck disappeared from his heart.
"Yesterday, yesterday evening, I shook off Pei Xinyuan and went to meet someone..."
A few minutes later, a crumpled anonymous check lay on the interrogation room table.
"Get someone over there now, summon Bai Shengyu and his assistant!"
*
After the event, Jiang Lingxi returned backstage, accepted the phone handed over by Tong Yue, and was about to send Xu Ling’an a message when she saw one from Shen Yunqing fifteen minutes earlier.
[Bai Shengyu has been summoned, everything is going smoothly for now.]
Being summoned and being arrested are still different; summoning signifies that the person is only a suspect and not yet convicted.
Also, finding a scapegoat for Bai Shengyu and even for the Bai Family he belonged to wouldn’t be too difficult, especially since the Bai Family kept a group of skillful lawyers.
However, fortunately, neither Jiang Lingxi nor Shen Yunqing had intended to only rely on a charge of inciting murder to completely pin down Bai Shengyu.
From the start, they planned to, as the saying goes, "knock the mountain to shake the tiger, attack in the east to create a diversion."
