Chapter 503: Chapter 494: Black Pond

"Be careful, sir!"

The moment of weightlessness hit, and even Yin Chong experienced a brief blank mind.

But he quickly regained his composure, bending his knees and twisting his body as he landed, rolling on the spot to absorb the impact, and stood up steadily.

He saw Luan Hua supporting Luan Feng, and the others were fine too, at least no missing limbs.

Except for Lian Lian and Li Yan, who had fallen first and lay on a large rock not far away, their fate unknown.

"Everyone all right?"

Receiving unanimous nods, he didn’t ask further and began to observe the surroundings with the light that had already been turned on.

They were in what seemed like an artificially excavated pool. The pool was quite large, but the water was not deep, reaching only to the knees when standing.

However, the water looked somewhat physiologically uncomfortable, appearing black at a glance, with a peculiar and unpleasant smell.

"Let’s get out first."

Luan Hua helped his brother, who had accidentally twisted his ankle, up onto the bank and then looked back at the two still lying motionless on the rock, "Sir, what about them?"

Yin Chong had already crawled ashore, planning to change clothes, and responded casually, "Still alive?"

"...No, just fainted."

"Lucky them, drag them up first."

Luan Hua had just dragged the still-fainted Lian Lian and Li Yan ashore when he heard several splashes behind him.

Turning around, he saw Chong Shi and his followers tumbling into the pool.

"Lord Chong Shi!"

Chong Shi wiped the weird-smelling black water off his face and stood up, meeting Yin Chong’s gaze from the poolside.

He opened his throat stubbornly, "I, I was just worried about you all; we’re comrades in the end. Pah, what is this water? It stinks!"

"Come up first, it’s better to be cautious in this place."

Chong Shi climbed ashore and urgently asked, "When I returned, I saw four bodies. What happened? What did you encounter?"

Yin Chong pursed his lips and remained silent.

Luan Hua spoke up, "We previously thought we had killed and buried those monsters, but they weren’t actually dead. When we returned to the shore, we were ambushed by them in revenge, losing four people and injuring quite a few before driving them off."

Chong Shi’s eyes widened even more, "They weren’t dead!"

"Their physiological structure was somewhat unexpected," Yin Chong said lightly, taking off his coat, "When they ambushed us, I noticed the previous wounds on them had disappeared."

"Healed so quickly? How is that possible?" Chong Shi instinctively refused to believe it. He had also dealt heavy blows back then, and the idea that they were neither dead nor healed felt unreal.

"By the way, didn’t you keep one for research?"

Yin Chong paused before saying, "I didn’t manage to when we were attacked, it escaped."

Normally, seeing Yin Chong in such a situation, Chong Shi wouldn’t resist cracking a joke at his expense.

But now, he wasn’t in the mood.

"We don’t even know what attacked us, and this place, wait, is this a grand hall?"

"Obviously."

"Then what we fell into was a bathing pool?"

Yin Chong left him with his back, going into the tent to change clothes that had just been set up.

The rest didn’t linger either, given how uncomfortable the sticky clothes were, not to mention they crawled out of that strangely scented black water.

One by one, they all found a concealed place to change clothes.

When Lian Lian and Li Yan woke up from unconsciousness, they coughed up a mouthful of black water, finally regaining awareness to find themselves in a new environment.

Thankfully, the light was nearby on a rock, and there were sounds of rustling activity, indicating others were present.

"Where is this now?"

Li Yan didn’t hear Lian Lian’s murmuring and saw the black pool not far ahead when he sat up.

Under the illumination of the lights, he vaguely noticed something seemed to be slowly swimming at the bottom of the pool.

But after blinking his eyes and looking again, he saw only darkness, making him think it was just his imagination.

"You’re awake?"

Lian Lian turned her head sharply, "Luan, Luan Hua."

Luan Hua squatted down in front of her, lightly patting her face, "Since you’ve survived, behave. The two lords aren’t in a good mood, be careful not to upset them."

Lian Lian’s shoulders trembled, and she nodded quickly.

Li Yan, though unable to hear, mimicked Lian Lian’s nodding.

Luan Hua stood up, took some food from his backpack, tossed it to them, and also tore open an energy bar, gnawing on it while exploring other parts of the grand hall with the others.

Lian Lian and Li Yan devoured the food hungrily, silently thankful to have survived another day.

Seeing Yin Chong appear, they immediately held their breaths in trepidation.

When they saw Yin Chong approach the pool and peer into it, Li Yan moved his mouth, wanting to report his earlier discovery. Afraid it was just his imagination, he hesitated and ultimately said nothing.

Soon, the others who had explored different parts of the hall returned to report.

"No anomalies."

"Couldn’t find another exit."

"No trace of the monsters encountered earlier."

...

Yin Chong listened while looking up at the pool’s ceiling,

seeing a hole about one and a half meters in diameter, the very hole they all fell through.

Given the force that not even he could resist when they fell, trying to return the same way was like chasing a pipe dream.

Looking around, even Chong Shi showed signs of fatigue, let alone the others.

"Alright, let’s eat something and rest for a few hours, then resume searching. There must be an exit, we just haven’t found it yet."

Finally receiving the order to rest, everyone, except for those on watch, filled their stomachs and fell asleep almost immediately.

Lian Lian and Li Yan also didn’t last long, curling up on the ground and dozing off in no time.

The grand hall gradually quieted down.

Listening to the lulling snores around, the night watchmen considerately dimmed the lights and saw a shadow quickly flicker before their eyes, instinctively gripping their weapons and heightening their alertness.

But after waiting a while, there was no unusual noise, not to mention any shadows.

Seemed like they were over-nervous, leading to paranoia.

Two hours later, the shift changed.

"No abnormalities before, right?"

"...None."

"That’s good, get some sleep quickly."

Two hours of rest before being woken up, their spirits were noticeably better.

The newly appointed night watchman carried a flashlight to patrol around the hall, and upon returning to the original position, he keenly heard bubbling sounds coming from the pool in the hall’s center.

He halted, gazing intently towards the pool for a few seconds before cautiously walking towards it...
