After Being Blackened All Over the Internet, I Ruled the Military Variety Shows -
Chapter 450 - 441: The Woman My Cousin Likes
Chapter 450: Chapter 441: The Woman My Cousin Likes
Jiang Wenhu had just placed dinner on the table when she saw Jiang Runcheng, who had been sitting on the living room sofa, stand up to leave after a phone call. She quickly called out to him.
"It’s dinner time and you’re going out?"
Jiang Runcheng didn’t even turn his head, just waved his hand, "I have something important to discuss with Old Liu in person. Eat by yourself, don’t wait for me."
"Old Liu, Old Liu, it’s always Old Liu on your lips every day. Someone might think you’re discussing state affairs."
Before Jiang Wenhu could finish her complaint, the door closed with a snap.
"None of them ever stay home, what’s the point of making dinner?"
Taking the still unused dishes back to the kitchen, Jiang Wenhu reluctantly ate half a bowl of rice, put the leftover food in the refrigerator, and sat down on the living room sofa.
She thought about calling her daughter to vent, but worried she’d interrupt her daughter’s dinner, so she picked up the TV remote and switched the channel to the national station.
Waiting for the second episode of "Inheritance of Calligraphy and Painting" to air.
At least she could watch her daughter and son-in-law on the show.
*
Jiang Lingxi’s car stopped at the hotel’s back entrance.
With the airing of "Inheritance of Calligraphy and Painting," and that morning Lu Zhengzheng noticed the program had quietly climbed the trending list overnight.
It seems more people were paying attention and discussing this program than they had imagined.
To be safe, this less crowded back entrance was quieter and safer than the bustling front entrance.
Shen Chuyue volunteered to come down to pick her up, and when she saw the figure preparing to get out of the car as the door opened, she quickly stepped forward and greeted her with a smooth "Cousin-in-law," "We’ve finally met!"
Jiang Lingxi looked at the hand reaching to support her, paused, and then lightly placed her hand on it, releasing it once she was stable, "Chuyue."
"Yes," Shen Chuyue replied with a bright smile, quickly appraising her up close, and meeting the eyes looking back at her, "I see Cousin-in-law is in great shape, my cousin can rest assured now."
Though she’d never stayed in the desert, she could imagine the conditions there couldn’t be too good, let alone for a delicate actress like her cousin-in-law, surely it must have been quite strenuous to shoot there.
She had expected to see a beauty weathered and tired by the sand and wind, but the person standing before her had no such weariness, instead exuding a beauty tempered by the elements.
Truly refreshing!
At the mention of Shen Yunqing, Jiang Lingxi’s expression softened, "Did you come with your cousin’s mission to see me?"
"Yes, as soon as I arrived in Liangchuan, my cousin called and asked me to check if you needed anything, in case Yun Jie hadn’t mentioned you’d be here for the show, I would’ve headed to the desert in a couple of days. Besides, I’m very curious about you."
After all, the woman who won her cousin’s heart was beyond anyone in the Shen Family’s guesswork, until they met her in person.
"I’m not lacking anything, assure him everything’s fine."
"Absolutely, I’ll relay it."
Once Lu Zhengzheng and Changning had gotten out, Huzi drove the car away.
"Lu Zhengzheng, Changning, they’re both my assistants."
"Hello," Shen Chuyue smiled and nodded to them, then led the way, "Yun Jie and Yun Yi are waiting at a private room in the hotel’s second-floor Chinese restaurant, shall we have dinner first?"
"Sure."
In the private room.
As Yun Yi considered standing up for the third time, Yun Chan put down the menu and couldn’t help but glance over.
"Is there a pin on the seat?"
"No, I just..."
Yun Chan casually interjected, "Miss Jiang mentioned she’d bring her two assistants."
As soon as she finished, true to form, the boy’s eyebrows raised.
She swiftly threw cold water over it, "I had Lian Lian and Li Yan accompany you, do you feel any signs of memory returning?"
Yun Yi’s eyebrows drooped again, as he frustratingly tapped his head and mumbled, "No."
Seeing those two filled him with a visceral nausea, yet he had to rely on them to trigger his lost memory, an unbearably painful experience.
"I can’t even imagine why I would have dated Lian Lian, I don’t think I ever liked her kind."
"If you can’t imagine it, then it’s even more baffling for me."
Outside the private room.
Changning paused upon overhearing the mother and son’s conversation, Jiang Lingxi noticed and turned back to glance at her.
Up ahead, Shen Chuyue pushed open the door to the private room.
The mother and son inside stood up in unison.
"Miss Jiang is here, please sit down. Chuyue and the two young ladies, you too."
Yun Chan finished the introductions and patted Yun Yi’s shoulder, "Go serve the tea!"
Yun Yi hurriedly stood up, picked up the teapot on the table, and went to Jiang Lingxi’s seat first to pour her a cup, "Miss Jiang, have some tea."
"Thank you."
He then moved to Changning’s seat, took her cup, and filled it, "Changning, have some tea."
Changning accepted her tea cup with a cool expression, "Thank you."
Originally intending to say more to her, Yun Yi was at a loss for words when he saw how she avoided looking at him, finally turning away in disappointment to pour tea for Lu Zhengzheng.
Seeing this, Yun Chan sighed inwardly, then smiled at Jiang Lingxi, who was sipping tea, "I only just learned yesterday that Miss Jiang is Chuyue’s cousin-in-law. Chuyue calls me Yun Jie, so you may as well. I’ve arranged for your room tonight to be next to Chuyue’s."
Jiang Lingxi put down her tea and looked over, "Yun Jie, you’re so considerate. You can call me Lingxi, or Xiaoxi."
"Alright, Lingxi."
Just as Yun Yi sat back down after pouring the tea, he realized something.
Everyone here calls his mom "Jie," which made him the youngest in the room?
He could handle the rest, but even Changning had a higher seniority than him, how was he supposed to address her!
"Then, how should I call her?"
Yun Chan couldn’t resist glancing at him, feeling like this kid had gotten dumber since his amnesia.
"Call her Auntie."
"Pfft, haha!"
Changning couldn’t hold back her laughter.
Seeing her laugh, Yun Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as Changning wasn’t being cold to him, he could manage to call her Auntie.
Even Shen Chuyue noticed the odd atmosphere.
Something seemed off!
But wasn’t Lian Lian previously...
Just as she started to think about it, she heard Yun Chan speak, "Lingxi, your person of interest, Lian Lian, this kid happened to run into her."
Jiang Lingxi glanced at Changning’s subtly attentive ears, "Is she still in Liangchuan?"
"Yes, and she’s with someone named Li Yan. This pair used to be this kid’s girlfriend and his good buddy, but after coming back from the desert, they’ve gotten together."
Yun Chan spoke with a heavy dose of sarcasm, airing her son’s dirty laundry with ruthless ferocity, "I don’t even want to admit this kid as my own, claiming he could handle his own affairs—what were those eyes of his doing!"
Yun Yi imagined sinking lower and lower beneath the table, quietly rebutting, "Mom, everyone has moments of blindness."
"Well, your blindness is something else."
This time, Changning finally couldn’t hold back, "Your memory..."
Yun Yi then quickly looked up at her, "It’s still not back. When I encountered them, I instinctively felt very familiar and stopped them. Only after my mom arrived did she recognize them; I still can’t remember anything."
"What about them now..."
"They plead ignorance, slippery as fish, fitting for them to be together, but it’s now certain that they’re far from innocent. So, I’ve kept them around to poke at this kid, hoping it’ll jolt his memory—I suppose that’s their only use for now."
