Chapter 212: Chapter 0209 Rest in Peace, Everyone
Not long after that.
The middle-aged man led Lin Fan and the crazed old man to a dense forest deep in the mountains.
This mountain range was indeed an excellent place for hiding.
"This is where the Thirteen Great Thieves are hiding. Finding them won’t be easy, but I imagine that once they see only the two of us here, they’ll definitely show themselves."
"After all, a group came earlier to court death."
The middle-aged man spoke slowly.
As he said these words, his emotions remained calm, unlike someone about to confront the Thirteen Great Thieves. There was not even the slightest hint of excitement in his heart.
Everything felt eerily serene.
"Son, go play for a bit. Your old man will find you later," Lin Fan said.
The crazed old man was captivated by the nature surrounding him. He mumbled an "oh" before running off in his usual erratic manner.
The middle-aged man watched as the crazed old man disappeared into the distance. "Truly pitiful."
Perhaps pitiful because he was about to lose his "father" soon.
Lin Fan and the middle-aged man ventured deeper into the forest.
The trees in this mountainous region weren’t particularly dense.
The atmosphere was laced with an eerie foreboding.
For the middle-aged man, in particular, there was an unsettling feeling.
That gaze boring into his back—it was too damn invasive.
Walking ahead, the middle-aged man stepped on dried branches, producing faint creaks and cracks as he said:
"Do you know the origins of the Thirteen Great Thieves?"
Lin Fan shook his head. "I don’t know, and I’m not interested. When they appear later, I’ll simply unleash my Divine Skills, dispatch them cleanly and efficiently, and wipe them all out."
The middle-aged man chuckled, a laugh dripping with mockery. "My friend, you’re truly confident. Cultivating Immortal Laws does require confidence, but too much of it is just digging your own grave."
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Suddenly.
There was movement in the surroundings, a sound like the rustling of leaves.
"Listen, do you hear anything?"
"Looks like the Thirteen Great Thieves have spotted us," whispered the middle-aged man.
He seemed about to say more.
"Actually, you shouldn’t..."
Before he could finish.
The middle-aged man froze in place, lowered his eyes, and his gaze fell. A sharp weapon was pressed against his throat, and something hard was digging into the small of his back.
"Don’t move, or you’ll die."
Lin Fan held the Green Toad Saber against his throat with his left hand, while his Flying Smoke Spirit Sword was pressed against the man’s lower back in his right hand. The aura of the sharp weapons seeped into the middle-aged man’s body, sending chills coursing through him.
"Friend, what is the meaning of this?" The middle-aged man feigned composure, though confusion crept into his voice.
It was as if he were saying:
What are you doing?
We’re supposed to be here together to annihilate the Thirteen Great Thieves, and now you’re holding me at knifepoint—don’t you think that’s a bit much?
"Hold on, don’t speak. It’ll be over soon. Haven’t you felt my gaze on you all this time?"
Ever since they left the Huang Mansion, Lin Fan’s eyes had never left him.
Always watching from behind.
A pair of eyes filled with a burning intensity fixated on the man.
How could he not feel it?
In fact, escaping that pair of fiery eyes was entirely impossible.
Just then.
Several figures appeared, stealthy and elusive. Some stood on tree branches, others perched on rocks.
But every single one of them was a menacing and fierce outlaw.
From their sinister expressions.
From their bloodstained hands.
It was clear that these people were far from decent.
"Hahaha."
A bald big man laughed. "How interesting. Cultivators coming to kill us are fighting amongst themselves before they even get started. Are you guys serious about messing with us or not?"
The middle-aged man said, "Friend, stop fooling around. The Thirteen Great Thieves are already here. Now’s the time for us to join forces."
Spurt!
The sound was akin to something being stabbed.
The middle-aged man’s face turned pale, then went slack.
As if he just realized something, he slowly lowered his head.
White blade in.
Green blade out.
It seemed as though his gallbladder had been pierced.
And from the back, no less—the sword had penetrated clean through, its blade emerging.
Lin Fan had inexplicably stabbed his sword through the man.
Leaving him utterly dumbfounded.
"Big Brother!"
"Boss..."
"You bastard, what are you trying to do?!"
The Thirteen Great Thieves were stunned.
Seeing their leader get stabbed out of nowhere, they too were rattled.
Damn it!
What was this guy’s deal?
Not a word, and he’s stabbing their boss—did he ask for their permission as his brothers?
"When did you figure me out?"
The middle-aged man’s pallor deepened to a ghastly white, but thanks to his high cultivation, a pierced gallbladder wasn’t enough to undo him completely.
"The moment you started putting on airs in front of me," Lin Fan replied.
The middle-aged man listened to these words, but for a moment, he was at a complete loss.
He couldn’t comprehend what the other party even meant by that.
Lin Fan said, "Hand over Huang Mansion’s young lady, or I can’t guarantee your boss’s head will stay on his shoulders."
He was prepared for a bloodbath.
But he figured that if he killed everyone and still didn’t find Huang Mansion’s heiress, that’d be quite awkward, wouldn’t it?
So his approach was simple.
Locate the person first.
Then sort out everything else.
"Even if you kill me, don’t think you can escape," the middle-aged man said. But right after speaking, a surge of overwhelming pain erupted in him.
Lin Fan’s methods were ruthless to an extreme.
Gripping the sword hilt, he twisted and churned it violently.
Each twist caused an alarming amount of blood to gurgle from the wound.
"Don’t talk. The more nonsense you spout, the more I want to turn the blade," Lin Fan said.
The middle-aged man’s face became even paler.
Though his cultivation level was high, the pain was unbearable. "What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and bring her out!"
Meanwhile, some among the Thirteen Great Thieves were panicking. Their leader being held hostage was akin to a thunderbolt striking out of nowhere. Hearing his order, they hesitated, but it was clear they had no choice.
"Wait." One of the bandits stopped them.
He had a single eye, with the other left uncovered, exposing an empty socket that seemed like a testament to his ruthlessness.
See this? I’m missing an eye.
Who the hell dares provoke me?
The middle-aged man glared at him. "Second Brother, what are you trying to do?"
A sense of doom welled up inside him.
The second-in-command was arrogant and defiant by nature, callous to his core. Though he seldom openly defied him, the leader knew the Second Brother harbored resentment towards him deep down.
"Brothers, the Xuanyin Body is a once-in-a-century occurrence. Now that we’ve encountered it, it’s our destiny, our chance at fortune. How could we just hand it over so easily?"
"Big Brother, you told me before that in difficult decisions, we should vote."
"We cannot give up the Xuanyin Body. This is our path to immortality."
"So, let’s hear it, brothers. I vote for keeping the Xuanyin Body. What about you?"
The one-eyed Second Brother scanned the group, clearly ready to abandon their once-revered leader.
The middle-aged man roared, "You traitor! You’re betraying me? The rest of you, what are you standing there for? Bring out the girl now! Have you all forgotten how I’ve treated you over the years?"
"And now you’re betraying me just for a Xuanyin Body?"
The leader still carried the imposing presence of a leader.
Seeing his furious and menacing expression, some bandits were momentarily cowed.
But only momentarily.
None of them moved an inch.
Lin Fan sighed. "You’re not a very successful leader. Look, your underlings are ready to mutiny."
The middle-aged man’s face turned ashen gray. If he weren’t still bleeding, he would’ve lashed out, cursing these sons of bitches to death.
The one-eyed Second Brother said, "I vote for keeping the Xuanyin Body. This is our chance—our destiny as immortals. We must not let it slip away."
Soon, others chimed in.
"Big Brother, sorry."
"The Xuanyin Body is too important. It’s vital to the cultivation of our Dharma Gate."
"You’ve treated us well all these years, and we’ll never forget your kindness. We promise to dismember whoever’s holding you hostage and avenge you properly."
"We’ll burn extra joss paper for you in the next life."
When a betrayal gathers enough momentum.
Those with weak wills, weighing their options, will inevitably follow the larger group.
As for their leader?
They might wish to save him.
But being a minority, powerless and voiceless, they could only watch him fall.
The middle-aged man spoke to Lin Fan in a calmer tone. "Friend, though I’m the leader of bandits and did intend to kill you, I now want to clean house. Please grant me this small favor—I’ll personally cut down the traitors and deliver the Huang Family’s daughter to you along with all our treasures. We’ll leave this region, never to return."
Spurt!
Lin Fan moved swiftly, slicing off the middle-aged man’s head with the Green Toad Saber.
His head toppled to the ground.
As long as the blade is sharp enough and the swing is fast enough.
Even after decapitation, the brain retains awareness for at least ten seconds.
This wasn’t a baseless boast from Lin Fan.
It was proven by earlier scientists who sacrificed themselves to verify it.
The middle-aged man’s head hit the dirt, his eyes wide open, staring at Lin Fan in disbelief, as if shocked by the ruthless speed of his demise.
"Ah, I somewhat expected holding you hostage would be more useful. But it turns out you were utterly worthless."
"You lot are truly disappointing."
"I had imagined the camaraderie between you bandits to be something noteworthy. Yet, it turns out your so-called brotherhood is as fragile as cheap plastic. Quite the letdown."
Lin Fan shrugged helplessly.
Then he turned his gaze toward the rest of them.
"One."
"Two."
...
"Ten."
"Huh?! Weren’t you supposed to be the Thirteen Great Thieves?"
"Where are the other two?"
He estimated that, even with his notoriously bad luck, the sheer number of them should at least yield something valuable.
The Thirteen Great Thieves didn’t answer Lin Fan’s question.
But his gaze made them deeply uncomfortable.
It was the kind of look one might give prey before the kill—a mix of amusement and challenge.
The Thieves, known to fear nothing in heaven or earth.
The infamous crew who defied all rules and even terrorized the heavens themselves, now faced a genuine menace. For generations, never had fear gripped them like this.
KILL THIS MADMAN!
