Chapter 184: Chapter 181: Brothers Bid Farewell
Excitement, exhilaration—various emotions enveloped Lin Fan.
He had never imagined barging into the cave mansion of a living powerhouse, doing as he pleased, grabbing whatever he saw. Just thinking about it made him a little thrilled.
Very quickly, two figures transformed into streams of light and rushed into the cave mansion.
The Blood Saber Demon’s cave mansion was stocked with everything—stone tables, prayer mats, bookshelves, and so on. Although it wasn’t clear which of these were treasures, that hardly mattered now.
Li Daode had long advised him: Take whatever you see, leave nothing behind; even something that looks inconspicuous might be a precious treasure.
The bandits are here to raid! Men, women—it’s all mine.
With a wave of his hand, Lin Fan stuffed everything he passed into his storage ring—stone tables, stone stools, even the stone lamp nearby. He swept through like a whirlwind.
"Brother, you’re impressive! That technique is way too skilled—doesn’t seem like your first time doing something like this." Li Daode exclaimed, astonished by Lin Fan’s speed at scavenging. Without prior experience, there’s no way anyone could pull that off.
"Do I look like someone who would do this before? It’s really my first time," Lin Fan replied.
Li Daode chuckled, "Looks like some good luck was in play—popped your cherry, eh?"
Damn!
Why does this sound a little off?
Whose cherry popped?
After entering, Li Daode didn’t compete with Lin Fan in scavenging and instead picked up a few items symbolically.
The cave mansion of a powerhouse wasn’t filled with Dao Artifacts as one might imagine. Everything was down to luck—some might keep all their treasures on themselves, while others with peculiar habits might leave them in their cave mansions.
The exact reasons?
Unknown.
Lin Fan swept through from beginning to end, taking even ancient books from the shelves without bothering to check whether they contained Supreme Divine Skills. He took everything, even the bookshelves themselves.
Soon.
The cave mansion was barren, utterly empty. Not a single item remained. It was stripped bare, even the illuminated beads embedded in the walls were pried out.
Truly impressive.
"Let’s go. We’ve taken everything that can be taken. This place is not safe to linger in. It’s about time to leave. If the Blood Saber Demon catches us here, escaping would be tough." Li Daode was still considerably fearful of the Blood Saber Demon. With his cultivation two major realms higher, killing him wouldn’t be much of an issue.
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
Like sneaky thieves, the two figures fled the cave mansion, then bolted far into the distance as soon as they were outside.
"Hahaha, we did it! Tell me, isn’t this kind of thing exhilarating? Raiding a powerhouse’s cave mansion—there are hardly any people in the world who could do this and get away unscathed!" Li Daode crowed with pride.
But not long after they fled.
An enraged roar resounded across the heavens.
"You thieves dare to come here again?! Watch as I slay you!" From the distant expanse of the heavens, there came a thunderous voice, followed by a streak of blood-red light piercing through the void. The night was dyed more vividly scarlet by its fiery presence.
The Blood Saber Demon was furious—someone dared to covet his cave mansion.
He had thought that a single lesson was enough.
But evidently, it wasn’t. Although he couldn’t quite figure out how they had managed to evade him before, anyone daring to loot his cave mansion deserved death.
"Crap, we’ve been discovered!"
Li Daode cried out in shock, not expecting the Blood Saber Demon to be so tenacious. He was far more sinister than any powerhouse Li Daode had encountered.
"Li Daoyou, you should leave first. I’ll hold him off for you here." Lin Fan’s excitement surged. This kind of action was both thrilling and exhilarating. Besides, he wanted to go up against the Blood Saber Demon; perhaps there might even be a chance to kill him.
Though the chances were slim.
But how would you know it’s impossible if you didn’t try?
Maybe the demon, in his fury, would wave his blood saber haphazardly, then get overwhelmed by the explosion of the Four Saints Cang Reversal set, directly killing himself. It wasn’t entirely impossible.
Li Daode said, "How could I leave? I brought you here; we must leave together."
"You think I’m easy to bully? Watch closely, brother; I’ve roamed for hundreds of years—do you think I don’t have a backup plan?"
Suddenly, Li Daode lifted his head and roared, "Blood Saber Demon, you old fool, don’t be too arrogant! If I can raid your cave mansion, I can leave unscathed. With your lousy mana, what do you think you can do to me? Dream on!"
In an instant.
Li Daode formed a spell with his fingers. The necklace hanging around his neck trembled slightly, emitting dazzling light, "Three Lives Fatebond, my darling husband, come protect me!"
A god-like spell so shameful it boggled the mind.
Swoosh!
The necklace had been studded with three gems; only one remained. Now, even that last gem shattered, releasing a ray of light that tore through the heavens.
A majestic figure stood in the void, raising a hand to instantly shatter the blood-colored saber’s aura sent forth by the Blood Saber Demon.
Li Daode’s heart ached.
It was a colossal loss.
This venture had been a terrible trade.
The necklace was one of his life-saving artifacts, acquired from the ruins of a deceased female powerhouse. For it, he had paid an enormous price, spent thirty years gathering intelligence, purchasing information, and ultimately obtained it as a top-notch defensive Dao Artifact.
It could only be used three times in total.
When he acquired it, one use had already been spent.
The second use, sixty years ago, was during an attempt to raid a True Immortal Realm powerhouse’s cave mansion, upon being discovered, enabling his escape.
Now, the final use was squandered on the Blood Saber Demon.
Had he abandoned Lin Fan, Li Daode would have had other methods to escape the Blood Saber Demon’s pursuit. But Lin Fan was his savior, and for a first-timer in this risky endeavor, he couldn’t let Lin Fan die no matter what.
"Brother, time to bail!" Li Daode grabbed Lin Fan’s wrist and bolted like the wind.
Sigh!
Sigh!
Lin Fan had been hoping to face off against the Blood Saber Demon and maybe reap some rewards.
Getting dragged away like this felt a bit disappointing.
Oh well.
Now that things had reached this point, there wasn’t much to do about it.
Blood Saber Demon faced a projection of a powerhouse—not just any projection, but one imbued with its divine soul, wielding thirty percent of its original strength.
Even that thirty percent was more than enough to give the Blood Saber Demon a headache.
"How many treasures does this guy carry on him, really?" The Blood Saber Demon was desperate to capture Li Daode and strip him of every treasure he owned, each more tempting than the last.
But now.
He didn’t have the chance to think further about that.
The projection of the ancient powerhouse before him demanded his full attention.
Boom!
The heavens and earth quaked.
Two powerhouses clashed, rippling destruction for thousands of miles.
Li Daode watched from afar as the space trembled, feeling both miserable and indignant. If not for using the necklace’s second activation last time, he would have been able to invoke both remaining charges, fuse them, and obliterate the Blood Saber Demon outright.
Afterward, he clutched his now-empty neck, feeling anguish. No more risky ventures—otherwise, centuries of effort would be for naught.
He glanced at the guy beside him.
This wasn’t his fault, was it?
A few days later.
"Huff! No more running. We’ve escaped far enough; that old demon shouldn’t be able to catch up." Li Daode panted, more bedraggled than ever. Yet this loss wasn’t as bad as past ones—it was just way too costly. Costly enough to make him wish for a rich immortal sugar mama to sell his kidneys to.
"Brother, exhilarating, wasn’t it?"
Lin Fan smiled, "Exhilarating? Sure—but kind of cowardly too. That old demon seems powerful, but I felt like he might be all bark and no bite."
"Don’t! Never think that way. Even a starved camel is bigger than a horse. Even if the Blood Saber Demon were severely injured, the two of us combined still wouldn’t be his match," Li Daode quickly warned.
"Li Daoyou, you seem experienced—I propose this: How about the two of us team up? Let’s overturn the cave mansions of every powerhouse in the world!" Lin Fan extended an olive branch. This guy was a talent.
If they cooperated, with his abundance of experience and Li Daode’s detailed intel, they might just accomplish something big.
Get rich in one year, become renowned in two years, and dominate the cultivation world in three.
Li Daode waved his hands furiously, shaking his head, "Not happening, brother. I’ve always been a lone wolf. Adding more people only causes trouble. This time raiding the Blood Saber Demon’s cave mansion—brother, you gained significantly. Plus, I sacrificed a Dao Artifact to ensure your safe exit."
"The life-saving debt between us is settled."
He had brought Lin Fan along to raid the demon’s cave mansion precisely to repay a life-saving favor. He was someone who repaid kindness.
To repay the favor, he took Lin Fan to the Blood Saber Demon’s cave mansion, faced danger, and sacrificed a treasure to ensure Lin Fan’s escape.
"You brought me here just to settle a moral debt?" Lin Fan was stunned. He had never thought of it like this. If everyone acted like Li Daode, wouldn’t the world be much better?
"Naturally. One must repay kindness. The verdant hills won’t change, and the flowing waters will last—we’ll meet again. But if we bump into each other in a secret realm someday, don’t blame me for taking treasures meant for me." Li Daode replied.
With a deep sigh.
This favor had cost him dearly.
In raiding the Blood Saber Demon’s cave mansion, he only took a few symbolic items—the rest he left for Lin Fan.
And he had even used one of his life-saving tools.
"Brother, let’s part ways here. You’ve got your journey to follow, and I’ve got mine. But remember—don’t go around telling anyone you know me. If you get killed, don’t blame some mess on my head!" Li Daode was self-aware. He had offended many people, most of them powerhouses, hence he used aliases frequently.
Sometimes changing his name monthly, sometimes even every few days.
He didn’t dare imagine the consequences if someone were to go babbling about knowing Li Daode—it would surely lead to relentless pursuit and certain death.
"Oh, right. I noticed you’ve got a knack for this line of work. Here, take my insights from hundreds of years. When you have nothing else to do, give it a look. But brother, here’s a piece of advice: don’t start with high difficulty levels. Build up gradually. Someday, you’ll reach my level."
"Farewell."
Li Daode didn’t want to linger here. As soon as the words left his mouth, he bolted, vanishing without a trace.
"What a weirdo." Lin Fan shook his head before looking down at the insights Li Daode handed him. At first glance, it looked ordinary, but then he stared at it with a dumbfounded expression.
"Moral Scripture."
Are you kidding me?
This guy was bold.
He dared to use such a name.
Was he not afraid of attracting the attention of unseen forces?
To be fair, Li Daode did feel like he had been slapped by fate ever since writing this and naming it thus.
Maybe it was just an illusion.
