Chapter 162: Chapter 0159: The Poor Monk’s Divine Zen, Dare You Strike Me?
Serpent Gang Headquarters.
This is the true headquarters of the Serpent Gang. The locations north of the Huai River are merely branch halls. Here, the Serpent Gang occupies a vast area, and the place is teeming with elite fighters. Talented individuals from the martial world have been drawn into the Serpent Gang, forming an extraordinarily powerful force.
If not for the Immortal-bestowed imperial authority,
the Serpent Gang could easily overthrow the dynasty without difficulty.
"Stop right there."
As Lin Fan approached, a row of gang members stationed at the entrance unsheathed their blades, glaring viciously at Lin Fan. Their expressions made it clear that taking even one more step would lead to instant death.
Lin Fan remained unfazed.
He stepped forward.
"Seeking death!" With a furious roar, a Serpent Gang member lunged at him with his blade.
Bang!
Bang!
In the blink of an eye,
the gang members clutched at their throats, blood gushing uncontrollably. Even in their dying moments, they couldn’t understand what had just happened—how everything changed in mere seconds.
Lin Fan pushed open the door and entered.
The gang members around him saw this stranger and immediately became alert. When their eyes fell on the corpses by the door, rage instantly consumed them. They drew their blades and charged toward Lin Fan.
Lin Fan’s mind stirred, and a wave of overwhelming mana crushed down.
Bang!
Bang!
Those who approached felt an indescribably terrifying pressure bearing down on them. They felt as though they were carrying a mountain on their backs, struggling even to breathe.
All of them collapsed on the ground, unable to move.
Lin Fan walked slowly inward, his path leaving no one standing—this included even Innate-level experts.
"An Immortal."
An Innate-level expert trembled on the ground, staring at Lin Fan in fear. He knew this was an Immortal. What he couldn’t understand was why an Immortal appeared here and why he was targeting the Serpent Gang.
"Where is he?"
Lin Fan was searching for the person in charge of the Serpent Gang headquarters. "Come out quickly; don’t waste my time."
Inside a meditation room ahead.
An elderly monk with white whiskers was reciting scriptures and chanting Buddhist sayings. Suddenly, his clouded eyes opened, radiating bursts of divine light.
If any martial artists were present, they would have gasped in shock upon seeing this elderly monk.
Is this not the legendary Divine Zen Master, who roamed the martial world for nearly seventy years before retreating into obscurity?
A master of profoundly advanced Buddhist Law.
A figure of unfathomable strength.
He was known to have once subdued the top martial artist of his era with a single move, "Buddha Commands the World."
With a swoosh,
the Divine Zen Master disappeared from the room, leaving behind only an old, worn prayer mat.
Lin Fan thought the headquarters was a bit too expansive, making it troublesome to find someone. It seemed necessary to catch someone and ask for directions.
Suddenly,
an old monk appeared before him.
"Impressive," Lin Fan said. "You’ve cultivated the Shrinking Earth martial art to such a level; there are few in this world capable of such mastery." Lin Fan was momentarily startled by the monk, initially mistaking him for a Buddhist cultivator.
Upon closer inspection,
he realized that was not the case—the monk was merely a martial artist who had perfected the Shrinking Earth technique to an extraordinary level.
"Thank you for the praise, kind benefactor. I am Divine Zen. It’s an honor to meet you." The Divine Zen Master pressed his hands together respectfully, thinking to himself that by revealing his name, any fighter with a shred of knowledge would recognize him immediately.
He had already prepared himself for Lin Fan to exclaim, "You’re Divine Zen the Divine Monk?" at which point he would modestly reply, "The title is undeserved; I am but a humble monk."
However, to his dismay,
he did not hear the anticipated words.
"Why are you here meddling around instead of reciting scriptures and chanting in an ancient monastery?" Lin Fan asked.
The Divine Zen Master replied, "Amitabha, this humble monk is plagued by demonic obstacles of the heart and has come here to purge my inner demons. May I ask what brings you here, kind benefactor?"
"Hah, hypocrite," Lin Fan commented. "You’re lucky you’re a monk. I don’t want to lower myself to your level. Step aside. I have some business with the Serpent Gang."
"Your comments are unwise, benefactor," the Divine Zen Master said. "I sense the murderous aura around you. You’ve undoubtedly come seeking vengeance, but it’s better to resolve enmities than fuel them further. Why not grant this humble monk a favor and let matters end here?"
"Yet I also understand your resentment. Perhaps you would allow me to endure it instead? You may vent your anger on me freely. If you feel satisfied afterward, then might you leave in peace?"
As his words faded,
the Divine Zen Master stood steadfast in place.
He had perfected the Buddhist supreme Dharma Gate, "Arhat Undying Golden Body," to its peak cultivation. He could stand motionless, enduring the blows of all mankind for a lifetime, without losing his power.
Lin Fan had no intention of wasting words on this old monk.
"Fine."
"You’ve asked for it—don’t blame me now."
As the words left his mouth,
Lin Fan swung his palm forward.
The Divine Zen Master pressed his hands together once more, starting to chant, "Ami..."
Bang!
Before he could finish, the Divine Zen Master vanished instantly, flying through the distant wall, leaving no trace.
"Ami your head. I hate it most when people act sanctimonious around me," Lin Fan remarked.
Lin Fan couldn’t fathom what was going through the old monk’s mind.
Instead of practicing Buddhism in a monastery, he was here causing trouble. The Serpent Gang was no good place—misfortune loomed for those involved.
In the distance.
The Divine Zen Master lay among the debris, his golden body fractured, blood flowing steadily. Barely clinging to life, he still couldn’t comprehend how things had turned out like this.
He had cultivated the "Arhat Undying Golden Body" to perfection, eliminating all vulnerabilities. Yet, he was shattered with a single palm strike.
An Immortal.
This was a cultivator.
But why would a cultivator appear in the mortal world? This place was only for mortals to frolic!
Lin Fan grabbed a gang member who was trying to flee.
The man fell to his knees, pleading for mercy.
"Please spare me, please spare me!"
Lin Fan asked, "Speak. Your gang leader—where is he, and where are the others?"
"The gang leader and the other high-ups are in the Imperial Court. Today is the Emperor’s birthday celebration; the gang’s top brass is all attending there," the gang member stammered in terror, realizing that the intruder had killed his way in effortlessly—a clear indication that those outside hadn’t been able to block him.
"At the Imperial Court?" Lin Fan continued to ask, "Then tell me—where are the people from Jiangdu City who were captured?"
"They’re in the Imperial Court Dungeon. I’ve told you everything; please let me go. I’m just a lowly cleaner who hasn’t been involved in anything," the gang member whimpered. He served the gang leader and had no clue who had provoked such a powerful enemy. But seeing someone storm the headquarters unchecked—it was utterly terrifying.
Lin Fan finally breathed a sigh of relief, relieved to know the captured individuals were still alive—his only solace.
"Lead the way."
Whether the man was willing or not no longer mattered; he had no say in the matter.
"Ah! Hero, please spare me; I’m truly pitiable!"
But when Lin Fan placed a blade against his neck, the gang member instantly crumbled. He reluctantly agreed to guide Lin Fan to the Imperial Court Dungeon.
The Imperial Court Dungeon.
Fifteen subordinates—including Zhao Desheng—had been detained there, all except Gao Zhenbin.
"Alas, Lord Wang, it seems we’ll only get to work together again in the next life," Zhao Desheng commented.
He hadn’t expected to leave this place alive.
After being brought here, their fate was out of their control.
The Serpent Gang was an intimidating force, unchallengeable. Twisting truth and distorting justice was effortless for them—they could call black white and white black.
Now that matters had come to this, there was no way out—they were surely going to die.
As they conversed,
screams began to echo from outside.
They had no idea what was happening.
Could it be that the Serpent Gang had grown impatient and was planning to act directly?
But it made no sense.
If it were the Serpent Gang, they could have confidently walked in and executed them in front of everyone.
"Lord Wang, Bao Liu, where are you?"
A familiar voice called out.
Wang Baoliu was overjoyed, "Boss, I’m here!"
Wang Baoliu was so excited he almost burst into tears. Even Wang Zhou was flabbergasted—how had Lin Fan managed to appear here? Wasn’t he supposed to be at the Immortal Sect?
Shortly afterward,
when Lin Fan appeared before them, Wang Zhou realized this wasn’t an illusion—it was real.
"Damn it! How dare they injure my people like this?" Lin Fan slightly exerted force with his hand, instantly killing the Serpent Gang member who had led the way. He then tore open the dungeon lock and tossed it aside.
"How did you get here?" Wang Zhou asked.
Lin Fan replied, "I returned to Jiangdu City and heard you were held here, so I came to rescue you—and to see who’s arrogant enough to pull this off."
Lin Fan observed the severe injuries on Wang Zhou and the others—especially Wang Zhou, whose wounds were so severe that his ten fingers exposed bone, and his collarbone was shackled to restrict movement.
If not for his deep reserves of Inner Strength,
such injuries would have been fatal for Wang Baoliu or anyone else.
Fury burned anew in Lin Fan’s heart.
This time, no one would escape alive.
"Boss, I didn’t expect you’d truly come to save us." Wang Baoliu was overwhelmed with emotion, wanting to throw himself at Lin Fan, but the pain of moving too abruptly made him grimace and tremble uncontrollably.
"You fool, if I don’t come to save you, who will? After this beating, do you think those meat buns you love taste even better now?" Lin Fan teased.
Wang Baoliu grinned foolishly, though a thought suddenly struck him. "Boss, we should leave quickly; this place is dangerous."
"It doesn’t matter. I didn’t come here expecting to settle things easily. Here, take these elixirs and consume them," Lin Fan said, handing them healing elixirs before turning to Wang Zhou. "Lord Wang, rest easy. I am now an Immortal Sect disciple, and with me here, you have nothing to fear."
"Do not be reckless—the dynasty has Immortals too. Your position in the Immortal Sect is not yet secure; it’s better to leave quickly to avoid trouble," Wang Zhou warned.
Though he’d never entered the Immortal Sect himself,
he had learned that newly inducted disciples were often in precarious positions. While they might have some power, encountering other sect members might complicate things further.
"No need for concern, Lord Wang," Lin Fan said with a smile. "I’ve managed to gain a somewhat decent footing in the sect—most people would think twice before messing with me."
He didn’t spell it out too clearly,
choosing to remain modest.
But was this modesty?
Could he openly say he was the son of the Supreme Elder, wielding near-limitless authority in the sect, able to crush anyone who crossed him?
Of course not.
If he did, Wang Zhou and the others might still struggle to grasp the true weight of his status in the Immortal Sect.
"Let’s go to the Imperial Court."
"If the old Emperor messes up his birthday celebration, I’ll ensure it becomes his funeral."
Lin Fan’s killing intent surged; without bloodshed, his rage wouldn’t subside.
Wang Zhou and the others stared at Lin Fan’s back, mouths agape.
"Dominance."
If they were to name this scenario,
it would be titled: Dominant Immortal Protecting Me.
