Chapter 38: Chapter 29: Fight and Escape
Thermal Bomb.
It belonged to conventional weaponry, yet it possessed the extraordinary lethality and destructive power just shy of nuclear weapons.
During the initial explosion, the thermal bomb would spread an indomitable cloud of fire.
Then came the secondary explosion.
At that moment, the dispersed cloud of fire would be directly ignited, with the accompanying shockwave lasting long and packing a considerable punch; it could also swiftly consume the oxygen in such an underground environment, causing death from asphyxiation due to the lack of oxygen.
By the time guessing magic and Ghost Flame reacted, it was already too late to dodge.
Although both individuals had Soul Power that had broken through the 10-point mark, they were still made of flesh and blood. Faced with the formidable might of these "sub-nuclear weapons," they had to find a way to save themselves.
It was almost instantaneous—
Guessing magic bellowed, "To die for the dead!"
Corpses appeared all around him—in front of him, behind him, to his left and right, even above his head—all displaying a ghastly array of Handprints and Curse Skills that looked exceedingly sinister.
His companion’s body burst into a miserable green flame and rapidly transformed into a blaze of light, merging with the explosion.
Wu Xiaode, though on the other side of the cliff and at a considerable distance, didn’t dare to be careless.
The instant the explosion occurred on the opposite side—
He had raised his vigilance, silently preparing for any possible changes.
What he saw next was all the silver discs on the ground flying up, merging together in the air, and forming a semi-transparent wall that shielded him behind it.
This glass wall was tightly sealed, as if it were initially embedded in the passageway.
The shockwave from the explosion and the flying rocks were all blocked by the glass wall, unable to harm Wu Xiaode in the slightest.
"Tsk, Sister Lan really does care about me."
Wu Xiaode thought silently to himself.
Boom boom boom—
The mountainous explosions sounded one after another and finally began to subside.
The glass curtain wall disappeared at once, reverting back into discs that settled on the ground.
Suddenly.
A miserable green flame appeared right next to Wu Xiaode.
A person covered with black runes emerged from the flames.
This person was full of corpse spots, stiff in form, and vacant in gaze, lunging to bite Wu Xiaode as soon as he appeared.
Clang!
Wu Xiaode kicked him away, sending him flying far off towards the cliff below.
"Body as tough as metal?"
He uttered with a grave expression.
His kick on that corpse felt like striking a heavy piece of steel, even the sound it made was like hitting metal.
This type of corpse was not easy to deal with!
The next instant.
Several miserable green flames appeared continuously, hovering around Wu Xiaode.
One after another, corpses emerged from the flames, surging towards Wu Xiaode like a tide.
Wu Xiaode’s fists whirred impenetrably, striking the corpses in a rapid flurry, and in just a few breaths he produced a sound as intense as a sudden downpour.
Clang clang clang clang clang—
Within a series of sounds, a dense crowd of corpses were punched away, scattering across the sky, plummeting towards the cliff below.
While he fought, Wu Xiaode inwardly felt fortunate.
Thanks to the undead locating guessing magic and their appearance in advance, he had been able to instruct Xia Ni to plant the thermal bomb.
Now, even if they weren’t dead, they were surely in a bad way.
Otherwise, with the green flames combined with the corpses, they would assuredly have various methods of manipulation, which would likely make them much harder to fight!
Boom—Boom—Boom!
Above the passageway entrance, wave after wave of corpses were blown away by Wu Xiaode’s Iron Fist, dancing haphazardly in the air before crashing down the cliff.
Nearly ten breaths later.
The green flames and corpses ceased to appear.
Wu Xiaode stepped back a few paces, readied his boxing stance, and gasped, "If you only found the secret passageway, that would’ve been fine, but you had to come back to kill me, so don’t blame me for not being polite!"
He glanced at the Book of the Dead.
Though he didn’t use Iron Wire Fist, merely resorting to some basic boxing, it had still cost him two points of Soul Power.
Dust settled in the air.
The scene on the other side finally became clear.
The entrance to passage number 19 had been completely destroyed.
Two people, covered in blood—one clinging amidst the rubble, the other pierced through the shoulder by rebar and dangling in midair.
They were still breathing.
"Kid, this is just the beginning; show me your true strength," guessing magic said somberly.
My true strength...
But I don’t have Soul Power above 10 points.
Wu Xiaode coughed lightly and spoke up, "Quit the nonsense, tell me, where is secret passageway number five?"
"Damn you, what are you saying—"p>
Guessing magic’s angry cursing abruptly came to a halt.
Even the Ghost Flame pierced by rebar held his breath.
Because a gigantic single-horned, three-eyed serpent as thick as a millstone emerged from the collapsed mountainside.
Its body covered in vivid patterns, scales sparkling with a mesmerizing sheen in midair.
The serpent elegantly turned its body, flicking its tongue, sizing up the two individuals at the entrance of passage number 19.
"Do not fear, tell me where secret passageway number five is."
The single-horned, three-eyed giant serpent spoke in human tongues.
But let’s not mention the reaction of the two; conversely, Little Wu had discovered that the discs on the ground were emitting a faint buzzing sound.
The tracker on his chest also sounded:
"Soundproofing barrier generated, a holographic image of you will now stand in your place."
"Little Wu, take the chance now, run!"
—Xia Huilan’s voice!
Wu Xiaode stood still for a moment.
"Run!"
He leaped into action, running for his life into the depths of the passageway, and soon turned into a crow, speeding up his flight.
No sooner had he left than another him appeared at his original standing spot, with a smiling expression and a gaze seemingly intently watching the events on the opposite cliff.
The crow didn’t fly far before catching sight of a streak of flowing light that was coming head-on—
It was Xia Ni!
"Your sister is worried about you; she insisted I come back to check on you."
She hugged Xia Huilan and smiled at Ya.
"I’m fine, but if we don’t start running fast, we’ll be in big trouble," Ya said, speaking human language.
"If you were just a crow, I could have carried you as I fly," Xia Ni said.
The crow landed directly on Xia Huilan’s shoulder.
Only then did Xia Huilan breathe a sigh of relief, saying quickly, "It’s good you’re back, Xia Ni is very fast, so don’t fall off!"
"I won’t fall—"
Little Wu didn’t finish his sentence when Xia Huilan grabbed him and held him tightly in her arms.
"Accelerate!" Xia Huilan commanded.
Xia Ni suddenly increased speed, transforming into a streak of light, shooting through the dark and lengthy underground tunnel like a bolt of electricity.
They soon returned to the place they had come from.
"Can we hide here?" Xia Ni asked.
"Absolutely not, keep running. Once that guy catches up to us, we’re done for," Wu Xiaode said.
"Current choice of strategy: confuse the enemy," Xia Ni said.
She reached into the Void and instantly pulled out several iron cages.
Upon opening the cages, seven or eight monkeys jumped out, screeching as they fled to both sides of the underground tunnel.
Two of the monkeys even discovered a ventilation duct and climbed straight through it, leaving above the heads of the three individuals.
It indeed was a strategy to confuse the enemy.
——This space technology is quite useful, I’ll have to get Sister Lan to install one for me one day!
Wu Xiaode thought to himself and urged aloud:
"Let’s go, quickly!"
Xia Ni once again sped up, flying toward the depths of the tunnel.
Suddenly.
Not far ahead, two serpent-bodied creatures with human heads appeared.
"Familiar enemy detected, combat power evaluated as average, weakness: the head," Xia Ni gently reminded.
"We’re missing just one, right?" Xia Huilan shouted.
Ya’s eyes also lit up, yelling loudly, "Only one left!"
Xia Ni let down the two and drew a Light Saber, charging forward.
Ya also instantly transformed back into Wu Xiaode, shouting "Ya, don’t give me any more Soul Power" as he followed into the fray.
In just a moment’s encounter, Wu Xiaode threw four punches, each one striking the monsters’ heads directly.
Xia Ni fired an electromagnetic cannon, blasting one of the creatures away, then rushed to help Wu Xiaode.
The two attacked with reckless abandon.
In just a few breaths, the unlucky creature was killed by them.
Wu Xiaode glanced at his Soul Power.
Soul Power was at its limit.
In the depths of the tunnel, another creature emitted a sharp cry, charging towards where the three of them were located.
"Let’s go!"
Wu Xiaode grabbed Xia Huilan’s hand.
Xia Ni also landed beside him.
In a flash of light.
The three of them teleported away from this world.
...
Elsewhere.
Guessing magic reviewed the situation back and forth before a one-horned, three-eyed giant snake, and suddenly became calm.
He tried to breathe but couldn’t take in any oxygen.
The Thermal Bomb had consumed all the oxygen around, and it couldn’t replenish quickly enough.
Across from him was an unimaginably terrifying snake.
This was the end.
Guessing magic turned his head to look at Ghost Flame and said indifferently, "I’m sorry, Ghost Flame."
As soon as he finished speaking.
A throbbing heart emerged from his sleeve.
With a strong squeeze—
Outside the underground bunker, in the distant above-ground world somewhere, a creature enclosed within a metal coffin died instantly.
The Void flashed.
Guessing magic left this world and returned to the human world.
Only Ghost Flame was left.
His body trembling, he moaned, begging, "Don’t... eat me..."
The one-horned three-eyed giant snake said, "It turns out you are the reinforcements, looks like you can’t return to your world now. Tell me the location of the fifth secret passage, and I’ll grant you a quick end."
Ghost Flame spoke with a mouthful of bitterness, desperate, "What fifth secret passage? I really don’t know."
He struggled to breathe but could not inhale any oxygen.
His flame, although depending on Soul Power for release, would greatly decrease in potency without any oxygen.
"Spare—"
Before he could finish speaking, complete darkness enveloped the surroundings.
Then came an intense pain.
Everything ended.
The one-horned three-eyed giant snake spat out its tongue, ignoring the blood dribbling from its mouth, and reviewed the events once more.
It suddenly turned its head to look towards the tunnel where Wu Xiaode had been.
There stood Wu Xiaode, with a faint smile on his face, silently standing in place.
——That was a holographic image.
The giant snake stared at the holographic image, then looked around in a circle.
Breezes blew from all the tunnel entrances, carrying scents of animals, but none had the smell of humans.
Nothing was beneath the cliff, only piles of hundreds of rotting corpses stacked together.
These corpses had been knocked down by that young man earlier.
No one was here anymore.
The one-horned three-eyed giant snake suddenly let out a deep laugh.
It twisted its long body and slithered into the original channel number 13, leaving behind a chilling and murderous statement:
"...I’ve actually been fooled..."
"Pray that you don’t meet me again, otherwise, I will make you suffer so much that you will wish for death but will not be granted it!"
