Chapter 372: Chapter 330: Picking a Fight

The three Eye Demons looked at each other.

This big brother was truly formidable.

But to have everyone pull out all their resources just to stack levels and strength for his pet, wasn’t that a bit...

"Brother Shan, it’s not that we, your little brothers, don’t want to help, but as you know, every time we cultivate a pet, it costs a lot of Soul Power."

"Yeah, Brother Shan, we’re running low on Soul Power," another Eye Demon chimed in.

The Eye Demons began to complain bitterly.

Wu Xiaode nodded, unexpectedly keeping his temper in check.

When you are part of the underworld, how can you be a leader if you don’t allow your minions to get any benefits?

Even hiring people for work means you have to feed them properly.

Eye Demons subsist on the various emotions generated by all beings.

——By inciting the emotions of beings, an Eye Demon can extract Soul Power from the fluctuations of their souls.

The Soul Power provided by a single life form is very limited to an Eye Demon.

Only when hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of life forms experience emotions, will the escaping Soul Power be sufficient for an Eye Demon’s consumption.

This is somewhat like how whales feed, consuming small fish and shrimp, but once the quantity reaches a certain level, they can still enjoy a hearty meal.

——And it doesn’t harm the beings either.

Of course, there’s a simpler way to feed, which is to directly draw on the Power contained in soul stones.

But it is clear that the Eye Demons are being ostracized and can’t even get close to the other creatures.

They have to sneak around even to capture a pet.

In such a weak state, they definitely don’t have any soul stones on hand.

How could they possibly get by in the Demon Realm!

Wu Xiaode smiled and asked, "Who’s in charge around here?"

"Brother Shan, it’s the Lizard Man leader Grey Tins, he rules over everything in Ruins City," said the Fire Eye Demon.

Wu Xiaode flicked two of his tentacles and snapped his fingers, then commanded:

"Lead the way, I want to have a talk with him."

The Eye Demons looked at each other again.

Wu Xiaode then smiled and said, "If you guys don’t even have the guts to go talk to the Lizard Men with me, then just stay here."

That statement immediately stirred up the ferocity in the Eye Demons.

All are demons, born into conflict, who would be afraid to fight others?

If it weren’t for them being so weak, these Eye Demons would have been unwilling to endure such bullying.

"Brother Shan, I’m with you," the Wind Eye Demon said through gritted teeth.

"Right, Brother Shan, I’ll lead you to that ugly reptile," the Lin Eye Demon said.

"It’s rare for Brother Shan to take care of us, let’s go!" the Fire Eye Demon added.

Wu Xiaode silently nodded to himself.

The Eye Demon Clan was alright, they just lacked someone capable of handling big affairs.

The group of four Eye Demons made their grand way through the ruined city, soon arriving at the edge of a collapsed bridge.

By the great riverbank, there was a camp emitting a foul stench, littered with various skeletons and desiccated corpses, where all sorts of demons tread carefully.

——The Lizard Men were stationed here.

The Wind Eye Demon floated to the camp entrance and sent a telepathic message to the Lizard Man guard:

"Our boss wants to see Grey Tins, pass on the message."

The Lizard guard appeared surprised.

Since when did an Eye Demon emerge capable of being called a boss?

The leader had given explicit instructions that the Eye Demon Clan was adept at spiritual magic, extremely dangerous, and must be kept under close watch.

"Wait here."

The guard turned and walked towards the camp.

A short while later.

He returned before the few Eye Demons and said, "Come in."

Wu Xiaode led the Eye Demons deeper into the camp.

In the center of the camp was an area of rubble strewn with various pieces of rubber and debris, with a fierce fire burning.

Thick smoke filled the sky.

A large grey-black Lizard Man was standing before the fire, warming himself.

——Lizard Men like to bask in the fire.

They would throw anything burnable into the flames.

If they could, they would have loved to keep a fire burning forever at their settlement.

"Let me see, just who is this boss among the Eye Demons?"

The grey-black Lizard Man said with interest.

Its narrow yellow eyes moved from side to side, fixing on Wu Xiaode.

——This Eye Demon was leading the way, his appearance the most striking.

The other three Eye Demons clearly took their cues from him; he must be the boss of the Eye Demons.

"My name is Shan, and you’re the big boss of this city, right?"

Wu Xiaode stepped forward and said.

"Mountain? The mountain from Green Mountain?" the grey lizard asked.

"Dare not compare with Green Mountain—I am more akin to Little Shan," Wu Xiaode said with a smile.

The grey lizard pulled a burning log from the fire, slowly chewing it in its mouth, nonchalantly saying:

"Your Eye Demon Clan really has some ugly names, one character to represent oneself—what can I say, haven’t you been exposed to the wider world enough?"

The burning log crackled, producing thick smoke that obscured the grey lizard’s expression.

Meanwhile, ripples of distortion spread through the Void around the three Eye Demons.

Faced with insults to their race, they could no longer restrain themselves from fighting.

They were here under the lead of a big shot today precisely to fight!

As they moved, the surrounding Lizard Men all converged, their cold eyes targeting the vital points of the three Eye Demons.

—Eye Demons specialize in ranged magic attacks, whereas Lizard Men are melee combatants.

If a fight broke out, the three Eye Demons would surely be at a disadvantage.

Wu Xiaode waved his tentacles, touching Wind, Lin, and Fire, signaling them to calm down.

He said with a smile, "Brother Hui is right, we Eye Demons have indeed been rooting through trash for too long, hardly seeing the world."

"Hmm, at least you’re sensible," Grey Tins replied, spitting out saliva, seemingly a bit disappointed yet satisfied.

He pulled the log out of his mouth.

The log had been whittled into a sharp spear, its tip still ablaze.

"Speak, what business do you have with me?"

The grey lizard toyed with the burning wooden spear without so much as glancing at Wu Xiaode.

"It’s been a long while since our Eye Demons have been on the battlefield, Brother Hui. Please give us a chance, let us make a mark too," Wu Xiaode said.

"How could that be possible, absolutely not," the grey lizard replied.

"Why not?" Wu Xiaode asked.

"You’re too dangerous, prone to friendly fire. Just go through the motions at the back, no need for you in battle," the grey lizard replied.

"But we need to survive, Brother Hui."

Wu Xiaode twisted several tentacles together into a neat bowknot, speaking leisurely, "Give us a way, huh? Even separating us from the other races is fine; we’ll just find our own direction and head to the battlefield."

The grey lizard cracked a smile and tapped Wu Xiaode’s face with the red-hot wooden spear.

—Eye Demons are all tentacles, except for the muscular tissue around their vertical pupils, which serves to protect their eyes.

That was his face.

"I call the shots in this city, Little Brother Shan. I advise you to roll back from where you came, or else I’ll eat you all up and use your flesh and blood for breakfast—ptooey!"

The grey lizard spat on Wu Xiaode’s face.

Invisible forces in the Void blocked all the spittle.

Wu Xiaode smiled once again.

"Brother Hui, I understand you’re worried about us Eye Demons affecting other races, and I appreciate your concern, but you might have misunderstood something," he said.

"What’s that?"

"We really won’t harm anyone, for instance, I could never hurt you," Wu Xiaode spoke earnestly.

The grey lizard glanced at him.

—Wasn’t my message clear enough, can’t you understand?

You must be an idiot.

The leader of the Eye Demons is such a fool; what’s the point in keeping him around? Might as well eat them!

Murderous intent surged from Grey Tins, but Wu Xiaode had already made his move.

The Book of the Dead floating in mid-air opened on its own.

A skeletal dog leapt out into the fog, clamped onto the hilt of the Desert Sword at Wu Xiaode’s waist, and with a metallic "clang," drew the sword and began running rampage through the camp.

"Lizard Man."

"Weakness: Neck bones too flexible, easily broken."—Sourced from the skeletal dog’s search.

All the Lizard Men in the camp wore various protective gear around their necks, but they could neither see the skeletal dog nor withstand the edge of the Desert Sword—

After all, the Desert Sword’s edge was unparalleled in sharpness!

The skeletal dog charged back and forth through the camp, its sword slicing through the necks of all the Lizard Men.

One by one, bloody Lizard Man heads soared into the sky until only the Lizard Man leader remained.

Clang!

The skeletal dog flung its head, returning the sword to its sheath, rolled its body, and leapt back onto the Book of the Dead.

The wind howled, carrying with it a strong odor of blood that swept across the river.

The camp was silent.

Wu Xiaode stood in front of the fire, letting its light reflect on his casually waving tentacles.

"See, Brother Hui, I told you I wouldn’t harm you."

As he spoke, he gently patted the grey lizard’s face with a tentacle, speaking softly,

"—Do you have any objections now?"
