Chapter 342: Chapter 303: Talking Sense
The level 30 skeleton demon possessed unmatched skills.
It dashed forward a few steps, before dividing into three afterimages, charging at Wu Xiaode from different directions—
This was the "Three Shadows Chasing" skill acquired from the level 10 Trial.
Among the skeleton demon clan, the level 10 "Three Shadows Chasing" was the highest ability for that level.
The three afterimages simultaneously pulled out bone blades from their waists, tracing elusive slashing trajectories through the air—
This was the "Multiple Trajectory Slash" obtained from the level 20 Trial.
It was also a peak skill of level 20!
For decades, very few among the undead had acquired this skill!
The bone blade swung down at the human who had been petrified with terror—
This attack had absorbed the experience and techniques the skeleton demon had gained from countless battles, blending all its abilities into one!
This strike would kill the human undead, sending a shockwave of fear among all the spectating undead!
"Die!"
The skeleton demon roared.
An unexpected change occurred—
Suddenly, the skeleton demon felt something grab its ankle and yank it backwards with great force.
Almost simultaneously, its vision plunged into darkness.
The onlooking undead had no clue what had just happened.
But from Wu Xiaode’s perspective, one could see a bronze hand latched onto the skeleton demon’s ankle.
Another bronze hand covered the skeleton demon’s face.
So—
What difficulty was there in such a battle?
Wu Xiaode rolled up his sleeves and threw a casual punch.
Crack—Creak—
Amidst a somewhat muffled collision sound, the skeleton demon’s front teeth were knocked out. Its body spun like a top midair, then crashed to the ground, rolling away for dozens of meters.
The scene fell silent.
Wu Xiaode spread his hands and said, "See, everybody witnessed it, it tried to eat me, I was merely defending myself."
The level 30 elites from various races exchanged glances, ceased their fighting, and encircled Wu Xiaode.
"Impressive, the Human Race actually produced a level 30 expert."
"Only now do I realize that the main goal of today’s event was to take down the Human Race."
"Yes, our rankings among each other often change, it doesn’t really matter."
"But the Human Race is different, none of us can let them off."
"We absolutely can’t let the Human Race turn the tide, otherwise, we’ll run out of slaves to use in the future."
"Right, no need to talk about rules."
"So everyone means—"
"Kill him!"
The undead from various races said in unison.
As Wu Xiaode listened quietly, he couldn’t help but sigh.
"Wait a second, I have one last thing to say."
He addressed the experts from the various races.
One of the experts said with a chuckle, "Want to speak your last words? You’re already dead, dying again will turn you into stone—fine, speak your piece."
"Here’s the thing," Wu Xiaode earnestly explained, "my sword is not usable, my Soul Power isn’t enough to use swordsmanship, and as for boxing, it also requires enough Soul Power, so I won’t fight with you."
"You think you can escape?" asked the undead expert.
Wu Xiaode no longer looked at him; he simply called out softly:
"Rester."
"Present, master," something in the Void responded.
"Kill them all."
"Understood, master."
The Void twisted.
A massive, unseen presence moved.
...
In front of the historical Stele.
Wu Xiaode’s figure appeared silently.
The Great Witch Demons surrounding the area all looked towards the historical Stele.
They saw the densely inscribed names of the races on the Stele begin to move.
One name rose from the very bottom, reaching the very top above all other racial names.
— "Human Race".
The old Witch Demon in the blood-red robe gave Wu Xiaode a listless glance and muttered,
"It’s been many years since I’ve seen a human undead as spirited as you."
"So?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Us Witch Demons who guard the historical inscriptions are neutral; we cannot interfere in your affairs, and I do not wish to watch you die—everyone, let’s go."
The old Witch Demon waved its hand.
All the Witch Demons promptly followed it into the sky, swiftly disappearing from sight.
Wu Xiaode stood on the historical Stele, and after a moment of contemplation, he figured it out.
Undead Street was indeed a gathering place for the undead of various races below level 30, that was true.
— But that didn’t mean higher-level undead couldn’t enter here!
A rebellion among the humans had occurred here.
Those undead would surely notify higher-level undead powerhouses to come and eradicate this minor nuisance.
Speaking of which, if he had the strength of a Demon God, hundreds of levels above, he too would consider a level 30 matter a minor nuisance.
"If only this were a video game," Wu Xiaode sighed helplessly, "high-level monsters wouldn’t be allowed in low-level maps."
Before his words faded,
The entire sky darkened.
Wu Xiaode looked up.
A massive hand emerged deep in the sky, hovering motionlessly, as though it could fall at any moment.
"Human, you defy the decision of all races, do you know your crime?"
A solemn voice echoed.
Wu Xiaode shrugged and said, "You’re talking about the status of humans, right? Wait a second, I do have a question I’d like to ask."
"— I just can’t quite understand, skeletons were also humans before they died, zombies are just people whose souls have been sealed in their too-long-dead bodies, so why is their status different?"
From the sky, another authoritative voice replied,
"Skeletons and zombies, as well as wraiths and other undead, while human in life, undergo a transformation at the moment of death. They break free from the lowly undead species and leap into a higher form of death, of course it’s different."
"Are they nobler than humans?" Wu Xiaode pressed.
"Correct, their actions and thoughts are no longer the same as those of humans; they are a higher-level Death Race," the voice in the sky declared.
Wu Xiaode was sincerely convinced.
"That makes sense. Look—" he pointed at himself and said, "Though I appear to be in the form of a deceased human, inside my heart lives a skeleton."
"You are a skeleton?" the voice in the sky questioned with surprise.
"Yes, I have not yet shed my human body, but I know some magic that can transform me into a skeleton—so in essence, I am a skeleton, and you cannot treat me the way you treat humans."
"Likewise, just because my appearance is that of a human, you cannot strip away my rights as a skeleton."
There was a moment of silence in the sky.
—It seemed as if those powerful beings had never encountered such a tricky question before.
Even the countless Undead spectating on Undead Street were dumbfounded.
You say your heart is a skeleton?
That’s ridiculous.
Why don’t you claim you’re actually a bone dragon?
As everyone was thinking along these lines, Wu Xiaode raised a finger, cleared his throat, and began to speak:
"As everyone knows about bone dragons,"
"When it is first born, it can only search for suitable bones among countless undead, and thus during its growth, it might be various species until it finally becomes a bone dragon."
"So when it is a dog—"
"Who among you dares say it’s a dog and not a bone dragon?"
There was another deathly silence.
Now no one dared to respond.
Because this was the truth.
If anyone were to refute this deceased human, it would be equivalent to acknowledging that the bone dragon was once each of those species, even a dog.
—Eager to die quickly, are they?
In the midst of silence, a loud "clang" sounded, and three shimmering starlights appeared in the sky.
The Book of the Dead opened up, revealing rows of ice crystal letters:
"In the Death World, one’s race can change; what matters most is what you think you are."
"You have fundamentally shaken the theoretical basis of human inferiority."
"The spark has begun to ignite."
"You have gained three starlights, bringing your total to six."
"Please continue to exert effort."
Wu Xiaode smiled nonchalantly.
After all, it’s just that humans aren’t strong enough, and they have been cut off from the path to ascend as soon as they arrive in the Death World.
If someone could bypass this severed path and grow stronger, they could shake the system.
—Like himself, who had grown up in the human world.
Finally, there was movement in the sky.
Lines of imposing voices whispered behind the clouds:
"I have a feeling this kid is big trouble."
"If they all think like this, everything will be in chaos."
"Let’s deal with this trouble."
"Kill him."
"The sooner, the better!"
The deliberations were complete.
The giant hand hovering in midair suddenly trembled and slammed down towards Wu Xiaode who was on the historical stele with the force of a mountain collapsing.
—This was the death sentence for Wu Xiaode, an order to kill him immediately!
Wu Xiaode looked at the enormous hand and said with a sigh:
"Can’t win the argument, so now you’re putting on a big show?"
Simultaneously.
In the Past Epoch.
Dongsheng Country.
Jiangdong County.
A dull voice rang out:
"A bunch of trash, not at all a challenge for me."
The entire city had become a steel wasteland.
All those gigantic Mobile Battle Armors, towering dozens of meters tall, had been demolished by an exceedingly violent force, their twisted and shattered frames scattered everywhere.
An invisible, gigantic figure walked amongst the steel debris.
Suddenly, a flash of light soared from the distant sky.
"A nuclear bomb?"
The voice sneered.
It reached out and grabbed the missile flying through the air, pulling it instantly through the sky and capturing it in its hand—
Crushing it into a ball.
The missile still exploded.
But at the moment of explosion, the entity casually flicked its hand, flinging it away.
The missile expanded like a sun, shining brightly as it sped across the sky, exploding far away on the other side of the great river.
Only after the explosion’s roar had completely faded away did the voice speak up again:
"...My master is summoning me."
An innumerable number of bronze hands flashed into existence and then disappeared without trace.
Simultaneously.
In the Future Era.
The Death Realm, hidden Trial, Undead Street.
Wu Xiaode stood unmoving on the stele.
Hundreds of bronze arms joined together to form a colossal bronze giant, dozens of meters tall, that landed beside Wu Xiaode and released a thunderous roar:
"Seeking death!"
Clutching the Skull Mace, it swung with all its might, smashing the gigantic hand bearing down from above to smithereens.
Wu Xiaode said dismissively, "Be polite, explain the reason to them properly."
"What reason does my master want to explain to them?" the bronze giant asked.
"Ah, I misspoke; what I mean is, explain to them properly the truth about the Death World—" Wu Xiaode held his fist and casually flicked it, as if shaking off dust.
