Chapter 232: Chapter 208: The Dark Transport!
There were five birds in total.
Four of the birds harbored vigilance in their hearts.
Yet the fifth was ready to attack at any moment.
But you are just a bird, how are you going to attack me?
That’s the problem.
Wu Xiaode turned back and smiled at Nina, "Do you normally have any sworn enemies?"
"Sworn enemies?" Nina blinked her long eyelashes, shaking her head like a rattle-drum: "I don’t have any enemies."
"That’s strange," Wu Xiaode said.
Before the words fell.
From the branches, a bronze hand wielding the Desert Sword slashed towards the black bird.
Almost at the same moment—
Wu Xiaode, with the Chi Xiao Sword in hand, stepped in front of Nina and swung his sword violently in one direction.
Clang!
Two sounds burst out at the same time.
At the treetop, the black bird cried out pitifully as its body was cut down along with the armor that had just appeared.
The Desert Sword is the sharpest of Sword Artifacts!
At Wu Xiaode’s side, a bullet was deflected away.
—That bullet had been aimed at Nina.
There wasn’t just one bird surveilling them, but other people were nearby as well!
They still wanted to kill Nina!
Wu Xiaode’s pupils contracted sharply, his body cloaked in mist, he shouted loudly, "Teleport!"
In an instant.
The mist enveloped him and Nina.
They vanished.
One breath.
Two breaths.
Three breaths.
A figure flew from afar, landing where Wu Xiaode had stood just moments before.
"Strange, how did my bird get exposed?" the figure muttered to himself.
He crouched down, carefully examining the bird’s corpse.
Not far away.
Wu Xiaode and Nina stood still, silently observing the scene.
Indeed.
After shouting the word "teleport," they had not actually teleported, but were hiding in the silent Demon Mist, quietly waiting to see what would happen next.
Wu Xiaode pointed towards the figure.
Nina shook her head, indicating she did not recognize him at all.
Strange.
Why were these people trying to make a move on Nina?
Wu Xiaode stared at the person’s back, falling into contemplation.
The combat power levels in this world had reached level 120, perhaps even higher.
He himself was only at level 21.
With such a large discrepancy, if he wanted to win, he would have to either use his stored Soul Power or transform into a Bright Ghost.
Becoming a Bright Ghost was too torturous, and a mishap could easily lead to a real death instead of a feigned one.
He really did not want to use Bright Ghost unless absolutely necessary.
So.
That left only the Soul Power stored after the livestream.
Using Soul Power again...
Sigh...
Wu Xiaode was even beginning to miss Christina.
Having the Enchanting Demon stand there, Soul Power would flow copiously without needing anything else.
He wasn’t sure if the Soul Power he had on hand could last three days.
The figure then stood up, scanning his surroundings and murmuring to himself, "The people sent by the king should be arriving soon... I’d better hurry back."
He softly chanted a spell.
The next moment.
A flash in the Void, and he was gone.
Nina thought for a moment and whispered to Wu Xiaode, "Could it be that he, like us, didn’t actually leave?"
Wu Xiaode shook his head.
Because of the "Tao of Heaven," he had already sensed the other party’s Directional Transmission Skill.
Not only had he sensed it, but he had also learned it.
"Let’s follow and see," Wu Xiaode said.
"But he teleported away," Nina said, puzzled.
"Just now he used a Directional Transmission Skill, very interesting, something I’ve never encountered before. But now I know how to do it," Wu Xiaode declared.
Nina’s eyes widened in anticipation and she fell silent.
Wu Xiaode silently recited the spell, activating his Soul Power, and the Magic was set.
Whirr—
Ripples spread slightly in the Void.
The two of them disappeared in an instant.
...
In the sky.
A massive warship was hidden among the clouds.
Other colossal ships could be barely made out around it.
The designs of these vessels were those of ancient double-masted sailing ships.
They sailed on the winds, near and far, arrayed in a neat formation in the air.
Wu Xiaode looked around with interest.
His world must have taken the path of Magic at the end of the age of sail, as people transformed sailing ships into vessels capable of flying.
One could easily deduce this just by looking at the Magic Runes engraved on the hull and the continuous waves of Magic Waves undulating around the ships.
"I have a bad feeling about this, Brother Wu," Nina whispered.
"Hmm? What kind of feeling?" Wu Xiaode inquired.
Nina didn’t respond, sprinting to the edge of the ship and peering down.
"Above the border forest," she said with a pale face, "why... this is the Empire’s Magic Crystal Fleet."
"You mean this fleet isn’t supposed to be here?" Wu Xiaode quickly asked.
"Yes, the Magic Crystal Fleet is our strategic force to guard against the evil Star Spirit Clan from the north; they should be stationed at the far northern Frost Winter Star City. It’s unexpected that they have come all the way south to our border with the Elf nation," Nina explained.
"Perhaps it’s a secret order from your father," Wu Xiaode suggested.
Nina shook her head, visibly upset, "No, father would never move them—just yesterday when we were discussing the situation, he told me privately that the Magic Crystal Fleet must stay at the Northern Border, or else the Star Spirit Clan would immediately breach the border and march straight in."
"Do you usually discuss these matters with your father?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Of course, many war strategies come from my suggestions—I’ve had some intuition about the changes in warfare from a young age, shh, don’t tell anyone else," Nina said.
She accidentally kicked a box on the deck.
"Who’s there?" a guard called out.
"What’s happening?" another guard turned to look.
They saw nothing.
The guard was still doubtful, patrolling back and forth to inspect the area, yet there was nothing to be seen.
"A noble just returned, maybe it was the remnant waves of a Magic?"
"Most likely," the other agreed.
The guards dismissed their suspicions and continued their watch at different sides of the deck.
A person who looked like a leader approached and asked, "What are you shouting about?"
"Ah, nothing’s wrong, boss, just now a lord has returned," a guard reported.
"Of course, I know, enough with the surprises, just keep a good watch on the deck!" the leader snapped irritably.
"Yes!" Both men responded in unison.
Suddenly.
An authoritative voice came from inside the cabin:
"Everyone prepare."
"The battle is about to begin."
The leader was startled and hurried toward the command room.
"Captain, what’s the situation, who is the enemy?" he rushed into the command center and asked.
Several figures that looked like leaders were already standing in the command center.
The captain stood in the middle and explained to everyone:
"We just received news—after the incident with Nina, the King pursued as the leader predicted, traveling light and quick."
"—The rest of the fleet’s Magic Crystal Cannons are all ready, only ours are left."
"Pass the order, immediately activate the twelve Magic Crystal Cannons."
One of the leaders questioned, "But the leader has just gone to the King’s camp."
"Everyone prepare! As soon as the leader leaves the camp, the fleet will immediately begin a coordinated fire on the King’s camp!"
"Yes!"
The crowd responded thunderously.
Nina stepped back a few paces, unconsciously grabbing Wu Xiaode’s hand and shaking it forcefully:
"They’re going to commit regicide! These people have all betrayed the empire, Brother Wu."
"But their leader is still in the King’s camp—who could it be?" Wu Xiaode frowned.
He gripped Nina’s hand firmly and drew the Chi Xiao Sword, lightly tracing it through the Void—
The two of them immediately vanished from the warship.
Inside the camp.
A flash of light and shadow.
The two materialized.
"Nina, their leader must have just entered the camp—starting now, don’t let anyone leave the camp!" Wu Xiaode said.
"I’m going to report to my father right now, let father see who that person who just entered the camp is!"
Nina was ready to walk out of the tent immediately.
Wu Xiaode was about to dispel the surrounding Demon Mist when suddenly, his heart stirred.
A very ominous premonition surfaced in his mind.
The Book of the Dead opened in response.
Walls of "sighs" produced dense, heavy black mist.
This was an omen of death.
What would happen?
"Nina, be careful—"
Wu Xiaode stepped forward and pulled Nina back, enveloping her again in the Demon Mist.
"What’s wrong, Brother Wu?"
Nina asked, not understanding.
"...Something feels off," Wu Xiaode said gravely.
He glanced at his remaining power reserves.
Soul Power: 4,100,000.
Will Power: 950,000.
...A fight would be possible.
But let’s see what the situation is first.
He released a denser Demon Mist that enveloped him and Nina, then holding her hand, they slowly stepped out of the tent.
It was quiet all around.
A tall man in black Battle Armor and a red cloak stood silently in front of a campfire.
A smile appeared on Nina’s face, and she immediately wanted to approach.
Wu Xiaode pulled her back once again.
Nina looked back at him and whispered, "That’s my brother, the Prince of the empire, let me introduce you."
"I haven’t seen him before," Wu Xiaode said.
"No matter, let’s get to know each other now—"
Nina’s voice stopped abruptly.
Indeed.
He wasn’t part of this group before.
That is to say, he came while she and Little Wu were out investigating.
He had just arrived.
And—
The Magic Crystal Fleet said their leader had just entered the camp.
Could it be—
Disbelief appeared in Nina’s eyes.
Suddenly.
The King’s main tent opened.
Two groups of people came out from within.
Wu Xiaode watched those people silently, squinting his eyes.
The one leading them was the Court Mage who had spoken to him at the earlier banquet.
In his hands, he held a crown, and he approached the Prince, kneeling on one knee:
"The King’s testament has been found, hidden in his ring."
"Speak," said the Prince.
"The succession is to Nina, she is the new Queen of Auffa Country," the Mage declared.
With a cold laugh, the Prince took out a snow-white handkerchief and wiped the blood from his hands clean.
There was silence all around, no one spoke.
"Where is Nina?" the Prince inquired.
"She’s disappeared," the Mage replied.
"...Notify the Magic Crystal Fleet, save the cannons, have everyone else disperse into the woods, and bring me Nina’s head," the Prince commanded.
"Yes!" the Mage responded.
Everyone vanished in a flash, leaving the encampment area to pursue in all directions.
In the camp, only the Prince remained.
Wu Xiaode, seeing that Nina was about to rush forward, immediately pulled her back and restrained her.
The Prince spoke softly, "Your souls are so restless, still lingering around..."
Suddenly, his voice rose, "All beings within the abyss, heed my command and devour these wandering souls."
Wu Xiaode’s eyes widened in shock.
He saw a giant hand emanating dark flame emerge from the Void beside the Prince.
The Book of the Dead also flipped open, revealing lines of ice crystal text:
"Initiating an unknown wide-range Transmission Skill!"
"Impossible to avoid!"
Whoosh—
Endless darkness swept from the vast land into the sky.
The whole lake, along with the area where the carriages rested, was engulfed in this dark radiance.
The world spun.
The next moment.
Wu Xiaode felt solid ground beneath his feet.
He steadied Nina, who was beside him, and looked around.
—This was the Death Demon Cave.
