Chapter 566: Chapter 262 Hearing the Way in the Morning_2
Everyone stopped in their tracks.
Chen Shi raised his hand, and the expanded umbrella rapidly shrunk, transforming the Heavenly Gods and divine symbols into talismans that returned to the surface and shaft of the umbrella before falling into his hands.
However, the runes on the umbrella had significantly dimmed as a result.
But the Luotian Dajiao still managed to block the artillery attack!
Yet the ancient temple where they had taken refuge crumbled under the barrage, ceasing to exist.
Leaning on the umbrella, Chen Shi wondered, "Could it be the Divine Mechanism Camp bombarding us?"
He had seen the Divine Mechanism Camp bombard Xiao Wangsun before, and many of the camp’s experts descended like Heavenly Gods amidst the thunderfire, besieging Xiao Wangsun atop the hill, the combination of the mighty Red Barbarian cannons and the Cultivators’ personal strength created a kill zone, even flattening an entire mountain peak!
Such a powerful figure as Xiao Wangsun nearly lost his life on the spot.
But wasn’t the head of the Divine Mechanism Camp Jin Hongying?
Could it be that Jin Hongying, regardless of past affections, was plotting to kill him on the road?
After all, they had once peeped at Little Jin bathing; how could she be so heartless?
Sun Yisheng, suppressing his injuries, thought to himself, "Ever since we started westward, my wounds have never healed..."
He had taken the brunt of the artillery fire, and with old injuries recurring, couldn’t help but feel some despondence.
As the thunderfire cleared, the ground ahead was melted and sending up billowing steam, which even he found somewhat daunting.
In the distance, artillery fire erupted again, as streaks of light flew towards them.
"Run back!" Chen Shi shouted loudly.
Realization struck everyone, and they immediately sprinted back the way they came.
Once fired, these bullets could not turn in mid-air; as long as they ran back and escaped the artillery range, they could save their lives.
After all, the Red Barbarian cannons were heavy and difficult to move; they just needed to exceed their relocation speed.
Their levels of cultivation varied, as did their running speeds, so they each activated their Armored Horse Talismans, unable to escape the artillery’s range in such a short time.
Sun Yisheng hurried to keep up with the wooden cart, looking up to see those projectiles dragging fire and thunder across the sky, curving through the air and, impossibly, changing direction towards them!
Sun Yisheng lost focus for a moment and exclaimed, "These bullets are talismanic weapons!"
Bullets, single-use items, when crafted with the ways of talismanic weapons – repeatedly inscribed with talismans, and consecrated with incense – could, over time, become sentient. They could then be controlled in flight.
However, such bullets were most certainly not cheap!
"Who on earth has the power to commandeer the Divine Mechanism Camp’s forces to intercept us?"
Sun Yisheng, considering Chen Tang’s instructions, felt a stir in his heart, "Could it be the Thirteen Families?"
He and Chen Shi, one on each side, led the others, charging forward like raging dragons traversing a desolate plain.
And above their heads, the lightning and flames closed in rapidly!
"Mr. Sun, how did they pinpoint our location?" Chen Shi shouted.
Sun Yisheng had an epiphany and called out loudly, "The sky! There must be spies hidden among the clouds, following our movements and monitoring our actions!"
As the bullets neared, Chen Shi spurred the umbrella into action; the umbrella flew up as he shouted, "Take care of the spies, I’ll guard the wooden cart!"
Sun Yisheng hesitated for a moment but saw the umbrella growing larger, covering an area of an acre. From within the umbrella, a Sword Qi burst forth, cleaving open a dark spring that, on the other side, astonishingly led to the yin energy-filled underworld.
A bullet the size of a human head arrived, plunging into the dark spring, then exploded thunderously in the underworld.
Seeing this, Sun Yisheng no longer hesitated and his Primordial Spirit soared upwards, reaching the high skies above and scanning around. He spotted three clouds following the wooden cart, about four to five miles above the ground.
His Primordial Spirit screamed towards them, headed straight for the clouds.
Each of the three clouds concealed a person, lying hidden within them, their bodies affixed with Thunder Avoidance Talismans.
The clouds beneath their feet were also specially crafted, a talisman capable of being activated to float in the air.
As he approached, the three figures rose from the clouds, one of them waving a flag. Suddenly, thunder and fire roared towards him.
This flag was a talismanic weapon, inscribed with thunder and fire talismans, complemented by gunpowder, dreadfully powerful.
Sun Yisheng spurred his Taoist Skill; his Primordial Spirit collided headlong into the oncoming attack, the Skill trembling amidst the explosions from the thunder, fire, and gunpowder.
He passed through the inferno, Sword Qi in hand, decapitating one attacker, then immediately turned with a sword light flying out to meet another charging opponent.
The man faced the splitting sword light: one into two, two into four, four into eight, continuing to divide!
In the face of danger, the man, undaunted, channeled his Taoist Skill, as if having grown hundreds of arms, each commanding a Skill, blocking the oncoming cutting lights.
However, when the sword light divided for the tenth time, he could no longer hold them back.
"Chish chish chish!"
The sword lights pierced through from all directions.
His eyes widened as he struggled to keep his body from falling apart, his voice fierce, "Chen Tang’s Xuanwei Sword Scripture?"
Sun Yisheng’s Primordial Spirit flew past him, his voice entering the man’s ears, "You recognize the Xuanwei Sword Scripture? So you must be one of the high-ranking experts from the West Capital Divine Mechanism Camp. I have only learned up to the tenth division of Mr. Chen’s Sword Scripture. Had you been able to block the tenth division, I couldn’t have killed you."
"Is Chen Tang really that strong?"
The man, his brow furrowed in anger, clenched his teeth, "I don’t believe it!"
Unable to maintain his form any longer, he suddenly burst into countless pieces.
Sun Yisheng pursued the last person, taking a hurried glance downwards, only to see, beneath the Hua Gai, a treasured sword moving like a traveling dragon, sending each incoming projectile into the underworld.
Those bullets exploded thunderously in the underworld but did not harm them.
Some bullets veered off course, detonating around the wooden cart, creating waves of fire and turbulent shockwaves that swept everything away, but the cart sped on, flinging the blast waves and shockwaves behind it.
However, the bullets were too fast; if there was any error, they all likely would perish under that umbrella!
