Chapter 494: Chapter 234 Tongue-pulling Hell _2
The five of them each frowned, Saintess Xuan was injured, even if they took her to the Mysterious Transformation Furnace, they feared it would be of little help.
"Perhaps we should notify Fuzheng Pavilion?" someone suggested.
Fuzheng Pavilion was different from the various powers under the young master’s command.
Under the young master, there existed all sorts of forces, like the Taiping Sect harvesting Resurrection Lotuses, Rouge Lane involved in the trade of pleasure, Mingfeng Pavilion performing opera, Joy Forest gambling, the Red Lady Society matchmaking, and Hundred Refinement Hall refining treasures.
Their businesses were different, as were their sects.
But Fuzheng Pavilion was different.
Fuzheng Pavilion consisted of a group of capable people and men of lofty ideals under the young master, similar in structure to the Heavenly Strategy Mansion of the Tang Dynasty, forming a microcosm of the court, devising strategies for the young master, leading troops, or coordinating with various factions.
The people of Fuzheng Pavilion came from noble families, righteous sects, or were recluses who appeared once in a generation, a mix of all sorts.
But without exception, they all possessed extremely high cultivation achievements!
After some hesitation, the five of them finally made up their minds.
"Contact the Fuzheng Pavilion!"
In the carriage pulled by deer, Saintess Xuan still seemed somewhat distracted.
She had joined Baili Mu in leaving the city to encircle and suppress Chen Shi, thinking that with the abilities of the Banshan Sect and Hundred Refinement Hall, they would easily capture him, but had not expected so many to die!
She had never seen so many dead bodies!
More than a thousand corpses hung from trees, swaying like leaves in the wind, a sight both grand and eerie!
She composed herself, only to realize that the carriage had come to the surface of the lake, looking as far as the eye could see, Baili Mu was nowhere to be found, and looking back, she had no idea where the land was.
The two plum deer raced along, pulling the carriage. These two deer were exotic creatures, capable of treading on auspicious clouds and ascending, but having run for so long, they too were getting tired, panting heavily.
"Sect Master Baili!" Saintess Xuan called out.
Her voice echoed far across the lake, where a mist had risen without knowing when, the echoes resounding within it.
"Sect Master Baili!"
"Sect Master Baili!"
It was as if another her was calling out from within the mist, or as if something was hiding in it, mimicking her voice.
Saintess Xuan became alert, knowing well that the waters of the Five Great Lakes were vast like the sea, and the lakes were full of strange occurrences.
She had heard many rumors, of merchant ships frequently encountering dragon-like creatures roaming in the lakes, or seeing ghosts from the underworld. There were also tales of Demon monsters from the seas swimming against the current to the lakes, lurking in the mists to devour people.
"Sect Master Baili!" The calling voice was getting closer, still imitating her.
Saintess Xuan demanded, "Who are you?"
The voice in the mist replied, "I am Ji Xuanxuan, a disciple under the Bodhi Dojo’s Master Miao Yin. And who might you be?"
The mist cleared, and another deer-pulled carriage appeared, another Saintess Xuan sitting upright within it, her presence solemn and divine.
This woman, with an air of sanctity about her, looked angrily toward Saintess Xuan, "Who is this Demon imposter daring to pose as a disciple of Buddhist Holy Land?"
Saintess Xuan let out a cold laugh, formed the Lion’s Seal with her hands, and shouted, "Since you claim to be a disciple of the Buddhist school, then do you dare recite a Buddhist scripture with me?"
The other Saintess Xuan sneered, "Why wouldn’t I dare?"
Saintess Xuan shouted, "Om, nu, nu, mo, yin, li, ga, yin, xi, di, sa, po, er, he, yin, ka, yin!"
The other Saintess Xuan followed in recitation, but as she reached the word "di," she suddenly spat out blood, her body twisted, and the carriage pulled by the two plum deer exploded with a bang!
Saintess Xuan looked into the water to see several fish Demons that had been refined to death by Buddhist Law, belly-up.
"A Demon causing trouble, ignorant of heaven and earth, dares to recite the True Words of Kali Devi with me. A death well-deserved!"
Just as she spoke, the sky suddenly darkened.
Saintess Xuan looked up to the sky, only to find that the two suns had, unbeknownst to her, closed their eyes, leaving only the moon hanging in the canopy of the sky.
One moon in the sky.
One moon on the lake.
The moon followed the carriage.
A gentle breeze came, bringing a hint of chill.
Saintess Xuan was anxious in her heart, the lake was too vast, she had not found Baili Mu nor Chen Shi, and she could not even find the way back!
At that moment, she saw a light emanating from the surface of the lake, her heart filled with joy, and she hurriedly urged the sika deer to run toward it.
Upon approaching the light, the sika deer dared not get too close. Beneath those lanterns were several cargo ships, manned by white bone skeletons dressed in garments, moving about the deck, some steering, others adjusting the sails.
"They must be the souls who met their demise on the lake!"
Saintess Xuan was startled and stopped her carriage with the intentions of liberating these wrongly dead ghosts, so they would not have to relive the day of their death over and over again. Unexpectedly, as soon as the carriage stopped, the two sika deer started frothing at the mouth and sank into the water.
—The two deer had been running for a day and a night, with no rest, and ultimately died from exhaustion.
Saintess Xuan then chanted sutras, liberating the white bone skeletons on the ships and the exhausted sika deer before setting off alone.
"Crash—"
An immense sound erupted, followed by a violent tremor on the lake, raising gigantic waves that flung Saintess Xuan into the air, and she crashed heavily into the lake!
Startled, she righted herself and looked in the direction of the tremor, only to see a tremendous landmass rising up from the middle of the lake, its other end becoming visible above the water, vast beyond measure. The land was dotted with indistinct mountain ranges that seemed to stretch endlessly, apparently with no edge in sight!
"This landmass, could it be larger than the Great Southern Lake?"
Saintess Xuan was alarmed as she walked toward this suddenly emerged landmass, when suddenly, she unintentionally saw her reflection in the water. To her surprise, she appeared as a skeleton reflecting her every move beneath the surface.
In the hands of her skeletal reflection was also a colossal furnace, the Mysterious Transformation Furnace, only this one was covered in rust, its power completely eroded, as if it had endured the corrosion of endless years.
Saintess Xuan gazed at the skeleton, understood the profound mystery of this likeness and unlikeness, and her heart leapt with joy, feeling her cultivation improving once more.
She walked toward this arriving piece of land, a landmass so vast that no end was in sight.
Saintess Xuan traversed this land, and from the shadowy corners, small creatures appeared to be peeking out. When she looked their way, they would hide, vanishing without a trace.
When she looked away, they re-emerged.
Just as Saintess Xuan was about to discern what these little creatures were, she suddenly heard Baili Mu’s voice coming from afar, "Chen Shi, you drew me over here but now you hide, what are you plotting?"
He was still quite far away, around several tens of miles, and the glow emanated by his Primordial Spirit was faint.
"Chen Shi is here too?"
Saintess Xuan’s heart jolted with surprise and then she saw the sly Chen Shi.
At the same moment Saintess Xuan saw Chen Shi, he too spotted her and immediately dashed towards her, closing the distance in an instant and aiming a knee strike!
Saintess Xuan leaped back, attempting to strike Chen Shi with the Mysterious Transformation Furnace, thinking to herself, "I was ambushed by you at close range before... He’s so fast!"
She didn’t have time to activate the Mysterious Transformation Furnace before Chen Shi’s knee had already struck her abdomen!
Saintess Xuan grunted, tumbling backward, enduring the intense pain, regretting her decision to use the Mysterious Transformation Furnace.
Activating a magical treasure was, after all, a beat too slow, especially since it wasn’t hers to begin with.
As she was about to summon the shrine, Chen Shi had already caught up to her, delivering a punch that struck the back of her head, sealing her Jade Pillow acupoint.
Saintess Xuan was about to perform Nascent Soul Emergence when Chen Shi’s other hand already covered her forehead.
With a thud, Saintess Xuan fell to the ground, rolling and crashing about until she finally came to a stop more than ten yards away.
Her heart burned with anger and immense shame, "Could it be that my cultivation technique, my abdomen, the back of my head, and the gate of heaven, have flaws?"
Chen Shi caught the Hundred Changes Furnace that almost hit the ground and gently set it down.
Seeing this, Saintess Xuan coughed up blood and observed him, then suddenly said, "You’re afraid of Baili Mu! You’re avoiding him! You fear a direct confrontation with him! Am I right, Chen Shi?"
Chen Shi glanced at her, not denying it, "Indeed, I am afraid of him. When he killed Yanmu with a single seal, I knew that, even with all my skills, I am no match for him. Ever since I arrived on the lake, I’ve been trying to avoid him, but somehow, he still chased me here."
Saintess Xuan’s eyes showed a hint of astonishment; this man was unexpectedly candid!
"Then why do you still provoke Baili Mu?" she inquired.
"A man should rather lose the battle than submit in words."
Chen Shi smiled, "He’s at the Divine Descent Realm, and I’m of the Nascent Soul Realm. I can’t beat him in a fight, but I can certainly outdo him in a war of words."
Saintess Xuan suppressed her pain and said, "I never thought you’d be so honest."
Chen Shi’s expression turned serious, "Because this is Tongue-pulling Hell, and here, lying results in having your tongue pulled out. Do you believe my words?"
"I..."
Just as Saintess Xuan was about to speak, she suddenly became alert.
Chen Shi, puzzled, asked, "Saintess, is something troubling you?"
