Chapter 250: Chapter 133 Chen Shi Ascends to Divinity_2
The red-bellied doll tottered over.
Li Tianqing, who was washing clothes, originally saw firewood floating around the hearth and knew there was an invisible "person" between them. It was only when Chen Shi called out that he guessed the truth. He thought, "No wonder I always see Doggy talking to the air and something playing with Doggy’s ears. Wait a minute, Doggy talking to himself?"
He felt something was off, but couldn’t figure out what it was.
Little Date ran to Chen Shi’s side, looking up at him.
"Stick your butt out," Chen Shi said with a laugh.
Little Date turned around and stuck out his butt.
Chen Shi breathed on the West King Jade Seal again and stamped it on its snowy white butt, laughing, "I’m giving you a stamp so you won’t get lost!"
Little Date straightened up, twisted its body to look at its butt, and upon seeing the golden stamp, was both shocked and delighted. It hurriedly bowed repeatedly to Chen Shi, like a little adult.
Chen Shi was puzzled and said, "Why are you bowing? Tianqing, Tianqing, I stamped Little Date’s butt, and it keeps bowing to me. What does it mean?"
Li Tianqing asked, "What is Little Date?"
"A nutcase mother from Sanhe Village, just a little guy."
Chen Shi briefly explained the situation with the human-headed date tree, saying, "It’s quite a powerful deity, and I was worried it might do harm, so I took it in to refine its evil spirit."
Li Tianqing stopped his chores, thought for a moment, then suddenly remembered a similar situation he had read about in ancient Li Family scrolls. He laughed and said, "You stamped it, and it’s asking for a domain from you. In ancient times, a seal symbolized power and granting a seal meant awarding a domain. It thinks you could grant it a new territory to act as a mother."
"A new territory?"
Chen Shi was surprised and laughed, "Is that so?"
Who doesn’t dream of being an Emperor?
Chen Shi dreamed of it every day.
He hurriedly brought over a chair, sat down majestically with his hand supporting the West King Jade Seal, and said solemnly, "Little Date, today I appoint you as, as..."
Little Date looked at him expectantly. Chen Shi thought hard. The nearby villages all had their mothers, and in Qianyang Mountain, there were wild mothers and the Qianyang Mountain Lord, along with the Great Snake Xuan Shan and other provisional mountain lords, and every town had its mother too.
Suddenly, Chen Shi’s eyes lit up and declared, "I appoint you as the Black Mountain Lord, to govern the mothers within a hundred miles of Black Mountain, to expel evil and protect the people. Take up your post immediately!"
Little Date was inexplicably excited, knelt on the ground, and knocked its head against the ground several times toward Chen Shi. Suddenly, it turned into a wisp of blue smoke and vanished.
"Little Date!"
Chen Shi jumped up from his chair, shouting, "Where did you go? Come back! Date? Date? Oh no!"
He was sweating profusely from his forehead, "I was just speaking offhandedly, did this silly child really rush off to Black Mountain to assume his post? This little one, now without his true body, might be killed by evil spirits and mothers! Tianqing, Black Pot, save some lunch for me, I’m off to Black Mountain!"
"Woof!" barked Black Pot.
Chen Shi rushed out the house door and upon reaching the outskirts of the village, saw dozens of odd-looking people scattered around Huangpo Village’s corners, each with ears over a yard long, opened like palm-leaf fans, facing his location!
"True God’s Apostle, Heaven Listeners!"
He was slightly startled, "So many! Are they all here to eavesdrop on me?"
His heart sank, realizing that he would have to be careful with what he said to Tianqing from now on, unable to speak freely.
Following the Jade Belt River, he activated his True Qi and crossed De River.
Around him, within a hundred yards, the ears of the Heaven Listeners suddenly fluttered like wings, carrying them into the air.
Their ears were enormous, attached to their heads, and their bodies, which were heavier, dangled below like little beans beneath two giant ears.
Using their ears to fly, they were surprisingly agile and nimble, even able to take out paper and pens in mid-air to continue writing and drawing.
"Persistent buggers! When will I be free from suspicion?"
Chen Shi was somewhat annoyed, "Who knows if me playing emperor in the village and rewarding a homeless evil spirit will be recorded by these people as high treason and creating chaos?"
He grew curious about the little notebooks carried by the Heaven Listeners and really wanted to see how they were documenting him.
Black Mountain.
Ever since Chen Shi had eradicated the Granny of Black Mountain, her temple was also destroyed, and her progeny animals were slaughtered to extinction, leaving no significant survivors.
Originally, Granny’s temple had dominated many villages and towns within a hundred miles, and the godmothers of each village and town had to worship Granny every year, offering incense. Since Granny passed away, the godmothers from all the villages and towns breathed a sigh of relief. The spirits and evil entities of the Black Mountain area relaxed as well, no longer oppressed.
One day, suddenly, a wisp of blue smoke rose from the ruins of Granny’s temple, transforming into a huge date tree, over thirty feet tall and covering half of the mountain.
People marveled from a distance, seeing the tree bore many big, bright red dates, about hundreds, some as large as washbasins, strikingly vibrant in color.
As they approached, they saw that what hung from the tree were not dates but human heads, all blood-stained and hence red, faces smeared with varied frightening colors.
"An evil spirit is at work!"
The crowd screamed and scattered in terror.
Quickly, the godmothers of the villages, towns, and hamlets within a hundred miles of Black Mountain, along with wandering spirits, received the message through the smoke signal and rushed to Black Mountain, surrounding the human-head date tree.
Xiao Zao was sitting in a makeshift shrine built from bricks and stones, surrounded by men and women, old and young, along with various oddly shaped godmothers and spirits, all looking unfriendly and staring at Xiao Zao.
"Was it you who summoned us here to worship you as the new Lord of Black Mountain?"
The fiery-tempered godmother from Guangxia Village stepped forward and challenged, "What abilities do you have to declare yourself the Black Mountain Lord? A foreign kid wanting to be the Mountain Lord, can you defeat us?"
Xiao Zao stood up from the shrine, causing a collective gasp among the spirits, who took a step back.
A dragon crossing the river surely has its prowess; they had been enslaved by Granny for too long, outwardly strong but hollow on the inside, afraid to stir trouble.
Xiao Zao turned around, presented his buttocks, and showed off a golden seal stamp on it, proudly saying, "Look at this!"
The spirits crowded forward, and upon seeing the content of the golden seal, they all knelt in unison, bowing and saying, "We worship the Black Mountain Lord!"
Xiao Zao turned, sat down on the shrine, and chuckled, "Rise."
The godmothers and spirits got up one by one, each offering a wisp of incense smoke that floated towards Xiao Zao and was absorbed by him, signifying their loyalty.
Chen Shi arrived at Black Mountain, watching this scene from afar with a relieved smile.
He felt like an old father, thinking Xiao Zao had grown up and could stand on his own, so he didn’t go forward and turned to head home.
Around him, in the forests, the fields, and over the river, numerous Heaven Listeners, flapping their large ears, took flight, following Chen Shi.
"West King Jade Seal, does it truly possess the power to confer godhood?"
As Chen Shi headed home, he played with the West King Jade Seal, and upon reaching Huangpo Village, he was struck with a thought, not rushing home for meal and instead heading to the Yellow Earth Hill.
He shared the strange events involving the West King Jade Seal with Zhu Xiucai, who was hanging from a tree. Zhu Xiucai fell silent for a long while, then asked, "Have you seen the True King?"
Chen Shi lightly nodded.
Zhu Xiucai continued, "The True King took the Jade Seal from you, and the Jade Seal then floated, absorbing the geographic maps of fifty provinces into it. You jumped up and captured the Jade Seal, didn’t the True King take it back?"
Chen Shi nodded again.
Zhu Xiucai choked up and began tearing up, saying, "This was supposed to be deserved by the unworthy descendant of Xiao Wangsun, take good care of it."
His crying grew into sobbing, eventually turning into loud wails, unable to contain his emotions.
Chen Shi stood helplessly, unsure why his mentor was so emotionally overwhelmed, and he didn’t know how to comfort him.
Around the Yellow Earth Hill, numerous Heaven Listeners were frantically writing on paper, rapidly sketching and recording, and one of them compiled the information gathered, writing down "Chen Shi receives the West King Jade Seal for conferring godhood," folding it into a paper crane, and gently blew on it.
The paper crane flapped its wings, gradually flying higher into the sky, transforming into a pure white immortal crane, soaring upwards, speeding towards Xin Xiang Province.
Just then, a scarlet tongue shot out, wrapped around the white crane with a swoosh, and retracted quickly.
A tall, handsome young man stepped forward, chewing and still with feathers hanging on the corners of his mouth.
"Heaven Listeners?"
His gaze fell on the Heaven Listeners, he chuckled softly, "You remind me of a taste I once had. Unknowingly, ten years have passed, truly a nostalgic flavor."
—I am rushing to finish writing; my sister-in-law’s funeral is this afternoon, and she will be buried tomorrow, I might not be able to update!
