Chapter 224: Chapter 121 Your Name (Asking for Votes at the Beginning of the Month)
Chen Shi worried about the mental state of the captured spirit. It neither communicated with him nor went mad and caused trouble, it simply sat atop the altar, assisting his cultivation.
Previously captured Evil Spirits, even the Three Ghost Kings, would struggle and resist for a long time before resigning themselves to fate and obediently sitting atop the altar. Even if they were well-disciplined, they wouldn’t take the initiative to help him manage his Qi.
Yet the plump baby would eat if given incense, not cry or cause trouble if not, and would even help him with Qi Refinement in its free time.
If he wanted to perform a Sacrificial Refinement, it did not resist at all.
It even helped Chen Shi constrain his Sword Qi, and with its assistance, Chen Shi felt his Sword Qi’s power greatly enhanced and more smoothly controlled.
"From now on, you’ll be called Little Date," Chen Shi named the plump baby.
The Date Tree Nanny did not resist, appearing to have resigned herself to fate.
Chen Shi activated his True Qi, treating Little Date as a Divine Embryo, attempting to stimulate it.
His Divine Embryo was not a normal one in the traditional sense, which often only had the function of balancing Qi and harmonizing yin and yang. Instead, Chen Shi’s Divine Embryo often was an Evil Spirit, which after being animated, retained the abilities of the Evil Spirit.
Little Date was formerly a nanny, still in the state of an Evil Spirit, and once Chen Shi animated it, a towering date tree suddenly emerged behind him. Its branches, like coiling dragons, bore dates as large as human heads, emitting hee-hee ha-ha laughter.
This scene even startled Chen Shi.
Dingding was so frightened that she quickly hid behind the Black Pot, and only after seeing there was no danger did she cautiously emerge.
She had narrowly escaped being killed by the Date Tree Nanny and knew well the horror of Little Date.
Little Date’s evil energy was so heavy it could even contaminate her Golden Core, causing her Primordial Qi to still be greatly weakened.
Chen Shi’s True Qi circulated, and he found that the Sacrificial Refinement of Little Date went extremely smoothly. He pointed with his finger, only to see the ground crack open, revealing dark, enormous roots that writhed like venomous dragons, forcing the ground to split, creating intersecting cracks.
The corpses from the village tumbled into the fissures, and the Date Tree retracted its roots while the cracks slowly closed again.
Chen Shi went from house to house, burying all the village corpses. Those that hadn’t fallen into the fissures required him to push them in by hand.
If he did not hurry to bury these bodies, moonlight might shine upon them, and it was feared they would all undergo a strange transformation.
By then, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Evil Spirits and corpse demons would likely arise, becoming an intense headache for all.
Dingding also came to help. With so many deaths in the village, it would have taken Chen Shi all day and night to bury them alone. Even with her help, they were busy until late at night.
The two were exhausted, especially Dingding. Although she was the personal maid of Lady Huali, attending to her daily needs, she had never done heavy labor, especially something as horrifying as burying so many corpses.
It was quite a thrilling first outing with Chen Shi.
Chen Shi had initially planned to settle for the night in the village, but Dingding firmly refused, so he hung Peach Talismans at the four corners of the wooden cart, lit lanterns, and had the Black Pot carry them as they traveled through the night.
They arrived at Yanfeng Village, where Chen Shi stood outside the village, first offering incense to the Nanny within, praying and blessing, and only after the village Nanny had accepted the incense did they enter.
The villagers of Yanfeng were amazed; it was indeed a remarkable thing for someone to travel at night and still arrive alive in the village.
The villagers initially did not intend to shelter them, but hearing Chen Shi claim to be a Talisman Master and producing some talismans, they felt relieved.
However, the villagers still misunderstood, thinking they were a young couple, and arranged a room for them which made Dingding blush and she kept casting glances at Chen Shi.
Understanding, Chen Shi whispered, "Don’t worry, I’ll deal with it."
He asked another household for a room for guests.
That night, both were somewhat tired. Chen Shi prepared and decocted medicinal herbs, practiced his cultivation, and consequently slept a little later.
The next morning, they got up a bit late.
Chen Shi dressed neatly and went to fetch water to wash up. Before he reached the well, he heard several women by the well discussing with Dingding whether little roosters would crow or not.
"If the little rooster doesn’t crow, it’s either lost interest, or it’s interested in another hen," one woman said.
Another woman raised her hand to wipe her forehead with the back of her hand, "It’s also possible it’s taken a liking to little roosters."
The experienced village women chimed in, "Could it be the rooster is still young and will crow eventually?"
Dingding’s face was flushed. Seeing Chen Shi arrive, she hurriedly said, "The little rooster... Mister Chen has arrived, silence!"
The women laughed at the sight of Chen Shi, who didn’t understand what was happening, fetched water to wash up, and saw a child in the well. He swung the bucket, allowing the child to sit inside.
The child inside the well looked up at him in surprise and asked in confusion, "Brother, can you see me?"
Chen Shi nodded and pulled him out of the well, asking softly, "What were you doing in the well?"
"I was playing hide-and-seek with friends, couldn’t find a place to hide, so I thought of hiding in the well. I was holding onto the edge of the well, but my hand slipped and I fell in."
The child was dripping wet, "My parents came here looking for me. I’ve been calling for them, but they can’t hear me. No one else can see me, I couldn’t get out, so I stayed in the well."
Chen Shi understood and asked, "Do you remember where your home is? I’ll take you there."
"I remember!"
The child walked excitedly ahead while Chen Shi followed, concerned some Door God talisman might keep him outside.
Dingding and the women at the well were astonished, watching Chen Shi seemingly talk to thin air, then lifting his hand as if he were holding something invisible, and they all felt a sense of eeriness.
Chen Shi approached an old house, its gate in disrepair, with no talismans like the Door God in sight.
