Chapter 206: Chapter 112: Tian Peng Subdues the Demon, The Fierce God Descends to the Mortal World_2
Chen Shi recalled hearing Yan Jingsi’s footsteps but not being able to sense her presence, whereas he could sense Fu Leisheng when he focused.
"Mr. Fu, can you conceal all your aura?"
Upon hearing this, Fu Leisheng immediately gathered his aura. Chen Shi tried to sense him again but could still detect Fu Leisheng’s presence. Chen Shi then said, "There is a Cultivator in the Nascent Soul Realm whom I can hear walking but can’t sense any aura from. To which level of the Nascent Soul does that belong?"
Fu Leisheng’s expression turned solemn as he replied, "That is known as the Six Harmonies. The three elements—essence, energy, and spirit—are unified; after this unity, one can cultivate a Nascent Soul. Then, the hands merge with the eyes, the eyes with the body, and the body with the Nascent Soul, resulting in the Six Harmonies. Achieving the Six Harmonies means the Nascent Soul and the body are one; one can internally observe the five viscera and six bowels without leaking a trace of breath. Because of the Six Harmonies, controlling the Nascent Soul is like controlling the body. Only after the Six Harmonies can one achieve Nascent Soul Emergence without injury. The person you speak of has refined their Nascent Soul to the Six Harmonies stage."
He continued, "This person’s Nascent Soul sits in the void, untouched by all spells, and his body, akin to sitting in the void, is similarly invulnerable. I have only just entered the Nascent Soul Realm and have come to understand this much; my knowledge is still quite limited."
Chen Shi bowed and said, "Thank you for enlightening me. Sir, it is getting late; I must return home."
Fu Leisheng nodded gently and watched him walk toward Qianyang Mountain; then, suddenly, he called out, "Chen Shi!"
Chen Shi stopped in his tracks, and Fu Leisheng said, "A gentleman has what he does and what he abstains from. Know what is doable and do it, know what is not and refrain. This was said by Mencius; you should reflect on it deeply."
Chen Shi, who had been looking grave, relaxed and laughed, "The words of a sage certainly have merit; thank you for your guidance, sir."
Fu Leisheng sighed in relief and responded with a smile, "As long as you understand."
Chen Shi departed.
Fu Leisheng also returned to Bridge Bay Town.
"Mr. Fu is so kind, using Mencius’s words to instruct me," said Chen Shi to Black Pot, "Mencius must be a disciple of the master. He makes a lot of sense; a gentleman fights only when he can win and refuses to do so when he cannot. Before the fight, one must know whether they can win, and if not, then don’t fight. Mencius is truly bold and follows in the master’s steps. I think I need to read Mencius’s books to cultivate my character."
Doggie felt something was off but couldn’t refute since it all seemed to make sense.
Chen Shi returned to Huangpo Village and, using Black Dog Blood, drew talismans all night long.
He drew more than a dozen Warrior Talismans and also Spring Rain Talismans, Rain Praying Talismans, Armored Horse Talismans, Godspeed Talismans, Golden Light Talismans, Child Talismans, One General Talismans, Ten Generals Talismans, Nine Palace Evil Protection Talismans, Eight Trigrams Protection Talismans, Alliance Talismans, Dugong Talismans, and so on. He painted five of each type of talisman.
Then, he painted more than ten types of thunder talismans, five of each kind.
After he finished painting, Black Pot looked thinner and listless.
Chen Shi affixed these talismans to his clothes with great care. After some thought, he took out all the incense and candles at home, leaving only enough for two days, and lit the rest for the Three Ghost Kings.
There’s a saying: last-minute sharpening of a weapon may not be speedy but is essential.
"Having consumed so much incense, I hope they can become a bit stronger," Chen Shi thought to himself.
He did not invoke the Three Ghost Kings when he fought with Fu Leisheng. Otherwise, with the Three Ghost Kings as the Divine Embryo, their combat power would have surged, making the fight much less easy for Fu Leisheng.
Having received so much incense from Chen Shi, the Three Ghost Kings became apprehensive upon seeing the abundance and exclaimed, "It feels like the last meal before execution! This is a dead man’s last meal! It seems Chen Jailer is set on committing a major act! I can’t handle this; I’d rather go back and enjoy a more enduring meal!"
Aware that trouble loomed, they attempted to escape from Chen Shi’s small temple but found it impossible to flee. Despondent, they murmured, "One misstep leads to eternal regret. I shouldn’t have been tempted by this handful of incense... I was a fool, truly..."
Throughout the night, the incense burned continuously, and the Three Ghost Kings grew more agitated.
The next morning, Chen Shi rose early, paid his respects to his godmother atop the yellow earth mound, made offerings to Scholar, and headed straight to the True King’s Tomb.
Arriving at the outskirts of the True King’s Tomb, Chen Shi steeled himself. Without taking out the West King Jade Seal, he entered the Ghost God Domain and made his way directly to the stele forest in front of the tomb.
The world around him transformed abruptly, and stone figures awakened but remained motionless, watching as the esteemed envoy hurriedly ran to the front of the stele forest, reading the Stele inscribed with the Tianpeng Demon Suppression Technique at breakneck speed.
The beasts guarding the tomb sat in their place with an impressive aura, then watched as the esteemed envoy dashed away at full speed, disappearing like a puff of smoke.
"The temperamental envoy always comes and goes in a rush," yawned a Tian Lu, "He wakes us up but doesn’t stay to teach us anything before leaving."
"Perhaps the envoy is too busy with other matters," guessed a Ba Xia.
They turned back to stone and resumed their slumber.
Chen Shi fled the True King’s Tomb and returned to the yellow earth mound. His heart was still racing, and he felt lightheaded with excitement. "I’ve got it! The Tianpeng Demon Suppression Technique is finally mine, and I emerged unscathed as if it were an uninhabited land!"
The Tianpeng Demon Suppression Technique was the countermeasure he came up with after seeing Yan Fang’s twelve flying skulls and their nefarious Skill.
The Tianpeng represents the celestial marshal Tian Peng, the Supreme Deity of the North Pole, corresponding to the Yaoguang Star, also known as the Breaker Star, within the Big Dipper.
This Cultivation Technique was related to the Three Light Righteous Qi Technique that Chen Shi practiced; the Beidou Seven Refinements and the Yaoguang Refinements within it could correspond to the Tianpeng Demon Suppression Technique.
Underneath the crooked-neck willow tree, Chen Shi studied this technique closely and found it to be quite intricate, more so than the Three Light Righteous Qi Technique, and also a Skill involving spells. It was difficult to get a handle on and not as easy to learn as the Three Light Righteous Qi Technique.
